Damn, it’s nice seeing the Fairy Tail community still going strong. I remember there being a lot of hate during its run and the ending. But now, FT seems to remembered more fondly, which makes me happy. As my first anime and then manga, FT has a special place in my heart.
This is one of the only shows to make me cry or cheer as hard as I did even once let alone multiple times. FairyTail is my faivorite anime and it's great to hear others love it too. And in the last episode when Mavis and Zeref show up with seemingly no memory I thought it was cool, like the curse of contradictions last contradiction even as it was erased.

I understand that there are better anime’s objectively, but Fairy Tail really does is best when it comes to so many attributes when creating a show. - Characters & their backstories - Characters relationships with one another - Character development - Story telling & foreshadowing - epic battles / magic power - overall message of the show, and messages within each arc - comfort, humour AND heartbreak (I’ve seriously never cried more over a show then I have watching FT) Etc. I’m proud to say that this is my favourite anime.

I also read the manga before the anime was released both Avatar and Alvarez war arcs. These 2 arcs specifically I remembered every detail about what will happen. Fairy Tail just captured me. Sad that the final season kinda dropped in quality, because everything until the ending of tartaros arc in my opinion was just perfect.

I accidentally started watching Fairy Tail with episode 185 or so, right in the middle of the Minerva-Erza-Kagura fight. I just wanted to check out what it was, because I'd heard the banger main theme on youtube and then I was just kinda glued to it. I watched it all the way to episode 200 which at the time happened to be the newest episode and the conclusion of the arc. I was honestly afraid that this was the end of the anime so I went back and watched it from the start before realizing that new episodes had come out. But the Eclipse arc just had everything that makes the show great: Friendship, love, a ton of different characters and powers, dragons and of course Lucy. Future Lucy finding peace and reconnecting with her own Natsu in the afterlife had me sobbing. It also resulted in this beautiful NaLu moment where Lucy hugs Natsu from behind, implying she's thanking him for letting her future self rest in peace and preventing that future from ever happening.
I guess it's a good thing that you watched it this year considering the 100 years quest getting the adaptation, besides that, there's to much to many things to say about the series to say in one comment

Ah, Fairy Tail. I wouldn't be who I am without it. Do I have my gripes with it, sure. Nothing's perfect. Do I wish Mashima would let sad moments stay sad (I'm looking at you, Afro Happy and Makarov moment that happens in the final season), sure. But, I can't deny that the series is pure, unadulterated fun.
I agree with you about Zeref! He's one of my favorite anime villain. And about Fairy Tail 2014, i think so. It's the peak season of Fairy Tail man, not even close to the other! Let skip that filler arc, and it's worth 10/10 imo. We got the ending & conclusion of Grand Magic Games arc, we got the best FT arc (Tartaros), and we got great prequel story (FT Zero). My rating based on season: Fairy Tail: 8,8 Fairy Tail (2014): 9,5 (include the filler) Fairy Tail Final Series: 8,4 And about 100 Years Quest. Based on couples recent chapter, i would like to rated it 8,5/10, and potentially reach 9/10 (depends on the ending)
I love Wendy, shes a cute and kind girl. Seeing her gain more confidence in herself was really nice, from the days when she was a shy and often doubted her strength to now where's she using her powers to the max, I loved the scene when she first used dragon force. Wendy is definitely strong, she beat one of the members of tartaros by herself and she's also one of the most important characters in the entire show with her excellent healing
My favorite arc was and still is the grand magic games but rewatching fairy tail now that I’m older I had a new appreciation for the tartrous and Alvarez arc (it did help I only saw tartrous in sub and I only read the Alvarez arc). My favorite parts of those arcs were Aquarius’s sacrifice, natsu vs gray/its resolution, sting and rouge finally winning a fight (I’m only half joking), happy’s sacrifice, Shelia’s sacrifice and so much more
I will be honest I loved fairy tail and how all the main character so op. Along with the fact that the story arc so crazy. I didn’t really like the art style but it grew on me. Later after I didn’t watch fairy tail anymore I see all the hate on it and the hate does have valid point so I change my opinion on it. And start to dislike it. But reading the manga again or the end of it make me reevaluate my viewpoint. Like why did I hate on it when at one point it was a series I enjoy so much.But at the end of the day fairy tail one of my favorite series specifically the mavis and zeref love story. Like there some cringey scene lot of fan service. But at the end of the day I love the show. I feel the same way about sao as well. Like the first part with the death game great. The second part it was ok doesn’t deserve the massive hate. The gun gale online part love it. But see some video hating on sao and I start to hate on it to. Now I am not ashamed to say I love both of these anime.
I am one of the people who hate the ending, but it's actually just the Acnologia part I dislike, I actually love the final arc, it starts out very strong and while it's a bit uneven, it has some really awesome and emotional moments, like the August backstory alone is so touching! and I don't mind the death fake outs. However having the very anti-climactic Acnologia fight be after Zeref is I think where Mashima messed up, Acnologia was boring compared to Zeref and having Natsu take all the powers of the others to defeat him instead of some tag team fight is my least favorite aspect. I personally would have loved if Ichiya's sacrifice to take out Acnologia worked and I guess some people would be pissed but I would be just so delighted with the idea that Ichiya took out Acnologia! way to subvert expectations!
