We have found that reducing everything by 1/2 makes a perfect game. (two guns for an arty battery, 2 stands for inf & cav regiments) Large enough to get several brigades on the table and involve 4 to 6 players. Small enough to look impressive on a 4x6 foot table. Also, your figures go twice as far. We even made rulers marked in 1/2 inch segments. We just continue to refer to inches but we're actually measuring half inches without any confusion. Works a treat!
I love the models, I *love* the models. But when I realized you would need three starter boxes and a 20-foot board to play the smallest scenario from the ACW box (plus the unending hell of trying to paint Confederates), I lost a lot of steam.
I'm really impressed with the use of coloured plastic as players can genuinely play straight from the box without having to wait an age to use painted figures. This could start a trend
I'm doing exactly what was said at 4:46. This will be my first foray into historical wargames, after playing some fantasy ones. Really looking forward to it.
Exactly. I want to start the hobby and I am really having trouble to find information, minifigures, brands that ship wordlwide, brands that still exist etc. Its just a frickin mess and I am glad i found this small scale product that seems to be supported by the compnay. How was it? Do you still play, are you still in the hobby? :) Thanks in advance
It is thanks to the fact that you went into the 15mm scale that I finally decided to buy your models! I love the fact that I buy 2 boxes and l have 2 armies ready to play. The next army on my list this month is the Prussians. I am very grateful because thanks to you I entered the period of the Napoleonic Wars, which I had been dreaming about for a long time. I am going to advertise your system in my city because it is "epic";) Thanks again for your great job Warlord Games!
Really never thought of that but now thinking on it..we did play in past FOW with gradually painted armies as the delay in painting is a bit to me like ppl learning a language..it leads to that tendency to never be quite ready to take the plunge
@@I_Don_t_want_a_handle oh yes..there has always seemed to be a bit of us and them re soft plastics with most ppl starting with them but then going on to metals or hard plastics in 28mm (and now 15mm and 12mm)
I’m still struggling through my ACW army build and paint. I like the way one can field unpainted armies (red and blue). Attention challenged will possibly take longer to complete a painted army but depending on your paint style each figure of a strip on 10, can take “almost” as long to do as an individual 10mm or 15mm figure!! Bottom line…well done Warlord Games!!!
My starter sets arrived today just in time for the weekend. They're great! Mega pleased with the product... in particular, the new a5 book is stunning! Have fun everyone!
Really enjoyed this video and agree with all that was said. Picked up a "free" sprue of French Cavalry from WI issue and used GW contrast paints (mostly) to paint a couple. Very happy with the result. I don't see me getting into this soon but look forward to other armies coming along later: Austria, Russia in particular.
My buddy Rob and I just invested into the mega bundle that shares the terrain with French, Prussians and English armies. Seeing this is really encouraging as it means we can play day one, then start taking our time to paint them up. Really excited about playing!
@@MarlboroughBlenheim1 not really, some people are just fine not painting minis and just want to play. And that’s completely fine, I personally almost never play unpainted minis but that’s just the standard I keep myself to
Cannot Wait to get our hands on this! Sadly missed out on the preorders but hoping one of the LGS in Ontario will be getting some so we can do some unboxings and batreps! Always wanted to get into Napoleonic's but haven't had the courage till now!
I'm so glad I didn't commit to 28mm scale I just knew I wanted to go corps size engagements so glad this is available I've orders starter sets with 2 extra brigades each and waiting for the guards and highland brigade but will have 19 battalions/regiments for each side
Nice video, great idea re bane of many which is the painting side..and for which of course (fielding unpainted figures) it was traditional to have to take a bit of stick.
I agree it's nice to be able to just play , but painting is part of the fun I love to see two fully painted armies go at each other. I was very impatient my step father got be painting models , really helps you relax and dare i say teaches you patience in general. I hate non painted armies lol 😆 so much of the joy of war gaming is painting 🖼 👌
Had me worried for a minute ! "From Box to Table" has been a regular feature on Yarkshire Gamer for about 10 years, I thought I'd put a video out I'd forgotten I'd recorded 😄
I am looking forward to getting into the epic waterloo battles. I just hope the range is produced in a timely manner. I see imperial Guard and Highlanders coming soon. Hopefully we get the command sets soon with the personalities of the battle. We also need the Prussians. Also looking forward to other epic games for Hail Caesar and Pike and Shotte
Going to sound like a broken record here but warlords missed a trick by the width of the number of figures .....if they had put a 5 or 6 man frontage then I'd say others like me would have bought this and happily gamed other rules with other club members but heyhoo. Great video though and the guys seemed to enjoy their day and that's what it's all about.
You could cut the figures strips and the bases in two (or put them on other bases), giving you a lot more flexibility in how you organise your armies. At least, that is what I plan to do because I want my troops that are in road column formation to have a 5 man frontage (1 base) while the troops that are in attack column have a 10 man frontage (2 bases)
I'm a little confused about what product this is. It says "straight out of the box," does that mean this is a single boxed set? Because the only Waterloo starter sets I'm finding for sale with red and blue figures are individual army sets.
I’m retired. I have a lifetime collection of 1:72 Napoleonic figures. French, British & Prussians. Hundreds of figures. Artillery, Infantry, Calvary. Prussian, British & French commanders figures as well. I also have the La Haye Sainte 1:72 Waterloo set. I’m going to paint & base them over the next couple of months. What rules can I use to play a table top game with them? When basing them I will use Canadian pennies ( no longer legal tender) as individual soldier bases & will then make a penny indent into thin styrofoam larger squares. Should I mount them in 2 figures by 3 figures or 2 figures by 4 figures? Should they be in 3 by 4 groupings? I’m excited about the project. I’ve a friend who’s going to help for the first couple of weeks. Hopefully we will get a game in before he has to head back home.
Hi Kevin, Black Powder is the perfect system for this kind of wargaming! The 'classic' is to have 5 stands of 4 figures each (two-by-two) make up each battalion, but it's really up to your preference, so long as the overall frontage is the same on each battalion!
@@warlordgamesVery helpful. Thank you. I’m getting a BlackPowder Epic… package with miniature commanders, casualty markers & rules I believe for the 100 day campaign. The scale of the package I believe is 15mm for the command figures. Not a problem as all my fighters are 1:72. Rules of play to best use when measuring distances of movement & fire would be 15mm rules rather than 28mm rules?

We just went to tabletop pax. They had this cool jousting game I want to look into also. But the revolution war looks fun. Line infantry and all. I want to be Prussia I think or maybe 🇷🇺
So I'm confused, is this actually a smaller-scaled black powder, or "normal" black powder but with 15mm (13.5mm?) figures instead of 28mm? What I mean is, does it require the same gigantic tables and such that the non-Epic game has, or is this designed for smaller tables? Is it functionally the same game or are there tweaks for the smaller scale? Table size/space required has been the biggest factor for me getting into Black Powder, without having to do some modifications and stuff myself.
