Exactly. This video was a typical deconstructionist analysis with a neomarxist dialectic. It took a beautiful multifaceted coming of age story and transmuted/ simplified it to a story completely about power for the sake of power and somehow that being unique to men and the patriarchy. Your comment was well put.
Two observations if I may? 1. Glad that you picked up on that the women are treated as non existent and absent. One dimensional at best. Don Corleone’s wife barely has any screen time, Kay a passive girlfriend and his sister a nagging abused wife. He may have cared for Kay once but after the death of his first wife, his motivation is to to start a family and continue the Corleone bloodline. 2. The attempt on Michaels father, the death of Apollonia and Sunny’s death turned Michael from an outsider to an eventual leader
@@passiveaggressive6175 It’s not that they’re treated as non existent it’s simply showing the roles, dynamics & hierarchy. Don’t forget there are kicks involved, someone has to raise & look after them while the men are handling business. It’s a traditional dynamic of men lead, women follow. In this life, the women have no opinions to offer on the mens lives outside of the home for a reason, therefore, they’re not relevant in that regards, however, when it comes to the family & home the women have jurisdiction over what happens while the men are away. We don’t see too much on family dynamics outside of the Corleone family, most of the movie focuses on the other family which is the life that they’re in. What we see is clear roles being defined
All the dislikes are from the Barzini family, Tartaglia family, Moe Greene, Solozzo, Hyman Roth, Joey Zassa , Don Altobello.,Don Luccesse Captain McCluskey, Rossato Brothers,Don Claricuzzio, Don Santadio, Archbishop Gilday, Don Ciccio, Johnny Ola, Tessio , Paul , Senator Geary, Don Fanucci, Carlo, Fredo Corleone, Cuneo family and of course the headless horse… !!
These movies show how a real men should be. These Movie shows pure masculinity. Great Video, keep going. Godfather 1 and 2 are at the time my favourite
Brandon's mannerisms of don corleone are very, masculine, powerful, and made his presence being felt even when he wasn't on camera. he was just amazing.
But Vitos brother more then likey wouldnt have set him up either hell Vitos older brother died avenging his father and think his older brother would have read through the lines about vito being hard on negotiations and something in it for him and would have killed the men asking him to set up Vito
100 percent. things like this and godfather attitude is important for finding improvement opportunities in self and improving from within. Have a positive attitude and keep improving 1% everyday:)
Odd there is no mention at all of mama corleone and michael and vitos subservience to her. She was important and was not pushed aside but put on a pedestal and revered. Very low hanging fruit, bromides about patriarchy ,masculinity, and a reductionist critique of a beautiful story, to be portrayed about men's quest for power. That's not to say there wasn't misogyny in the book/ movies but Godfather is a deeper story than that.
"Power and Masculinity" - With our new "SJWs" I am so afraid of what they will do with the Godfather once Hollywood decided to remake it because of lack of new original ideas.
Feminists and liberals: "Actually, we should tell the stories of Kay and Connie. And we should call it Godmother, because the most important character is Mama Corleone, who holds the family together. That will be interesting. " Me: yeah, right. Interesting to the 2% feminazis (who BTW never watch movies because they are" Sooo low brow").
Talia Shire described her character (Connie) as "a boring, whiny man" in the shadow of omnipotent people. I sincerely feel sorry for the women in this film, they are terribly abused and have no voice.
Lovely analysis. On my first viewing of the godfather I was completely sucked into the performances failing to notice many layers. But on the subsequent viewings, I was quite disturbed by the treatment of women in the film. Sonny cheats on his wife but she can't say anything. Sonny's sister too was abused by her husband and cheated on. But sonny was agitated by his sisters condition, showing the hypocrisy of these so called dignified characters. Women are objects in this world, a mere property to posses, as Michael grows more cold in the second film, he treats his wife similarly.
You were disturbed because their culture is very different to your American culture. This is how women are treated in traditional european and asian families
The only men Don Vito corrected were his sons and men in his debt. Michael never had any power, as he always needed to be physically reinforced by other men in the room, whereas Sonny was his own wrecking crew, to his eventual detriment.
After all these years people, especially men, are still being seduced by the so-called "power play" of these Godfather characters. Actually patterning themselves on these fictional characters thinking it somehow enhances their masculinity. If this is your idea of power and masculinity, God help you. It is written: "He who walks with wise men shall be wise. But a companion of "fools" shall be destroyed." The Godfather saga has a purpose. It is a testament of what not to do. Look to the end of the story and see what happens to men like these. Godfather 3 is the final judgement upon their transgressions and their children are not exempt. This is nothing to flirt with or idolize. I'm not going to judge characters in a film. But in my opinion a real man is one with moral integrity and righteousness and passes these traits down to his children. The life reflected in these characters is a cursed life that is passed on from generation to generation. If they truly loved their families they would repent and seek forgiveness and deliverance from their bloodstained roots. Because again it is written: "You reap what you sew.". This is an inescapable principle of life. Video after video men are so captivated you might think these are real people the way they justify, analyze, idolize and yes, glamorize the underbelly of these characters. Granted Frances Coppola gave the world deep insight into a dark segment of the Italian heritage. It was very revealing and beautifully depicted. But one should not be so captivated as to lose themselves and overlook the moral of the story, which is death and destruction. Nothing can defy God's judgement so choose wisely who you pattern yourselves after.
You are confusing social and political power with masculinity...there will always be powerful characters...men's private identity is largely a separate item
But the mob is not average masculinity. Honor is not about killing and make pressure on people. Honor is respect for wife and mothers, for intelligence of others,
I watched this back in high school for my English class. It was an offer I could not refuse.
That was a Sicilian message.
@@inspectortanziit means that his grades sleeps with the fishes if he didn’t watch the movie.
. . . Nice 😂👍
Power doesn't come to those who seek it. Reject power, and seek responsibility then you are more powerful than power. Most importantly free.
Maquiavelo ?
No joke u fo real about that statement
Bravo👍💞

I never noticed how Michael really was treated like a woman before getting involved with the family's business.
Fantastic analysis.
Thank you for your comment. Please like and subscribe - I will be uploading weekly videos
His own family forced his hand. Treated him like a naive child when he was really the greatest threat.

Not a ‘Woman’ per se, but a Prince!!!!!

The greatest mafia film ever made and will never be surpassed
Great summary, one more thing Vito says women and children may be careless, but men can not be careless.
Female here: "Men CAN'T AFFORD to be careless. THAT'S WHERE a man fucks up."
Pacino was so bloody brilliant here. Hell, he's always been one fine actor through and through. One of the greatest talents of his generation.
You should continue. Don't give up your doing great I need more videos on godfather 2.
Reading and watching the godfather had a great impact on developing my personality. Great characters

Brilliant video and a great in-depth analysis 👏
They indeed are much alike. But I think Vito would never go as far as killing his own brother.

Perhaps, but we'll never know for certain considering that Paolo was killed when he was just a kid.
Fabulous job. Subscribing. Keep up the great work.

LA MÚSICA está Primero y el segundo la película y el tercer el director, actores, escritores ETC ETC.
Acting like the Godfather is easier to do when you are The Don. The rest of us in the maze can take things on board but that's about it.
you can read the novel to learn how he became a don ;)

I think sometimes people forget the Corleones are works of fiction. Might as well be making videos about Batman and his rise to power in Gotham City.

You’re giving a godfather summary, not any explanation or descriptions of masculinity or power
Horrible accent
Vito compares Jimmy Fontane to a girl because he was crying. Toxic much???
