  • So here we go on to the next system. This one is for decent sound, on a budget, done differently than normal.
    I started off with a Belva deck from Sonic Electronix that was less than $40.
    Front and rear speakers are basic Dual 6.5” ones that were $25 a pair on Amazon.
    The woofers are from Parts Express,
    Part #299-609. They are right at $8 each, are 4 ohm, are midbass drivers, and are mounted in the car in an infinite baffle configuration. They are wired to a single 2 ohm load.
    The amp for mids and highs is one that I’ve had for a while. It is a 4 channel marine Kicker amp.
    The amp for the woofers is a Down For Sound Shop JP8 that I have also had for a while.
    Not counting the amps, it cost $175 for everything, including the board the woofers are mounted to. I already had all of the wiring and hardware to mount the amps.
    This setup is surprisingly clean sounding. It won’t win any awards, the imaging is not the greatest, and could really use a 1/3 octave EQ to flatten things out, but for how much is invested, it plays clean, it plays loud, and surprisingly with authority. Kick drums can be felt in your chest, the low notes start to slowly drop off below 50 hz, and then quickly drop at 30 hz with useable output down to 25 hz!!
    Would it have been louder with a single 12” sub in a good box? Most definitely, but it would not be unique.

      I was very surprised at how clean the sound was. This was my second attempt at an IB setup, the first was many years ago with two Kicker free air subwoofers. And yes, I am a big fan of PartsExpress!!! From speaker components to miscellaneous electronic parts and components to electrical supplies they have it all! Sometimes I just browse through their clearance section. Thanks for the subscription! I’m currently working on more videos.

      @@91CavGT5 definitely check out the GRS subwoofers. They have a 12” that’s only 25 bucks. Healthy amount of xmax and a lower Fs. My glovebox subwoofer is the 10” version.

    Im going to build a 15" custom sub for IB in my mazda 3 hatchback , its a beefy sub the magnet is 78lb and takes a 4" coil with a 80mm wind hight and a 10" nomex spider pack capable of 4" Peak to Peak of excursion! And rated at 4k rms im existed to see how much air this thing will move because ive heard that IB is really windy so we will see

      Wow! Keep in mind the weight of that sub so make sure the baffle is braced! Also keep in mind that with an IB setup, typically the power capability of the subwoofer is cut in half. Sounds like a great setup though!!

    This video popped up in my feed. IN 2024 I am still shocked at the number of creators who have a colossal misunderstanding of "infinite."
    When you close the trunk.............wait for it...........just 1 minute longer.............here it is..............5,4,3,2,1................The trunk becomes an enclosure and THEREFORE NO LONGER ANYTHING AT ALL REPRESENTING INFINITE BAFFLE. What makes the video hilarious with a capital "F" is the fact that you are worried about "sealing" the infinite baffle... Let's Go Brandon!

      @@benburnett8109 while technically you are correct, this setup has been called an infinite baffle for decades. So it isn’t just me calling it that, the industry as a whole calls it infinite baffle. Separating the front and back wave is incredibly important to prevent cancellation of waves just like with any box design.
      Technically speaking, when the trunk is open it is an infinite baffle, as long as the windows or door are open as well. When either the doors, windows, or trunk are closed, it turns the enclosure more into a really large sealed enclosure. But this confuses a lot of the novices in the industry, so it is just referred to as infinite baffle for labeling purposes.
      And Let’s go Brandon!!!! 👍

      You will never get 12s in the trunk unless you cut the floor.of.the trunk down

    Why do people call "trunk walls" infinite baffles? it's only an infinite baffle when your trunk is open. The trunk becomes an enclosure when closed and changes the order.

    • @91CavGT5
      @91CavGT5  7 месяцев назад

      It has always been known as this. If everyone thought like you are saying then a sealed box in the trunk would be called a 4th order and a ported box would be called a 6th order.
      In a home, an infinite baffle setup could be considered a sealed box because the room is the enclosure. But that is not how it is referred to. If the subwoofer(s) are mounted but there are no other walls that have been assembled, then it is an infinite baffle setup regardless of the physical location of the subwoofer.

    • @JonathanDillonfds-fx
      @JonathanDillonfds-fx 7 месяцев назад

      @@91CavGT5 In my interpretation of "infinite" baffle, there is no wall to reflect the back wave to the front wave in addition to the front and back wave not sharing the same space. I'd quicker refer to the room config as "open baffle" unless the backwave of the said speaker exits outside of the room the speakers are placed.

    • @91CavGT5
      @91CavGT5  7 месяцев назад

      @@JonathanDillonfds-fx in order to have a properly built infinite baffle subwoofer setup, the front and the back of the woofer must be separated with no possibility of the waves meeting which would cause major cancellations. One of the two sides also must fire into the listening area, which is enclosed(not necessarily sealed) and acts as an enclosure to some extent. Infinite baffle subwoofers typically require such a large enclosure that it is not feasible in most cases, so a well designed infinite baffle setup provides good output with limited low end extension due to mechanical limitations of the suspension on the subwoofer.
      If you do a quick online search for infinite baffle subwoofer setup, you will see that this is in fact a common way to put a subwoofer in a car without using trunk space for an enclosure. And it is referred to as infinite baffle.

    • @swabby913

      Infinite baffle is technically determined by a multiple of vas which varies by driver.

      I ran across this channel today.....Car Audio Enthusiast ...... If you want to hear his explanation go check it out....
      @91cav - I'm not trying to kick your channel whatsoever brother! As an ole' school guy, I like this setup! Question - is there any sound difference when you drop the seat down?? I started working on my 2000 Accord sedan. Single 15 is in its correct sealed enclosure but just pushed up (from inside the trunk) where the backseat was.... But I'm having the issue of sound cancelation from the trunk space v\s cabin space... Closed trunk good.... Open trunk awesome... After seeing your video I think I'm going with a setup like this but maybe with 8s... Because I think the Cobalt Orion 3200.1D has already killed the 1000rms 15" Pyle and it hasn't been 48 hours yet lol....
