I took the opportunity of being at an intimate show to test out the GoPro in gig conditions... Unfortunately I didn't know that protune isn't great in low light so using this setting was a bad idea as it resulted in a lot of noise.
This is due to the in-camera noise reduction being minimal in Protune mode to give the operator greater freedom in the edit, and coupled with the raised blacks of Protune, designed to allow better control when colour grading, it ultimately emphasises the grainy low light areas of the picture - which at a gig are EVERYWHERE.
I'd highly advise turning off Protune if filming in low light and the results are a lot more pleasing.
