- I show how I changed the INC incomplete codes on my I/M readiness OBD2 scanner to OK and READY within 15 minutes of driving through specific drive cycles of 5 minutes at 55 mph, then coasting down (no brakes or gear changes) to around 20-30 mph, and then accelerating back up to 55 mph so I could pass smog in California. Note that the Evap System Monitor can still read as INC and you will still pass smog in California - assuming all other monitors read OK. If you need the Evap monitor to read as OK, then you need to fill up the tank to above 3/4 full.
Thank you for this! After replacing parts on my 2008 Mercedes and clearing codes, we drove it and took to get it inspected. Failed because the Secondary Air System and Evap System Monitor were INC. After driving and restarting car the 50+ miles the Secondary was OK but was having issue with evap monitor still reading INC....we drove and drove, then seen your video and putting the gas in got it set! I would have been driving forever trying to get it to read, lol. (Texas here and need Evap reading ok to pass)
In Texas you are allowed to have any one monitor incomplete and still pass. Ask them again.
I just want to say this method worked for me! I was getting frustrated because I couldn’t get it to read OK using every method in the book. Thank you so much
My fuel sensor monitor would not cycle, and this was the method that turned it from red to green. Thank you for posting the video.
@@mwil01 that's exactly what I had,and the inspection station and my mechanic both said,go to dealership, so instead I disconnected battery for about twenty minutes, then took the car on parkway with the scanner tool connected and the beeping changed and they all set to ready, mind you, I didn't have an engine light, just failed inspection because the fuel monitor wasn't ready, I went straight to inspection station, of course disconnected my scanner and hid the wires and I passed, probably saved hundreds on going to dealership, a scan tool for sixty dollars will pay for itself
For my f150 it seems the trick was in the coasting down from 55mph. Had to brake a few times but coasting down after holding 55 for a few miles cleared the incomplete sensors.
You would think just driving the truck would solve the issue, but being mindful of the 55 and the deceleration really helped.

It works. I have seen so many videos that talk about putting on your defroster, your air conditioner sticking your finger outside the window ha ha ha but this really works. Just get to the highway go up 55 miles an hour for three minutes pull off the side and slowly coast down to 20 miles an hour and then go back up to 55 miles an hour for five minutes just like he says and then let the coast let the car coast down to 20 miles an hour, and then stop checking codes and all of mine went away except for the eve app but you can always have one monitor on to pass a smog

The fact that you/we have to do this "Wonderland" BS to get our cars to pass smog is insane. My car passed immersions, mechanic said nothing to fix, just drive your car till it sets the codes. Been doing that for a month, and it does not work. And I have already driven more to pass smog than I have the ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED THE CAR.
What year make model engine?
@@stevew9563 1998 Ford Escort. I hired someone to drive it till my meter showed all (but one) of the smog checks passed (cost another $100). But no matter what I do or try, the Evaporative system won't pass. I am very close to just selling it rather than spend more money and time on this insanity.
@@kcw1879 - In most states you can have any one monitor not complete and still pass and even in the strictest state CA you can only have the EVAP not ready and pass. It's a super hard one to set for some cars.

My battery died about a week ago and I been driving back and forth to work the last four days and I checked and it said my emissions are still not ready ?
Does your scanner detail which monitor is not ready?

do we leave the scanner plugged in while driving the car?
You can, they update with new data every minute or so.
What if you have a stick shift? How can you drop to 20 mph without a gear change?
You can shift gears - you just cannot brake. If anything it’s easier because you can engine brake on a manual.

Will this work for cars that have check engine light on? And how much time do you have from the drive cycle to get the smog test done??
I believe you automatically fail smog if you have a check engine light.
No this is when you reset the check engine light or the check engine light will come back on.
That sort of driving might be fine in the usa but it's not so easy in the uk.
Coasting on a highway is not legal, you must maintain speed or get a ticket.

Car must cool down at least for 6 or 8 hours between drive cycles. 16 drive cycles must mean 16 days.
Car under “Since DTC’s Cleared” everything is okay but in “Last Drive Cycle” the EVap Oxygen are INC. Do i still ready for smog? Thanks
SMOG only cars about "Since DTC's Cleared" set of monitors. Ignore the other one.

You didn't have to coast,just do a steady 55 or 60, for about 20 minutes and all the sensors will set up, if it doesn't try disconnecting the battery for about 20 minutes and try again
Are you sure the Evap Monitor doesn't have to be ready in California? I asked a smog tech and he said all the monitors have to say ready or ok.
He's lying. Many do not like to run a test with incomplete monitors as they think it effects thier score with that state. If any Inspector ever refuses to do a test file a complaint on them with the state BAR. It's thier job to run a test not prevent a failure. You can find thier technician number on the wall licence that is require to be displayed in the waiting area.

You do not have to. Any monitor you have left should run its test when the conditions are right.

What he is detailing is a generic cycle that will set most cars. But some cars have very specific actions that must be taken. Have not heard fords are all that hard to set. So wont hurt to give it a try and see where you get.
This worked for everything but my oxygen sensor htr which still read INC after doing this process twice
It is recommended to have the fuel level between 25 to 75% for best results. Not full.
I just did this on a completely full fuel tank and it worked great
What if this didn't work for 01 miata?
Having the same issue for my 03 Miata. Egr and Evap has been a headache to get ready
Except for Dodge... Over 150 freeway miles and 25 city on a Caliber and still 02 not ready but cat was ready...

What state are you in? In CA fuel does not need to be ready in order to pass.

never plug a scan tool in while ignition is on, some scan tools will fry your ecm
@@thedong5383 every scanner or obd2 tool in general I've ever had says to be sure the ignition is off while connecting and disconnecting. it may not be a real issue with most, but I know some of the real cheap ones it definitely can
Drive 150 miles of mixed city n highway.Thats what I did.
All these people say drive the car at 55 miles an hour on the highway and then let it Coast down to 20 miles an hour I haven't found a Street in Long Island I could do this on without causing traffic for people thinking I'm nuts Northside Street let you do 55 miles an hour and no highway lets you do 20 mph so help me understand how you do this without a Dino
Wake up at 1-2AM and get on the highway; it should be empty enough to pull this off.
Can't idle to 20mph on the highway. Far too dangerous and illegal to be driving that slow.

I was looking at your welding video and I thought let's see what other good videos this guy's uploaded when I saw pre-med in California and just kind of scrolled through them all and thought I need to tell this guy one simple piece of advice my father the great radiologist who established magnetic resonant Imaging to Alabama gave me.
