Always preferred back in the day when oldschool localizers and translators would explain the turn of phrase being used in subtext, so the reader gets a better understanding and possibly learns something new.
I always liked Over-Time for their Woolseyisms, but also because people who left things _that could be easily translated as is_ (TV-Nihon, Kaizoku-Fansubs) really ticked me off. If you wanna leave a note, which is good, leave it after you've translated everything in a way that doesn't require us to go to translate every term. This ended up reaching fanstories as people are convinced you can just leave terms untranslated or that a word has some kind of symbolic meaning when it doesn't. I used to enjoy official subs when they came more because they _weren't_ doing that, but now the pot's tainted with these jokerz.

I mean I love videogames and I wish I could work in the industry and also could translate and adapt them (I'm Italian and I can speak English, French and Spanish very well, and have basic with German). As someone who's learning Japanese (the grind never stops) and knows how to speak two other languages, what these "professional" translators are doing is vandalism. These mistranslations become even more apparent when you're watching an anime and the few words and sentences you understand out of habit are warped by some cringy translator trying to be funneh or just changing the dialogue entirely.
As someone who spent several years working in the Fansub and manga scanlation world, I started out as a proofreader for translated scripts. The amount of random bullshit some translators put in that made no sense just by looking at the context of the scene in the anime/manga was frankly ridiculous. Localization does not mean changing the entire context of a scene because you wanted to use your local language slang. It was a real problem then, I suspect it's a real problem now.

People just cannot translate as close to 1:1 as possible they change the entire context and insert their crap politics into a TRANSLATION.

I forget the origin of the phrase but “the customer is always right” isn’t completely accurate. The real phrase is “in terms of taste the customer is always right” the customer doesn’t know everything but a customer does know what they like and hate. You can’t tell your customers what they should like or hate because that’s not up to you. They get all upset that we tell them it sucks, and make fun of the customer for not liking it. This is a losing business strategy.

I've been studying Japanese for more than a decade. I acknowledge how hard it is to learn. Still, there is an insult to what localization does to the work. I prefer broken translations over their translations. I'll never forget, how in a favorite anime of mine, they literally decided to switch/make up lines stating that a female's character's was actually ambiguously male (when she was female of a particular race, and there was no mention of her being a guy whatsoever.) But the localizer literally just made it all up. and then they carried it on throughout the entire anime, using him and he, even when the translation didn't even call for it. Trying to force it every 5 minutes. And because he wanted to use 'him' and 'he' he constantly twisted the lines and mistranslated the anime.
I miss fansubs NOT just for the accurate translations, but more than that for the editor notes. Instead substitution of something completely unrelated, we would get accurate subs at the bottom, while the entire top 1/3 or even 1/2 of the screen would be occupied by an "editor's note" explaining the cultural meaning of such things as all boys day, pocket day, and so on. It let me (and many others) LEARN more about the culture we were obviously interested in. Why would any actual anime fan not want to know about the world the series is set in? Heck, not just anime... Any serial or movie, for that matter?

Before a license for distribution in your country is acquired by the copyright owner, shows are allowed to be recorded from broadcast (that part is a big key, as it has to be OTA broadcast, so no web downloads or anything like a raw rip) and share. No money could be exchanged, and you had to wipe/destroy them after a legal copyright came out in your country.

I really like the use of "yeet, sus, incel", it is a great example for what a bad translation looks like. The use of contemporary slang, that did not exist a few years ago and will be forgotten in a few years, means the localizers stamp an expiration date on their own work, in turn making them apperear like the often-cited dusty old guy they are complaining about. They do not seem to even understand that they are using slang and that this, like all youth culture and especially since the internet became widely available, will fade quickly. If I would have to guess, many of these localizers made a hobby into their job and now they are panicking that their time with said easy job comes to an end.

As someone who's studying Japanese, I can say definitively that what these localizers do is complete wrong. Are there times when a sentence can't be translated to English while retaining their original meaning? Yes, there are but they're rare. These cases are often in the form of language puns and culture specific references to things. Fan subs found a way past these a long time ago by including translator notes in the episode as the pun or reference come up. Including these not only maintains the original's meaning but also broadens the viewer's understanding of the language and culture they're partaking in. Here's an example that my Japanese teacher gave me in the form of a really awful dad joke or "cold joke" as one would say in Japanese. Who is a going up the elevator? Ans: Agaru For those who understand simple Japanese, you'd probably get the joke right away. For those who don't, it's really simple. "Agaru" means "go up" but it also sounds like "a gyaru" thus who is going up? A girl. In cases like this, it is perfectly understandable for the entire joke to be rewritten to be understandable in English. But when basic sentences are being changed so much that what the character was originally saying is basically gone, that is just unnecessary and wrong.
Huh, first thing I thought of when I saw the joke was that the person going up was named "Agaru" I never would have guessed the answer to be " a gyaru"

Let's be fair here, translator's notes really only work with subtitles. You might not care about dubs, but they are important for attracting more general audience. I don't really know what the answer here is though, but I do agree something needs to change. I don't care if the translation isn't entirely literal, it just needs to be close enough while maintaining the same spirit. If these translators can't even do that, then they need a new job.

I worked for 4 years as a medical interpreter (translating medical appointments to people who didn't speak English to their language).I can't even imagine the disrespect if I had mocked patients for not understanding English but still wanting medical attention. The stakes are lower here, it's entertainment, but it's still disrespectful to the people that generate the demand for the services you provide, or at least are supposed to provide.

This is really a problem with the so-called "amateur" localizers. Because, there is actually a professional academic course called "translation/linguistics" in higher education. While not all translators and localizers have that education, the best ones who deal in high-level literature and publications usually do. And in school, they teach you the fundamentals of translating, the important principles. And among them, one of the most important is to "not self-insert" -- because self-inserting during translation has been, for centuries, a known problem where it seriously compromises the integrity of the original work. Another one is to avoid using buzz words -- because buzz words are time-sensitive. The buzz only lasts maybe a few years. After it's popularity is up, it becomes an awkward, terrible translation using slangs which nobody uses any more -- unqualified translators, of course, don't know this, because, like said, they're uneducated in their actual work. In contrast, most of anime, manga localizers, despite getting such jobs and perhaps worked for years, are at the core still amateurs. They lack the proper education and sense of ethics in their approach to translations. Many translators, despite being amateurs are honest and good folk, yes, but there are a lot of shady and unqualified people as well. Sometimes the localization being so bad, that you can actually spot things out, "yeah, there's no way this is how it's actually phrased in the original language" even without seeing the original work.
Sooo the fan translations that I've been reading (that are not just proofread machine translations) are close to professional, high academic standard translations? Damn

I study in a university in a faculty of translation, and basically number 1 rule for us is "You must be close to the original as much as possible". There will be moments, where it will be hard to keep as close, like differences in languages (like a word in one language can will be a whole sentence in another), different cultural realities, but it is our freaking job deal with such differences, not to "This character says that he likes apples, but I like oranges, so he will like oranges in my translation". And with each passing day my fear of being replaced by AI even before I finish university grows stronger and stronger

Their defense of "How could you not want my magnificent translations" is funny because it's so tone deaf to the fact that people are cheering shittier localization in the translations if it means getting rid of the local politics and slang. As far as the name calling goes, I see accounts with pronouns or other "current thing" in the bio and I already know they're going to call me a raft of irrelevant slurs in the hopes it silences criticism and keeps the attention on the targets of their defamation rather than their actions. I really miss fan subs. Those little editor notes were so useful for anime like Gintama where a lot of the jokes are based on Japanese culture and puns.
I've worked with a few partially-english speaking Japanese users as a beta tester, bug checker, and a translation proofreader for almost a year now on Dreams, and they also do give feed back on any Japanese translation i put in my projects as well. Both of us understand that translation between English and Japanese is rather difficult to the point that we know that Google Translate isn't reliable very much to use by just translating a full sentence, then cleaning up any possible errors by checking each word one by one along with any descriptive terms or contextual meaning. It's often better to translate a few words separately to refine what defintion Google is using for it first before moving onto the full sentence. Many words don't have a Japanese equivalent which can make it difficult to translate something as simple as a controls list for a generic and simple shooter. Gun terms are really hard to figure out what terms should even be used, but this doesn't mean anything should just be cut and replaced with something else. Something i have never actually thought about before is why neither of us ever considered asking each other to translate each other's games instead of translating it ourselves then sending the rough translation version to have it proofread and beta tested.

Fan translations are so much better for Manwhas, I haven't read many, but I've found that fansubs are much more precise and make sense; whereas the official ones are often very much out of place. And I mean, cmon... they change the names of the characters a tad too often. Seriously, "James Johnson", In Korea?

He mentions that if developers wants that less people pirate their games, they better have a service that makes it easy to access them i.e. easier to buy them or available in the respective countries where the pirates are. The quality of the games was not the one in question. If we really want to analogue this with the manga translations, it would be like the "game" is the story, the translation would be the "service" to understand the story. The "service" is crappy because the translators made it difficult to understand the story like how author would have wanted because they prioritized idealogy before accuracy. While the "pirates" most of the case are the fan translators, for the service they provide, made it "easier" because they try put accuracy first before any of the idealogue nonsense.
I swear half the time, fan translation groups put out translations that are way higher quality than official translations sometimes. It just sucks that they usually drop them once it gets officially licensed.
That's why I read everything new as soon as they're translated before politics infect it. They can't possibly keep up with all scanlators not to mention they don't officially translate it if it was not licensed or else they will be working on something they will never license thus wasting time and resources.
I want to play the newer games because I've loved the earlier ones but now I feel like I'm better off waiting for a fan translation patch or something. It really is heartbreaking since the writing and the characters are really the backbone of the series.
AI translations will be the best thing to happen for those that don’t speak Japanese. My best recommendation is to just invest in learning Japanese. Not just for anime, but employment opportunities, personal development and to have access to a great culture. Learning languages also has brain health benefits such as preventing dementia and Alzheimer’s. Plus, you don’t have to deal with these loocalisers so it’s a win win.

These localisers really underestimate how quick a lot of younger viewers pick up on common phrases and can learn a good amount of the language through anime and what they mean. Most of us weebs who have been around for decades at this point and don't stick to just to mainstream stuff are insanely quick to pick on translation errors even with no true education in Japanese. Hell I get a massive sixth sense when something is off. I wouldn't pick a fight with us localisers. Most of us have more than two braincells and don't browse X and reddit all day or care for whatever political subject is trendy that week.
Maybe publishers and foreign distributors need to hire Japanese natives who are good to fluent in various foreign languages. Of course, these Japanese native translators would need to be trained and vetted, in order to perform for and represent theses publishers and foreign distributors like model professionals. Translators in the mould of Studio Khara's Dan Kanemitsu or similar come to mind. As for A.I. being used for translations, on one side these localisers had it coming and I enjoy seeing them squirm and cry, as translations will be less contaminated with western woke ideology. On the other hand, the quality of translations will (temporarily) dip, as they will partially lack a certain human touch. There's also a danger that certain (political) biases can also be programmed and integrated into A.I.. Model professional translators can definitely use A.I. as an additional tool to assist them. It's a double-edge sword. Anyway, these woke localisers had it coming. Let's hope they get blacklisted from their profession and banned for all eternity. They deserve no forgiveness. Not ever. It’s time to return to the days where translations were never done during the development or production of certain products, but to do translations after the completion of the original (Japanese language) version as it was the way things were done in the past. The tried, tested and successfully proven. Translating Japanese I.P.s under Japanese norms never ever hurt or harmed foreign or domestic users, customers, etc. in any way, due to historical, religious or cultural differences. The Japanese historical, religious or cultural differences are what made and still make Japanese I.P.s successful in the first place. Domestic audiences and fanbases are the lifeblood of every successful I.P.. Foreign audiences and fanbases are a bonus though. This also reminds me of what J.C. Staff producer Astushi Fujishiro said in regards to foreign fans of anime. “Rather than changing things for foreigners,” “simply carry on with our style.” “I don’t think overseas fans have caused big changes in our style.” “When I think about it, the Japanese style of animation has been well-received overseas,” “So rather than changing things for foreigners, we simply carry on with our style.” “While we are aware of overseas fans, we generally don’t make changes for their sake.” Foreign fans of Japanese I.P.s want translations to be faithful to the original with the creator’s original vision intact, uncut, unedited and uncensored. The same thing goes for the Japanese historical, religious or cultural differences that are included and embedded. That’s what also makes Japanese I.P.s stand out.

It's worth mentioning that the localization at 4:44 is a heavily localized fan translation, and it isn't the official one. In fact, I've heard that the official one didn't contain all those zoomer memes, and was overall a better translation than that particular fanmade localization. But this also serves as a reminder that you need to check the authenticity of fan translations too, because woke localizers are infiltrating fan translation groups and injecting their bad memes and woke politics into those as well. Nothing is safe.
Official TL is based on this one fan TL tho. Also that "woke" line never was there, at least not in the final version. For the rest: I understand controversy with bruh moment and maybe absolute madman, but other lines are fine and people are overreacting by inertia.

One example would be in DxD where a major plot point in the light novel and sub is that the MC never calls the main LI by her name and in the english dub he always calls her by her name. This led to a massive scramble to fix it in season4 with them pretending he never called ber by her name and keeping it a major plot points expecting that the viewers should just forget that he spent 3/4 seasons doing exactly that. Then there is dragon maid where the Partiarchy joke completely changes the characters core gimmick of a goddess/dragon who doesnt understand humans at all and thus is confused by their reactions to a person well enough versed in human culture, memes and social issues to be talking about the patriarchy and sexism. There are countless more examples where they change character, relationships and motivations to fit their own agendas.
I think one of the worst translations aside from what's already wellknown is from a screenshot where in the original a woman basically says: "I won't have a problem beating an old man." This got changed to: "something about adult diapers and a senior citizen discount."
Or the classics "oniichan" into "bro bro". Because the former carries the sexual innuendo of incest, while the latter is obviously what all incestuous localizers call their brothers when they want to fuck.

I always liked Over-Time for their Woolseyisms, but also because people who left things _that could be easily translated as is_ (TV-Nihon, Kaizoku-Fansubs) really ticked me off. If you wanna leave a note, which is good, leave it after you've translated everything in a way that doesn't require us to go to translate every term. This ended up reaching fanstories as people are convinced you can just leave terms untranslated or that a word has some kind of symbolic meaning when it doesn't. I used to enjoy official subs when they came more because they _weren't_ doing that, but now the pot's tainted with these jokerz.

As someone who spent several years working in the Fansub and manga scanlation world, I started out as a proofreader for translated scripts. The amount of random bullshit some translators put in that made no sense just by looking at the context of the scene in the anime/manga was frankly ridiculous. Localization does not mean changing the entire context of a scene because you wanted to use your local language slang. It was a real problem then, I suspect it's a real problem now.

I forget the origin of the phrase but “the customer is always right” isn’t completely accurate. The real phrase is “in terms of taste the customer is always right” the customer doesn’t know everything but a customer does know what they like and hate. You can’t tell your customers what they should like or hate because that’s not up to you. They get all upset that we tell them it sucks, and make fun of the customer for not liking it. This is a losing business strategy.

I've been studying Japanese for more than a decade. I acknowledge how hard it is to learn. Still, there is an insult to what localization does to the work. I prefer broken translations over their translations. I'll never forget, how in a favorite anime of mine, they literally decided to switch/make up lines stating that a female's character's was actually ambiguously male (when she was female of a particular race, and there was no mention of her being a guy whatsoever.) But the localizer literally just made it all up. and then they carried it on throughout the entire anime, using him and he, even when the translation didn't even call for it. Trying to force it every 5 minutes. And because he wanted to use 'him' and 'he' he constantly twisted the lines and mistranslated the anime.
I miss fansubs NOT just for the accurate translations, but more than that for the editor notes. Instead substitution of something completely unrelated, we would get accurate subs at the bottom, while the entire top 1/3 or even 1/2 of the screen would be occupied by an "editor's note" explaining the cultural meaning of such things as all boys day, pocket day, and so on. It let me (and many others) LEARN more about the culture we were obviously interested in.
Why would any actual anime fan not want to know about the world the series is set in? Heck, not just anime... Any serial or movie, for that matter?

Before a license for distribution in your country is acquired by the copyright owner, shows are allowed to be recorded from broadcast (that part is a big key, as it has to be OTA broadcast, so no web downloads or anything like a raw rip) and share. No money could be exchanged, and you had to wipe/destroy them after a legal copyright came out in your country.

I really like the use of "yeet, sus, incel", it is a great example for what a bad translation looks like. The use of contemporary slang, that did not exist a few years ago and will be forgotten in a few years, means the localizers stamp an expiration date on their own work, in turn making them apperear like the often-cited dusty old guy they are complaining about. They do not seem to even understand that they are using slang and that this, like all youth culture and especially since the internet became widely available, will fade quickly. If I would have to guess, many of these localizers made a hobby into their job and now they are panicking that their time with said easy job comes to an end.

As someone who's studying Japanese, I can say definitively that what these localizers do is complete wrong. Are there times when a sentence can't be translated to English while retaining their original meaning? Yes, there are but they're rare. These cases are often in the form of language puns and culture specific references to things. Fan subs found a way past these a long time ago by including translator notes in the episode as the pun or reference come up. Including these not only maintains the original's meaning but also broadens the viewer's understanding of the language and culture they're partaking in. Here's an example that my Japanese teacher gave me in the form of a really awful dad joke or "cold joke" as one would say in Japanese.

For those who understand simple Japanese, you'd probably get the joke right away. For those who don't, it's really simple. "Agaru" means "go up" but it also sounds like "a gyaru" thus who is going up? A girl.
In cases like this, it is perfectly understandable for the entire joke to be rewritten to be understandable in English. But when basic sentences are being changed so much that what the character was originally saying is basically gone, that is just unnecessary and wrong.

Let's be fair here, translator's notes really only work with subtitles. You might not care about dubs, but they are important for attracting more general audience. I don't really know what the answer here is though, but I do agree something needs to change.

This is really a problem with the so-called "amateur" localizers. Because, there is actually a professional academic course called "translation/linguistics" in higher education. While not all translators and localizers have that education, the best ones who deal in high-level literature and publications usually do. And in school, they teach you the fundamentals of translating, the important principles. And among them, one of the most important is to "not self-insert" -- because self-inserting during translation has been, for centuries, a known problem where it seriously compromises the integrity of the original work.
Another one is to avoid using buzz words -- because buzz words are time-sensitive. The buzz only lasts maybe a few years. After it's popularity is up, it becomes an awkward, terrible translation using slangs which nobody uses any more -- unqualified translators, of course, don't know this, because, like said, they're uneducated in their actual work.
In contrast, most of anime, manga localizers, despite getting such jobs and perhaps worked for years, are at the core still amateurs. They lack the proper education and sense of ethics in their approach to translations. Many translators, despite being amateurs are honest and good folk, yes, but there are a lot of shady and unqualified people as well. Sometimes the localization being so bad, that you can actually spot things out, "yeah, there's no way this is how it's actually phrased in the original language" even without seeing the original work.
Sooo the fan translations that I've been reading (that are not just proofread machine translations) are close to professional, high academic standard translations? Damn

I study in a university in a faculty of translation, and basically number 1 rule for us is "You must be close to the original as much as possible". There will be moments, where it will be hard to keep as close, like differences in languages (like a word in one language can will be a whole sentence in another), different cultural realities, but it is our freaking job deal with such differences, not to "This character says that he likes apples, but I like oranges, so he will like oranges in my translation".
And with each passing day my fear of being replaced by AI even before I finish university grows stronger and stronger

I've worked with a few partially-english speaking Japanese users as a beta tester, bug checker, and a translation proofreader for almost a year now on Dreams, and they also do give feed back on any Japanese translation i put in my projects as well. Both of us understand that translation between English and Japanese is rather difficult to the point that we know that Google Translate isn't reliable very much to use by just translating a full sentence, then cleaning up any possible errors by checking each word one by one along with any descriptive terms or contextual meaning. It's often better to translate a few words separately to refine what defintion Google is using for it first before moving onto the full sentence.
Many words don't have a Japanese equivalent which can make it difficult to translate something as simple as a controls list for a generic and simple shooter. Gun terms are really hard to figure out what terms should even be used, but this doesn't mean anything should just be cut and replaced with something else.
Something i have never actually thought about before is why neither of us ever considered asking each other to translate each other's games instead of translating it ourselves then sending the rough translation version to have it proofread and beta tested.

Fan translations are so much better for Manwhas, I haven't read many, but I've found that fansubs are much more precise and make sense; whereas the official ones are often very much out of place. If we really want to analogue this with the manga translations, it would be like the "game" is the story, the translation would be the "service" to understand the story. The "service" is crappy because the translators made it difficult to understand the story like how author would have wanted because they prioritized idealogy before accuracy. I swear half the time, fan translation groups put out translations that are way higher quality than official translations sometimes. It just sucks that they usually drop them once it gets officially licensed.

They can't possibly keep up with all scanlators not to mention they don't officially translate it if it was not licensed or else they will be working on something they will never license thus wasting time and resources.
As a diehard fan of the Trails games, seeing what they've done to those scripts is beyond heartbreaking.

I want to play the newer games because I've loved the earlier ones but now I feel like I'm better off waiting for a fan translation patch or something. It really is heartbreaking since the writing and the characters are really the backbone of the series.
I'm not even sure where that Trails example was from because my steam copy sure didn't have that.

AI translations will be the best thing to happen for those that don’t speak Japanese. My best recommendation is to just invest in learning Japanese. Not just for anime, but employment opportunities, personal development and to have access to a great culture. Learning languages also has brain health benefits such as preventing dementia and Alzheimer’s. Plus, you don’t have to deal with these loocalisers so it’s a win win.

These localisers really underestimate how quick a lot of younger viewers pick up on common phrases and can learn a good amount of the language through anime and what they mean. Most of us weebs who have been around for decades at this point and don't stick to just to mainstream stuff are insanely quick to pick on translation errors even with no true education in Japanese. Hell I get a massive sixth sense when something is off. I wouldn't pick a fight with us localisers. Most of us have more than two braincells and don't browse X and reddit all day or care for whatever political subject is trendy that week.

Maybe publishers and foreign distributors need to hire Japanese natives who are good to fluent in various foreign languages. Of course, these Japanese native translators would need to be trained and vetted, in order to perform for and represent theses publishers and foreign distributors like model professionals. Translators in the mould of Studio Khara's Dan Kanemitsu or similar come to mind.
As for A.I. being used for translations, on one side these localisers had it coming and I enjoy seeing them squirm and cry, as translations will be less contaminated with western woke ideology. On the other hand, the quality of translations will (temporarily) dip, as they will partially lack a certain human touch. There's also a danger that certain (political) biases can also be programmed and integrated into A.I.. Model professional translators can definitely use A.I. as an additional tool to assist them. It's a double-edge sword. Anyway, these woke localisers had it coming. Let's hope they get blacklisted from their profession and banned for all eternity. They deserve no forgiveness. Not ever.
It’s time to return to the days where translations were never done during the development or production of certain products, but to do translations after the completion of the original (Japanese language) version as it was the way things were done in the past. The tried, tested and successfully proven. Translating Japanese I.P.s under Japanese norms never ever hurt or harmed foreign or domestic users, customers, etc. in any way, due to historical, religious or cultural differences. The Japanese historical, religious or cultural differences are what made and still make Japanese I.P.s successful in the first place. Domestic audiences and fanbases are the lifeblood of every successful I.P.. Foreign audiences and fanbases are a bonus though.
This also reminds me of what J.C. Staff producer Astushi Fujishiro said in regards to foreign fans of anime.

Foreign fans of Japanese I.P.s want translations to be faithful to the original with the creator’s original vision intact, uncut, unedited and uncensored. The same thing goes for the Japanese historical, religious or cultural differences that are included and embedded. That’s what also makes Japanese I.P.s stand out.

It's worth mentioning that the localization at 4:44 is a heavily localized fan translation, and it isn't the official one. In fact, I've heard that the official one didn't contain all those zoomer memes, and was overall a better translation than that particular fanmade localization.
But this also serves as a reminder that you need to check the authenticity of fan translations too, because woke localizers are infiltrating fan translation groups and injecting their bad memes and woke politics into those as well. Nothing is safe.
Official TL is based on this one fan TL tho. Also that "woke" line never was there, at least not in the final version.
For the rest: I understand controversy with bruh moment and maybe absolute madman, but other lines are fine and people are overreacting by inertia.

@@asdbanz316you can not deny how much some localizers has messed up entire scripts and changed entire characters.
One example would be in DxD where a major plot point in the light novel and sub is that the MC never calls the main LI by her name and in the english dub he always calls her by her name.
This led to a massive scramble to fix it in season4 with them pretending he never called ber by her name and keeping it a major plot points expecting that the viewers should just forget that he spent 3/4 seasons doing exactly that.
Then there is dragon maid where the Partiarchy joke completely changes the characters core gimmick of a goddess/dragon who doesnt understand humans at all and thus is confused by their reactions to a person well enough versed in human culture, memes and social issues to be talking about the patriarchy and sexism.
There are countless more examples where they change character, relationships and motivations to fit their own agendas.
I think one of the worst translations aside from what's already wellknown is from a screenshot where in the original a woman basically says: "I won't have a problem beating an old man."
This got changed to: "something about adult diapers and a senior citizen discount."
