    BRS should offer a full quarantine kit. like a 20Gal aquarium, all the medications that elliot recommends, the air pump/filter, pvc, etc all in one go so you KNOW youre not missing something. hell even if you cant do the 20gal aquarium, thats probably the easiest thing to get yourself

      Shipping on standard cheap glass aquariums is brutal, but we can probably get a kit put together aside from the tank 🙂

      This is a fantastic suggestion. Box Stores often have sales that will help acquire a 20 gallon aquarium, or alternative container.
      But the kit idea is fantastic.

    Thank you for this, and the additional series to follow. I know I've struggled with this, along with so many others.
    Arguably, establishing a new Aquarium's micro biome was the fist major hurdle I encountered when starting in this hobby (and it posed a significant challenge). But, this topic of parasites quickly followed.
    My first parasite outbreak was dealing with brooklynella. At the time I only had 4 fish: two young Clowns, a Bristle Tooth, and a Yellow Tang. Knowing next-to-nothing about this topic, I lost the first Clown to the disease while buying the equipment to quarantine. The second died in the first day during treatment. And due to my inexperience, I sadly lost both Tangs trying to treat them with Formalin.
    While video series like this from BRS and others served as my first exposure to this amazing hobby. My own experience was over a year of fighting to establish a correct microbial colony in my dry rock and dead sand. Only to be followed by loosing the first fish I bought to parasites. And then, finding flatworms on my first few corals (which I assume will be in the coral part?).
    While this hobby is Beautiful when done right. That summed up my first two years in this hobby, even after watching content and trying to learn proper husbandry: it was an uphill challenge.
    So, thank you for your effort to educate and provide resources. I look forward to the rest of these.

Also details on how to treat those diseases alongs with effective meds alternatives if not available. As a new hobbyists who just started and faceing issues. I’ve been in the hobby 18 years. I spent close $100,000 in fish through the years. Since I started tank transferor method and small micron filtration, I’ve yet to lose a fish in the past 5.5 years. I wish I knew then what I know now. I’ve always fed well and a great variety so it’s specific to all the fish I’ve kept. But nothing is more important that a proper qt system. TTM being the most important and effective from what I’ve experienced, and only use freshwater dips and medicated food while in QT. Never copper.

    Here's an idea. If you have the money and I know it's hard to come by right now but make the quarantine tank look better. Add some of those fake coral caves and rocks. Makes it easier to look at and easy to clean. Makes your quarantine take look a little more like a display tank. Just a thought.

    If buying from a place like Marine Collectors, do you still recommended medicated quarantine? Also, do you think using copper in QT is better than the TTM?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 года назад

      If you're ordering from a retailer that already uses a medicated quarantine, then another medicated quarantine shouldn't be necessary. Copper does have some advantages over TTM (like treating for velvet), but some fish are sensitive to copper. In those cases, TTM would be a better way to go.

      Most bacteria responsible for converting ammonia to less harmful nitrite and nitrate will live on surfaces, so while it's totally acceptable to use clean ocean water, it's still valuable to follow the methods laid out in this video.

  • @Scott-cy6zv
    @Scott-cy6zv 2 года назад

    Awesome video!! Guys I have a cyano outbreak in my 38 gallon tank. I’ve been using a Fluval 407 canister filter. It’s been working awesome. I was told to remove the carbon media out of the canister filter before I dose chemiclean. But when I take out the charcoal/carbon bags should I wash them well after I take them out before I put them back into my filter after the 2-3 days of treatment of chemiclean? My ammonia is 0 and PH is 8.0 and my Nitrite is 0 and Nitrate is 5ppm upon testing right now. I’ve done a few water changes and put lights on for only 2 hours a day instead of the 10 hours before. Can’t wait to see your next 14 videos

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 года назад +1

      The pores in carbon media clogs extremely quickly, so I would suggest swapping it out with new carbon when you're ready to add it back to your system after treatment. Remember that if you have corals, most of them need light to survive, so 2 hours each day might be too extreme. If it's fish only, then the lighting schedule is much more flexible.

      @@BRStv THANK you guys sooooo much! I am amped for your new series guys. My tank has had zero issues till this cyano in almost 4 months. I’m new to this hobby. But like you guys mentioned a month ago for me to do was to use this tank water and filter for new tank. I bought the new Caribsea Araga-Live special grade sand to go into the 75 gallon. But I was also gonna grab a couple scoops of my established sand to add to the new sand for beneficial bacteria. And my tank is just a FOWLR. I think I have it all down correct for my tank upgrade. Many years of running a successful tank here
    Many qt procedures some that killed fish one that killed my tank...here's what i learned, and what worked.
    1 all qt tanks are unstable. Use daily water changes from your display(assuming your tank is pristine).
    2. bases of coral are the devil. No matter how encrusted remove...and make sure that no unusual growth is with the coral. This is hard to explain but the dreaded snot snail(most not actually bad as they help with sability, but they still suck) can hitchhike below the coral surface. It looks like a horn of coral on the entrusting base.
    3. After the plague it hard to get...thanks idiots.. but hydro quinilone works on the big 3. I ran it for 12 days. This represented the longest life cycle of ick, velvet or brisa- whatever its called.))
    4. Then 12 days of api general cure. This kills the other diseases. Then they are ready.
    Now for coral....i dipped in the insecticide ( dont substitute others will kill coral) we all know then iodine then a quick fresh water rinse. Then observation for a week...observation also means water parameter observation.
    I wish i could add a photo so you knew i wasn't just typing to type. This is years of experimentation and heartbreak. Plus a healthy dose of brs. Seriously i never would have made it without you guys. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
