The fluorescent lights appear to get better results. Great experiment.

Yeah most things just grew a little faster under fluorescent due to the heat output. Only a few cases where some plants just didn't like the LEDs.

Interesting was actually thinking of purchasing the VG80 but got me thinking now thanks great video😎👍

They aren't terrible but not as good of results as fluorescent in most cases. I'll definitely continue to use them for most things. I don't mind if stuff grows a little slower under them. I might look for a different brand to put them up against for next season though.

    Interesting results!

Yeah. Was hoping it would work a little bitter but seemed to do fine for most things at least so I'll continue to use them. Wouldn't mind trying some other ones though to see if some might work better.

Raise your LED lights. They're stronger than the florescent bulbs, which is why you're experiencing purpling leaves and leaf curl.

oh yeah I definitely don't have the LED's near as close as the fluorescents. I keep fluorescents just 1 or 2 inches from the tops of the plants and LED's are about 10 inches away. I measured the ppfd at 400-450 with my Apogee meter.

Just a couple of inexpensive lighting hacks; Slip sheets aluminum foil over the lamps, between the fixture and the lamps, to further disperse the light. Surround your shelving setup with a camping thermal blanket, (very thin, light, almost cellophane) with the reflective side facing in, toward the plants.

Good tips! Sometimes I put white foam core boards on the sides of the shelf to bounce light back in.

I can set my mars vg80s very close to the canopy or as far as 18 to 20 inches plus away! Depending on what im growing of course.. The vg80s are awesome lights! Give them another try with more room for height adjustment you will be very surprised! And if your going to use fluorescent lights use t5s those things are full proof!

I'm not sure your exact conditions, but in my experience, plants will hyper-respond like that when moving them from one light source to LEDs with high output on the blue end of the spectrum. One solution is to germinate under the LEDs so that the seedlings create the necessary adaptations from the very beginning. My plants will look very normal in that situation. In any case, hopefully you can find ways to have better luck with the new lights you paid for!

Yeah that's a good idea. I think for the most part they were started under fluorescent and when they got big enough to split into individual cells is when I split them up between the two types of light,

I wonder what would happen if you switched the plants from one light to the other to see how they respond when they experience the different light source.

I did move the statice that hated the VG80s over to fluorescents to hopefully recover. I think it will take some time but they are starting to look better. I actually have everything moved outside now so they are getting some sun.

Im experimenting with leds myself. Been using a phone app to measure the ppfd. I found i have to play with the distance and intensity for 250-350

Yeah I have an Apogee meter and have measured the lights at around 400-450 which may be a little high for some things. I've got the lights about as high as they'll go on the shelf. I suppose I could raise the upper shelf so there's more room. Would be really nice if there was a dimmer on these things so they weren't so bright and you could put them closer to the plants. Maybe some day. :D

Flo lights are great for certain things led are not everything. Mars hydro does not make led diods samsung Sylvania to name just a few do. All mars hydro creates is housing for the breadboards that are vakes with led diodes. They then build around that hell they don't even make the drivers. They just jack up the prices for the same products others sell for a tenth of the cost of the so called name brand companies. I would love to see a samsung Samsung branded grow light led and fixtures i appreciate paying the premium then.
