I've seen both movies multiple times and read the book. At it's root, it's a human tragedy depicting how a good man gets turned into a cold-hearted monster who no one cares about or wants to be around.
I've always had the need to fill silence so i overshare, compromise myself and my personal dignity for the fleeting approval of people who don't care if i live or die. The ability to be silent and not engage in empty talk is something I've always admired greatly
