    Really helpful video! ... but you might want to have a look at the fine print on the CURB website: Q: Why can’t I add a credit card? - A: Our system may reject a card due to an invalid billing ZIP code or security code. Make sure the credit card is up-to-date or contact the issuing bank for more information. *Curb accepts only US-based Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express cards.* ... in essence, this means that the CURB app will miss a key functionality when you are not a US resident. ->|bonus track: good luck when trying to set up an account from outside the US... (iPhone, from Germany) as Gmail addresses will be rejected and "403" errors (access denied) are common...

    Great job Thea! One thought for your future Lyft vs Taxi video. I have found that going from the non-Manhattan boroughs to Manhattan the Lyft is better. Then, from Manhattan to the boroughs the regular taxi can work. You also might address the challenge that Lyft and Uber have been to the Taxis. It is nice to support the Taxis when possible. Thanks...

    Another great video Thea! It would be very interesting if you could also make a video for coming to Manhattan from JFK with a cab, as there is a flat rate (52$) but no tolls and other staff are mentioned in the airport's website, so it's not clear of how much is the actual cost with tax and all, to get to Manhattan.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  3 года назад

      Thanks! I was planning on a similar video eventually. The $52 is the flat fare from JFK to Manhattan. This does not include any tolls, fees, and tips. Depending on your route, you might not hit any tolls. My rough estimate off the top of my head, the fare will probably end up being $65-75 🤔

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 года назад

      Someone on this channel had the same situation. From their experience, the yellow taxi can only fit 4 people. You can have a 5th person if they are 7 years old or younger. For 5 people, you might want to consider Uber or Lyft since they offer larger vehicles. Otherwise you might have to get 2 taxis. But thanks for this question, I didn't even think about large groups when I made this video.

  • @Aidan_Au

    I never rode a cab in NYC or anywhere in the US yet.
    Since ridesharing is so much more convenient and cheaper and you can look back on when you took a ride.
    Though sometimes a cab in NYC would be cheaper than ridesharing if you're going to the airports.
    I guess it's more for an experience.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  3 года назад +1

      It's worth looking into. As long as I'm traveling within Manhattan, a cab is usually cheaper and faster. But outside Manhattan, cabs can be more expensive. Now that they have the Curb app you can also look up your ride history.

    I was just wondering but when you give the taxi driver the cross street do you have to also tell them if it's east or west street or does the direction not matter? Like do you say east 23rd and 7th or just 23rd and 7th? Sorry if thats a dumb question I've just never been to New York or have ever had to take a taxi before.

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  Год назад +1

      Hi there! 👋No need to distinguish east or west for taxi directions. "East" just means it's east of 5th Ave and "West" means west of 5th Ave (this is more for finding a street address easier). If you say "23rd and 7th", they will already know it's "West 23rd" because 7th Ave is west of 5th Ave. Hope this makes sense!

    • @UrbanCaffeine
      @UrbanCaffeine  2 года назад

      It really depends. If you're just going from one place in Manhattan to another place in Manhattan, taxis are fine. It's when you are going to and from remote locations that I would be careful. Airport to Manhattan is fine too in my experience. Most taxi drivers are just regular people trying to make a living. And taxis in NY are highly regulated. As for the subway, you do get days like that but not all the time. New Yorkers learn to tolerate and be cautious. I usually try to get away whether it's getting off the next stop for another train or walking to another part of the platform. Hope this helps!
