I think the whole point of the film is that Jack has always been a violent drunk who hurts people. The hotel doesn't make Jack that way. It chose him because he is that way. Just like Grady said, Jack has always been the caretaker.
Always love your videos. After telling Gabby’s story I now have new respect for you. From one proud cat dad to another, thanks for giving her a loving home.
I understand why King didn't like the movie. He wrote Jack as a sympathetic character with some problems whereas he pretty much started out as an AH right from the beginning in the movie. Also I never saw the point of killing off Hallorann like that after all the trouble to get him there
My can ran away the day before I had to move far out of town. I told all my neighbourghs and gave them food and stuff if she came back. Asked them to call if she came back. Never got a call. I still miss her. Accidents happen. Don't jump to conclusions.
i was suprised with that "Gabi - Night" translation , you know Tagalog , Philippine spoken language - also from that country too - anyways, cool remarks as always on your review
I was never a fan of this movie. I like a slow burn but i found this to be a little convoluted and dull. Love yo though New Bee! Thank you for another awesome review!
I introduced my wife and stepdaughter to this movie 9 years ago after we visited the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO (the inspiration for the novel). Ever since then, whenever we stay at a hotel with long wide hallways, my wife insists on taking a picture with us posing as the twins!
The ghost element wasn't even necessary. Just being isolated and trapped with an abusive alcoholic going off the deep end from cabin fever is terrifying enough!
Great review of a great horror film. I hope you do a review of Mike Flanagan's 2019 sequel, Doctor Sleep, which does an excellent job of combining Kubrick's movie with King's sequel (because Kubrick's The Shining had so many differences from King's books it was great how well Flanagan managed to integrate both the Kubrick and King elements for the movie sequel). While Kubrick's The Shining is more psychological horror, Flanagan's Doctor Sleep is more pure horror film, but done very well in my opinion (especially in his longer director's cut, which is the best version to watch, even at 3 hours).
Thank you for taking Gaby, the black kitty in. I was in the same situation when a neighbour moved out and abandoned their grey tuxedo kitty. It was a girl. She was hurt from the abandonment and never really has been a happy cat ever since.
I love your channel so much I watch it all the time and I go back and watch older episodes all the time I just really wish you would make longer more in-depth behind the scenes videos of movies
I have a "Gabby" too, his name's Pashmina-- shortened to "PAZ" after realizing he's a boy. in CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON they used a strip of black silk on a line for the illusion of Jen flying over roof tops-- which was my inspiration for the name. he doesn't steal swords just my heart... and my balance almost stepping on'm at night! 🐈⬛
Did you know that Jack Nicholson was in the The Monkee's little known (except by fans) movie "Head?" Not only does he have a brief cameo, he wrote it along with the boys in the band and Bob Rafelson. But Nicholson has a blink-and-you'll-miss it cameo. ❤💚
This movie been taken apart in so many ways. Example window could not be where it was when Jack for interview all through walls could not be where they were Indian Burial Ground had something to do with the haunting. Reincarnation of Jack that why he was in picture at end. He always will be the caretaker. On on. I just watch this movie 🍿 because scary and just great movie. Thanks for comments. Like your cat time 🐾🐾🐈⬛
Sigh. They can see things because: Danny has a form of ESP that can allow him to see echoes of things that happened before. Jack is going nuts from isolation, stress and withdrawal. Wendy because she is under VERY heavy stress at the time and is hallucinating (And perhaps tapping into a latent smidge of Danny's abilities). Whether the ghosts are real or not is open to interpretation, at least in my opinion. I could make an argument that the only paranormal thing is Danny and his ability and he is basically an abused kid being forced into isolation with the person that hurt him for long periods of time. His ability is manifesting without his control as visions his parents see. In the book it's a bit more cut and dried - yep, it's ghosts and no ambiguity at all. I prefer the movies ambivalence on that score, although I take nothing away from the book - it's a great novel.
Personally, I found Kubrick's version rather boring. The only thing that made it watchable was the performance of it's main stars. I much prefer the 3 part Miniseries that came out in the 90's, where the screenplay was written by King himself. Although, it had a slightly different ending of sorts. I also liked the sequel, Dr. Sleep, which came out much later. The only issue I have with Dr. Sleep is that it is based upon Kubrick's version.
I had the same experience seeing this in college like what a weaksauce horror movie, then I got older more appreciative of subtext and I went from it's so boring to my favourite movie. There's so much subtext and none of it dominates by design, it's designed to be whatever you want to get out of it except being exploitative, classic kubrick, great flick. PS what if tony told Danny to unlock the door? it's left open ended but Danny's the only one who could open the doooooor.
It's an okay movie. Book was def better. Wish they had at least implemented the boiler plot and the topiary. The topiary scared tf out of me reading the book.
Seriously Tom, stop getting pets. You don’t get paid enough to be able to have that many mouths to feed. You’re gonna be an old man and your kids are gonna start hating taking you around the neighborhood or park in a wheelchair because every time you see an animal you’re gonna ask “can we keep him?” And their response will always be the same but your senile mind and kind heart will always keep you from remembering. “Dad… that’s a homeless guy…” Seriously love you Tom, hope you and your family have a good thanksgiving! 🫡
Guys, is it just me or has anyone also these very Deep Bass Sound whenever thenewbee is Talking in to the mic? I am using a subwoofer btw so maybe one cannot hear that soundbug with headphones or anything. I dont have this Problem with any other video tho

Idk why I've never thought of this, this ties it together so nicely
The part with Stewie Griffin going “Mom! Mom! Mom!” over and over was perfect! 😂 Your videos are so much fun!
Always love your videos. After telling Gabby’s story I now have new respect for you. From one proud cat dad to another, thanks for giving her a loving home.
Awww super happy to meet Gabby! And I think I’m going to rewatch The Shining with my friend this weekend
I love that you let us in to your cat stories in the middle of the review by the way ! :D Great video as always
Nicholson is Nicholsing, but Duvall is incredible
“Because shut up!” I’m stealing that.
I understand why King didn't like the movie. He wrote Jack as a sympathetic character with some problems whereas he pretty much started out as an AH right from the beginning in the movie. Also I never saw the point of killing off Hallorann like that after all the trouble to get him there
Gabby is a beautiful cat. What kind of assholes would just abandon her like that?
My can ran away the day before I had to move far out of town. I told all my neighbourghs and gave them food and stuff if she came back. Asked them to call if she came back. Never got a call. I still miss her. Accidents happen. Don't jump to conclusions.
I had neighbors that did that. They moved out of the house next door to me and a couple of days later I noticed a kitten in the driveway.
Gabby's first family didn't notify anyone though - not the same thing
The scene where you see a dude with a person in a bear costume was the creepiest thing ever.
it's a brief look into the life of a furry, truly harrowing stuff
😆It was totally unbearable.
Clearly the influence for John Candy’s Spaceballs look.
I can't wait for the sequel
I heard its called "The Dulling"
It's set between The Shining and Doctor Sleep.
i was suprised with that "Gabi - Night" translation , you know Tagalog , Philippine spoken language - also from that country too - anyways, cool remarks as always on your review
Just the idea of Jack casually reading Playgirl magazine in the hotel lobby still haunts me to this day. Where did he get it? Was that HIS copy?
An excellent King book, AND a Kubrick classic, both can be true.
I was never a fan of this movie. I like a slow burn but i found this to be a little convoluted and dull. Love yo though New Bee! Thank you for another awesome review!

I completely agree. That part made it a little goofy for me.
Absolute facts
It's pretty much how The Simpsons explained it.
The music completes the vibe

I thought I might be the only one looking for this movie to watch for free
lol 😂 “the shining” great review by the way 🙌🏾🙌🏾

Don't know if its just my headphones but there seems to be reverb or some kinda feedback from the mic.
Love your videos
No it's not just you. There is a problem with the audio.
Yes me also
I just commented about this - good to know my headphones aren’t dying
I love your channel so much I watch it all the time and I go back and watch older episodes all the time I just really wish you would make longer more in-depth behind the scenes videos of movies
Yay, one more review!
I think your mic is dying.
And I think Gaby needs her own shtick, alongside "you need Jesus" cat
thank you for sharing gabby with us. my mom just gave away my dad's cat after he passed, so I've been missing her

Ah a nice 'shining" moment in my day! Always like your reviews, and Gabby is a beautiful cat!
They told the little boy it was a romance movie so he wouldnt be afraid !
Omg, loved this review 🖤🥰
Love Gabby! Black cats are so cute. I call them "Halloween kitties".
Gabby for the win!
How dare they leave Gabbie behind!!! Such a cute baby!
😢 its always sad the death of the noble Halloran or whatever his name.
Gabby is beautiful! I love Cat Time!
Nice cat, she looks happy. And nice review. I think i would get entartained with the food in the hotel.
Woah. Super Mandela effect. Really thought youd done this one already..... great job!!! In my universe the second one was better!!! Thanks!

(Unintentional?) Event Horizon reference? Nice!!! ❤
Gabby is such a cute little fuzzydo. ❤

No water hose attack or slowly moving hedge animals yet somehow better.
Here’s to alcohol ……the cause of and solution to all problems!
Hi Gabby!

Come for the movie review, stay for the cats
Are you the reason I’m getting the Mr. Ballen videos in my feed now? 🤣
Mr. Ballen is everywhere
In the words of the joker
It takes one bad day
What? What? Kubrick stare! 😅😅😅
I’m not sure if it’s my headphones or the audio but is the audio weird for anyone else?
Yeah great film. Can't add more than that
I find Jack creepy and menacing from the very start of the movie. But maybe that's just because he's played by Jack Nicholson. LOL

Doctor Sleep is way better
hi Gabbie
Heck yes 🤘🤘🤘
aw floofy kitteh
I guess King disliked the movie because he couldn't hedge his maze of ideas.

Seriously love you Tom, hope you and your family have a good thanksgiving! 🫡
They chose us
This movie sucked. I said what I said.
I can't watch this unless I know I'll be able to watch it uninterrupted. You can't just stop and finish it later. That's illegal or something.
Gabby is gorgeous! I love meeting your cats!
Gabby has asserted her editorial notes on this episode. 🐱😁
