As as an only car in the family for her it was super reliable and cheap to operate. These cars are great if you do basic maintenance.

What a nice, cared for example of a second gen Prism! Looks like a baby Camry. You're as flabbergasted as I am at the fact that 1993 was 31 YEARS AGO! It's sad how cars, once their value degrades to a certain point, a cracked tail light could be enough to list a car as "total loss/Salvage." It's unbelievable.

The Geo/Chevrolet Prizm is a Toyota Corolla.
    Geo Prizm from 1990-1997,
    Chevrolet Prizm from 1998-2002.
There were a total of generations of the Prizm,
    1990-1992, 1st gen,
    1993-1996, 2nd gen,
    1997-2002, 3rd gen.
    $1894.50 isn't bad, either.
Polynesian Green Pearl this color is called, 1993-1995.
Later replaced by Woodland Green Pearl for 1996.

1.6l 3 speed, it appears. The 1.8 4 speed was known to last longer. A buddy of mine had a 3 speed one. The transmission blew at 100k miles. I've heard it's pretty common with those transmissions. It's still a cool little car, especially for the price.

I cannot find one in great shape with low miles. Not for under $3500.00 also. One day I will own another one. Rich or poor. I want another one. Love your channel. 54 yr old , this generation of cars you are picking up nobody wants them. I think they are awesome and take me back too. Btw. My first car was a 1988 1/2 Ford Escort GT. Dad put a down payment of $1100. And the $232 monthly payment was on me. He wouldn’t let me get an 88 mustang gt. Only an LX 4 cylinder. So I chose the 5 speed Escort. What a piece. 🤬. Any way keep em coming. Really enjoying watching you live your dream. Thank you again. J . In. S Fla.

Randy, back in 1985, I came very close to buying a new Geo Prism which was a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. It was a US- made Corolla.
Instead, I bought a 1985-1/2 Ford Escort 2-door coupe from the dealer. It was a mid year redesign of the Escort. My wife drove it most of the time because it was considerably better than her 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

Oh my! I think letting Nick choose the car after test drives would actually be the best idea! The Corolla/Prizm seems in very good shape. I had 3 or 4 of those. They're actually quite unreliable. Engines and trans are great but the rest of the car is super fragile and parts costed a fortune back then. I guess it did not change much with rarity going on. They were especially prompt to catch fire and anything close to the wheels had the lifespan of an ice cream cone in a furnace. I still wish i could have the Metros and make a decent one with all you have. In fact i really like most of your purchases :)

My first vehicle was a 1990 Chrysler Plymouth Grand Voyager, my parents gave it to me, they gave me a choice between either that minivan or the 1986 Nissan 4x4 pickup with a 5-speed that I learned to drive manual on when I was 14. I didn't go with the pickup for one reason and one reason only and that was that it didn't run, whereas the minivan did run. After that, my dad gave his 1993 Ford Escort station wagon and then I bought my first car in 2003 being a 1997 Nissan Sentra GXE that I had for 8.5 years. Every single vehicle that I have ever bought has been Japanese brands, even when I look at other country vehicles, I always end up buying Japanese. I don't have anything against other country brands.

I bought a 93 Prizm new, in a higher trim level, LXi, I think Mine had 1.8 liters instead of 1.6, and had alloy wheels. I punctured one of those 175/65R14 tires when the car was a few months old, and that size was pretty hard to get at the time. It was the first new car I bought after a divorce in 1992 that became final in early 1993. I remember the salesman's name was John Crapper. I drove the car I think 80K miles in less than 2 years, and sold it for about $4K less than I paid, with it still looking like new. Pretty nice driving a new car for only $0.05/mile depreciation expense. I did similar quick new-to-80K flips on a 1994 Altima (5 speed and viscous limited slip) for $0.10/mile, a 1997 A4 Quattro V6 for $0.15/mile, and 2001 Prius for under $0.15/mile. Drive its best, new miles, at a lower cost per mile than almost anyone else with a new car, by piling on easy miles and then selling it looking and running like new. Plus, a lot of the miles were for business trips where I was reimbursed the standard IRS rate per mile by my employers, far exceeding the cost of gas, oil changes, tires, and depreciation. Basically driving new cars for free.
The 93 Prizm handled and cornered much better than you'd expect. With the tires inflated to the max sidewall number, it took off ramps at surprisingly high speeds. Very good mpg for the 1990s, usually around 36mpg, though if you drove 55mph you could get up a little over 40mpg.

That car reminds me of my first car I got when I turned 16 in 1992....a good ole plymouth sundance. And some kids today are the way they were when we were kiddos. The ones that were raised right. That is what we're missing a lot nowadays...a stable household. Ok off of my soapbox I go lol.

A friend had a GEO and every time he hit the gas hard there was a huge bang that that shaked the body of the car

I don't think it is a midlife crisis you are going through, it's just the good ole days that you remember being simpler and better, yes people were nicer and not as stressful. I am 61 yo and wish things could be the way they were but our elders have said the same thing in the past. Keep up the videos Randy, always enjoy seeing what you are doing and what you are bringing to the channel. Would enjoy seeing a video of Nick picking out a car from a line up, would be interesting to see which one he would pick.

Back in the 70,s the St. Paul Dispatch_Pioneer Press had cars in the thrifty adds for 50 dollars then raised to 75. I bought and drove them till they would not run all needed new engines or just oil leaks fixed

Had one just like it, same color, year, 5spd...but with 350k miles and everything worked and got amazing MPGs, didn't even burn oil

That one would have been a great candidate for a road trip. You and Mike could have flown out and driven it back. But Mike would have had to try and buy a $200 one as well. 👍

That is the Holy Grail of low mileage, dependable commuter cars. The Geo branded Toyota Corrolla! I would love to have that. The deals are never around when you need one. You can't find a car like that today, even for $2500 in The Hudson Valley of NY. All of them are 150k or way higher.
