Why didn’t they kick the field goal when 4th &2? Was their kicker hurt? A trick play on 4th at 2 at the 23 with a bowl game on the line? Sure
The trick play was a bad idea, but it's a guaranteed win with a first down. Defense was playing well so I guess they trusted the defense would get the job done if the play failed
