This song is about what the title says it's about. The dark necessities of life. You will get banged up. You will get scraped up. You will fall down. But you have to keep going. All of those painful parts are needed to learn about life.

This song, for a reason I haven't discovered yet, always moves me to tears. I'm going to tell you my feelings: landscaper, passion for freedom, youth, doing what you love no matter the place or time, doing what you one feels as one feels it, lonely lost nights but with friends, without fear of the future....I don't know what else. All of that is an incomparable musical combo. A dart in the heart.

It's also the video, I've noticed they're in that room, they never leave it, while these young girls are outside doing the things they used to do back in the 2000s in all their crazy songs. It's like they accept they're not young anymore, but they don't care that much and are happy to see younger generations being as crazy as them... but even when they're old they stll have those dark necessities to be nuts from time to time you know

Well, there is a simple reason for your emotions: strong bass lines with a soft voice and a saussy drumming mingled and mixed with a guy that constantly tells you that: “dark necessities are part of my DESIRE.” We all have some necessities that are repressed and called dirty or wrong or dark just because dont fit in our social commonwealth. When the song says that dark necessities are part of our desires as human beings, you, as a human being, relate. You remember, without even realizing, that you have those dark necessities too like everybody and some of those necessities are supressed or even leading to trauma or some shit. Dark necessities are not BAD necessities, in general. They are desires that we cant afford because people dont let us and they also dont let their own desires to come out.

I hadn't heard this song until about a week ago. I've been following your channel and Twitch streams for a few months, so it was cool to see this reaction. It was pretty close to my own.
I was just listening to a random Spotify mix at work and this song started playing. I could tell pretty quickly that it was Red Hot Chili Peppers, and this goddamn bassline hooked me immediately. It was just so groovy and funky. Until it got to the chorus that caught me completely off guard. Found myself struggling to hold back tears, and I didn't even understand why. But music does that to me sometimes. It was so disarming at first, and it just pulls you into that groove. And then the "dark necessities" was kind of a stab to the heart out of nowhere.
Anyway, I love this song and I'm glad you checked it out.

Hey! Since you're encouraging me I'll share. I've been a super private person in the past, but that's kind of over.
I escaped a fairly violent SA when I was 7 (1974). F'ed me up pretty good. I never told anyone. I had PTSD (PTSD wasn't a thing yet), anxiety, hyper-vigilance, rage at age 7 or 8. I still fit in pretty good until Middle school, but 8th grade my friend group exiled me. When the Band Geeks kick you out; yeah it sucked.
Anyways, music has always been my thing. My family was super BA no doubt; but there was only so much they could do. They set me up to be a responsible adult, which I think is a parent's primary responsibility.
Anyway I left a house on a hill to join the Army at 19. I met so many people that weren't like me; and they were so cool. Very accepting people; who had also been though a lot.
There music was way cooler than mine.
I've been listening to the whole RHCP catalog since then. They've been through a lot and it shows. Flea and Anthony are freaks of a feather.
Hidden gem from way back that fits with spring weather (here anyway); "Behind the Sun" - it's an introduction to the greatest pair of pants in the world (outside of maybe Ragnar's Hairpants).
Your Mother will think I'm crazy. I don't think there's anything too bad in there though.

RHCP opened my eyes not only to insane music that is just so vast, but so much about life as humans and their experiences. Safe to say, they are my hero's and have been since I was about 13-14 years old and I'm now 34. This band has evoked every single emotion for me that a human could feel and that's how I know I love them so much. Their catalog is HUGE, they've been doing this since '83. My recommendation for your next RHCP song (if you haven't already, sorry I'm new to the channel!) is a song called "Soul To Squeeze". A classic fan favorite that hits you right in the feels with the lyrics, melody and instrumentation. Check it out!

Watch them in an interview. Shocking. They just love to have fun. Well spoken men. Very articulate. Very down to earth and ver kind. You would never know how well off they are. There’s no money flashing or all the fancy cars in their videos etc. etc. but I was shocked when I was looking at their album sales how many songs and the money they’ve made. All of those gentlemen are very very well off. Yet… They don’t put any significant thoughts towards income. They do care about the music. Believe it or not that wild bass player that you see? He does not do drugs and never has. He almost threw the lead singer Anthony out of the group for doing drugs many years ago. The bass players name is flea. It’s funny because he drinks green tea and herbs and lots of water etc. etc. it’s funny I watched him in a video. So if you get a chance watch them in an interview especially an interview in the last two or three years. Wonderful guys

Great reaction. That was epic! This is the first rime ive really sat and properly concentrated on thos song. Love it. Gives ne vibes similar to probably my favourite song of all time. Which I would like, and think you should react to. Its an all time classic loved by eeeeveryone. I have never met anyone who doesn't like this song. It is, ' Under the bridge'. By the chilli peppers. 1995 I think. Affected me all my life. In good ways.
P.s I am doing a little binge of your reactions right now. And now youre doing another all time favourite of mine. Mr Brightside 😂😁😎✌️

Flea never disappoints, no matter what Chili Pepper era you're listening too.

New viewer from Brazil here ;D
Don't know if you know, but you should really get to know "Look Around" from RHCP.
Some of the best bass lines ever.
Also "The Getaway" from the same album of Dark Necessities is a wonderful track

Biss you are the best Reactor on the tube, an expert at cheering people up - and great taste in music.
Regarding your impact? Well - for one - I am a songwriter and have begun a whole new set of songs once you introduced me to BabyMetal, the 2017 Fox Festival 'Syncopation' was life changing - have you reacted to it? - Anyway; if the songs work out you will have influenced them deeply. Thank You. and Hap B day coming up!

Oh the Chilli's are vibey alright 😊 sooo many great songs over the years. Flea played a fair bit with a band called Jane's Addiction as well. Their video for "Jane Says" is one of my all time favorites. Such a great era for music.

I dunno, any Tupper Ware Remix Party (TWRP) song has me thinking that's peak bass player performance.

I agree with your feeling on this song. Red Hot Chili Peppers excel at capturing such a unique feeling. “Encore” from this album always gets me too.

RHCP make awesome music. 20 years ago I made a trip to the USA. Cruising some miles on historic Route 66 in Arizona heading to L.A. and listening to Californication. I get chills just thinking about that time… Keep them comming, Biss 👍

Great song but It's missing a bit of that John Frusciante guitar sound. And I get teary eyed every time the choir kicks in on Under the Bridge so don't worry about it. 🥲

I think you said once youre in germany? they perform live june 26 in mannheim germnay, or maybe you said austria? jul 14 there...i highly recommend you go...saw them live last year it was by far the best concert ive been to in my life...their studio stuff is great but live is another world....the syngery between chad on the drums, john on the guitar and flea on the bass is unreal and they do long solos every song that youll never hear in the studio or in other live shows, theyre different each time
