  • Is the Stratford Square Mall in the wrong place? Many say it’s in a bad location because it’s surrounded by housing. However looking at Google maps shows a fair bit of retail just across from the mall. I feel that this malls downfall is a classic case of not modernizing and the area being over malled. let’s take a look at this mall during the nite, day and Christmas over the last few years. This mall has had a very visible decline and it’s on borrowed time.

Used to live down the street in Hanover Park, saw Karate Kid 2 and Beetlejuice there when I was 7 and 8 years old with my friends from the neighborhood. Good times!

The mall was there BEFORE much of the housing. This was jammed in the 80s and 90s. We were there all the time. Woodfield is not close, it's about 20 miles away. It's pronounced shomburg, not shamburg. I have video of Stratford back in the day. I should post it - from the late 80s.

Great Work on this video, and while I never stepped foot into this Beautiful Mall, I'm truly Sorry to those who did and held this place dear for many memorable years. Both the Closing of Springhill and now recently Stratford, is a Sad site and a Loss for the communities.😥👎
I No longer live in the NW and Western Burbs of Chicago, IL but I attended and did from time to time visit and shop at several Malls like Oakbrook, Old Orchard, Woodfield,Lincolnwood, Golf Mill (very Dead mall), and those just South such as the HIP (Harlem Irving Plaza) a Thriving City mall, and Riverside near Brookfield,IL. ALL had their own uniqueness.
I never sadly visited Springhill or Stratford.😥 Both had and still have Beautiful Interrior design.
How were the Food Court Options at Stratford as compared to Woodfield and the rest❓️🤔
Thank You. At 47, I'm still a Mall Rat, living just outside the Los Angeles Ca Downtown city limits and my 2 malls are Santa Anita, and Montebello Town Center. I'm surprised at how both seem to be recovered from Covid and have held up against IOnline shopping, Amazon and other nearby retailers.
Anyway, Thanks and have subscribed and Like your Video and Work.
    😎🌴👍🏻

thanks so much for the support. Im sorry you moved to Los Angeles. My grandparents use to live in Lake forest and moved from California in 2005. I remember visiting them as a teen and loving California. Now looking back on it California was better back then but still an unsustainable place to live. Myself id much rather live in the Chicago area. Lower cost of living abundant resources like the Great Lakes for water and I enjoy having all the seasons. I didn't start visiting Stratford square until it was already going down hill. From what I could tell it did use to have a very nice food court. As for Spring Hill I visited it once about a year ago. I love making day trips from ohio to Chicago it's so fun.

The architecture is quite unique!! I am sure that not only location is an issue for this mall to thrive. American malls across the country are declining, as the dollar is worth less and less. Thanks for video!!

The mall definitely isn't in the wrong place. In the early 80s to late 90s it was difficult to find parking space. I was a regular there living only a few minutes away. As kid/ teen in the 80s it was a mega popular place to go.

@@nightswatch8659 oh nooo I wasn’t trying to make a snotty snobby comment. It’s just that basically anywhere within Chicago is expensive. Compared to places like Ohio or Michigan or anywhere else in the Midwest. You have to have a really decent income in order to live in a nice or decent part of the Chicago area. That’s all I was meaning and there’s no way I could afford it ever.

What a stupid title. I was living in Glendale Heights when this mall opened. It was all the rage for years. Spent many a weekend there. It’s just a sign of changing times all across the USA. There was a time when you couldn’t find parking anywhere.

I feel bad for the probably 5 families that more than likely lost theyr family farm land due to taxes being raised where this mall was built, my friends family used to own a good chunk of the land this mall sits on and now it’s just a waste of space
