Dimitar Iliyanov They have something called diffuser which uses same principle to make down force as the ground effect cars aka they are still using ground effect. Lotus wasn't first team to use ground effect btw. It was Williams who developed it first.

The famous scene from the movie "Grand Prix". By the way, the banking was not used for the Italian GP in 1966. The last time an F1 race was held on the combination of the road circuit and the oval was in 1961.

Circuits of the past they ran the oval in a practice session for the 1963 GP. There was a cut tire incident during the session so they decided not to run the oval for the race.

The video is from the 1966 movie "Grand Prix". The footage, while not in an actual race, is real. They mounted 1966 vintage movie cameras on actual cars (F3 I believe) as well as on GT camera cars. They hired actual race car drivers such as Phil Hill to drive. James Garner, one of the stars of the film, did a lot of his own driving. Do a search on RUclips for "making of Grand Prix", there are a few videos that show behind the scenes images of the making of the movie.

***** The Monza track is the same length and almost the same banking as the NASCAR track at Talladega...2.6 miles and 32 degrees of banking. It's a different configuration (Monza is a true oval whereas Talladega is a tri-oval), but what you're experiencing here is exactly what Cup drivers would experience at Dega without restrictor plates. The NASCAR Monza 500 would definitely be a plate race if it existed!!!!!

Back in 1957 they tried to hold a race on the Monza oval between Indy Cars, F1 cars and sports cars.
In typical F1 form, the F1 drivers backed out claiming it was suicide. The Sports car guys from the Jaguar team stayed with it and raced the Indy cars.
To be fair, the F1 guys were out of their element and probably spooked by the oval while the Indy car guys were doing business as usual...go fast...turn left.

Basically yes! Although these scenes were from the Movie "Grand Prix". The banking at Monza was last used for F1 cars six years earlier.

There's lots of tricks involved in shooting this; I think the actual cars were running slower (80-90mph) with slower film (12fps with a longer shutter), which by running 24fps will appear as 160-180mph. The longer shutter ensures more motion blur which makes it look "fast". The sound is completely "designed" using old school analog tape manipulations.

This is DEFINITELY taken from the movie "Grand Prix." I do not believe there ever was an "oval only" race. It always combined the road course. The oval was eventually dropped alltogether.

Stand corrected. did not dig into this far enough. Have always loved the long track. I can understand why it "went away," but it was a great track.

This is footage from the 1966 film Grand Prix. Terrific movie, it uses a huge amount of footage from throughout the 1965 season. Get if off Netflix or bittorrent.
