I like this one rather a lot! From $400USD on Kickstarter in a week's time, which I think is a great deal on a well thought out micro that would make a great long-termer. So, so comfortable on wrist, clean and sharp lines throughout. Just be careful with your choice of second hand colour! Cheers, Jody
Awesome dial and awesome hands.love the fact that broad hands that go up to the chaper ring. Big second hand in nice colour is fantastic !
Very, very nice. I really like the screw-down crown and the smooth ETA-esque sweep of the high-beat movement. I have Miyota movements on a few of my watches and they perform faultlessly and very accurately; my only complaint being that the crown can be a little finicky (particularly on the Phoibos PY007). Thanks for reviewing another intriguing watch, Jody.
Looks like a real sweety, always nice to see a company putting a lot of effort into the minor details. That bracelet looks really nice, I really like how much it tapers. The dial doesn't excite me much but it's still pretty nice, the recessed center reminds me a bit of a Hamilton Field Khaki which is not a bad thing.
Seems so many want a huge diameter, but I appreciate the bezel- less design, with the big, broad dial. Personally? I prefer a date complication at the 3, but as you've stated, this is brilliantly inspired by, but certainly not, an homage. Great review, Jodie!
Very smooth seconds hand “sweep” 👍
I just received one of these watches and was presently surprised it has a box domed sapphire crystal. They listened to your suggestion!
Such a gorgeous piece! Can’t wait to get mine!
It looks simple but with enough details to slowly grow on you, the taper of the bracelet closes the deal for me... I want one!
Great review Jody, have been waiting for this review as I have talked to Jon at Traska and he named you as a reviewer which made it all the better because I knew that we would get a top notch review on this IMHO fantastic watch. This will go live on Kickstarter at 10am EST on the 28th of October. Thanks again for your great work.
I have bought one.... it is a perfect watch (almost!!!)... and superb customer support.... I wear Citizens divers as my everyday watches. the Summiteer is my treat!
I like how this stands out by being an explorer type (similar sizing, function, legibility) but not an explorer homage (block numerals, damn mercedes hours, and black gloss dial)
38mm and a green dial, oof..... I'm going to have to get one of these! Love the orange on green here, very nicely done.
That's a good review. Not heard of them before. Good advice. Thanks!
This is a very nice watch. I like that they went wit a true no date movement.
Only think is even at $400, there is some serious competition. For less then $400, you can get certain Hamilton Khaki Field Autos Grey market. While the look is different, anyone who is interested in a field watch around this price would at least want to look into the Khaki Field.
Best alternative? Sinn 556a! Absolutely no doubt. 😊
Trying to decide on my next purchase. Traska was on my list To go back and take a look at. Now I remember why. When you compare them to other Watches of the same style in this price range they Win every category. Thanks Jody for a great review!
I think it’s a beauty. Very nice. I like the two tier dial, quite ‘Tissotesqe’. The blue and green look lovely, and those big hands...very cool.
On the day/date question, one of my favourite watches has the day at the top, curving around where the 12 should be and the date at 6.
I am surprised more makers don’t use that complication as it’s very pleasing to the eye. However, this particular watch looks great to me, as it is.
Thanks, Jodie, for another great review!
Love the diameter, thickness and overall detail. I think you have shown me a microbrand a would actually buy 😁
What's the best budget traska summiteer alternative?
😆
The Seiko snke63j1? About $90-$100.
Tisell
@@TheShotenZenjin I like the SNKE63, but is there a similar version with a "3" instead of day and date?
P Daddy There’s the Seiko Presage SRPB07J1, a very nice little watch in its own right, but more expensive and maybe difficult to find nowadays. There is a quartz solar model, the Seiko sne329 for $90 www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNE329-Sport-Solar-Powered-Stainless/dp/B00I1KSQ6Q/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Seiko+sne329&qid=1571833058&sr=8-1
Was looking forward to seeing this review after seeing it on your wrist on IG during the week Jody.
I think I would go with a yellow second hand on the green dial. I have a Nautis diver green dial and the yellow second hand is very nice!
Impressed with Traska. Definitely want that minty green Freediver when they become available again in December
I like it! Micros tend to be hit and miss for me, but this one looks great. Would pick the black or blue one.
Agree on you on this one. Very well done watch it appears and not a straightforward homage. Cheers V.
Not a fan of that particular colorway, but it does seem rather promising. I feel like it would just be a stopgap to a Rolex Explorer for me. I'd rather save that money to put toward something that brings more than an ephemeral enjoyment. Another great video, Jody. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Reminds me of my Citizen, which is one of my favorite watches. I think mine is 38mm, so wears as a semi-formal watch.
can't wait for this one. Thx for the heads up.
"Gordian Knot" is what that swirl is called.
Apt therefore to use sword hands.
Celtic knot
Boogur T. Wang You mean “Tigordian knot”
Yes , a close copy of the Tudor rose.
It's not even close to looking like a Gordian knot.
Nice watch I like the borealis Adraga with 300m water resistance with the same movement as well
I really like what Traska has been doing from a price/specs standpoints. Unfortunately neither of their designs have really stuck with me. I think it is mostly because I have a strong preference for applied indexes
WOW I totally agree what a beauty. I too had misgivings about the dimensions but it does look great on your wrist Jody (always above the knuckle though!). Tempted for sure, might check out the website right now 😍
A great surprise!
1:01 a.m. Sunday where I am at.
Thanks Jody-
No, thank you for watching at 01:01!!
2 AM for me!
I thought you were already cool, then I see you with the Dodgers shirt! Now you have moved up several tiers on the cool meter. Awesome!
Excellent idea to allow second hand color choice, don't like contrasting/different hand colors (or styles). I would enjoy it more if the style and dimensional ratios of the hour hand matched the minute hand. That pastel shade might look good in blue.
Love the channel. Much more my budget than TGV. Lol. Totally agree with you about most things and definitely about the straps. So... here a video ode for you. .. can you do a straps video, especially affordable and best metal straps with great buckle. So i can replace the crappy ones that come with most watches, especially SEIKOs?
Hmmm, just bought another Helm but will consider this, a different look is always desirable. The green with the orange second had is the only way to go.
An interesting watch and always thrilled to see one with classically modest case dimensions. My nits would be printed versus applied markings on the dial and is it just me or does the font chosen for the arabics seem a tad ordinary and sterile?
Excellent review (as always).
1200 HV on the Vickers scale, that is identical with Sinn’s tegiment procedure.
It's probably just a case hardening, judging by the 1200 HV
Love your reviews. Respectfully, I’d like to suggest a topic that I think only you could properly do. Show us several Seiko quartz watches that are viable alternatives to popular mechanicals like the Presage, SARB, SARY, etc. In particular, I’m interested in the SGEH41P1, but I’d like to hear of others. As a fellow frugal Scotsman, I don’t always want an expensive mechanical with its expensive maintenance.
'WELL HELLO THERE'...... Love your channel and have bought many watches that you have reviewed. Looking to buy my first Torgoen, interested in the T9 GMT and T16 chronograph but can't find any in depth reviews like yours on RUclips. Perhaps you could review one of these models in the near future. Cheers
Hey jody great review again! I just bought a cheap quartz submariner homage on Amazon. It's a reginald and it was 35 bucks. I've worn it every day for 2 weeks and I love it! Hope you take a look
It's nice. That dial logo is a bit like Starking 🤔
Seems great! I really like it!
I love an explorer but not so keen on this, possibly that dial colour and font pissing my eyes off? Nice review as ever ,cheers
I'd definitely say that the best budget explorer homage is the black bay 36, though of course that's a completely different price point.
Also, not a fan of the open back on a tool watch like this, and I would've preferred the writing that says "stainless steel 316L" to have been about the hardness coating instead.
I’m on the fence with this one, checks many of the boxes, but even the early bird price is just a touch too steep of a price for me. When I first saw the watch, I thought it needed a dome crystal also. It’s a little flat looking to me. Also, If it had the ETA, it would be much more tempting. Great videos, keep them coming!
Hey Jody! I think the basic watch is so good, they could have upped the movement and it would all still have worked for me. But yes, maybe a little flat. Cheers mate!
I agree, I do think the simple aesthetics of the watch is very nice, but for some reason, when the dial is simple, I prefer a domed crystal. I will say, after watching the video again, I’m really didn’t give enough appreciation to the bracelet. That bracelet looks really nice!
Just One More Watch
Jody,
Desert island and you could only bring one... Traska summiteer or Borealis adraga?
Cheers!
David Hart I would go with the Borealis Adraga all day long! It’s an absolutely stunning piece. Especially for the price. $500 (regular price) just seems too much for the Traska.
@Christopher Wood -MDH- and very loud, depending on the case, I would rather see it with a solid caseback
I have a traska. I love it and it's a great looking watch but it is slow. I'm new to automatic watches but I'm assuming it can be adjusted or something.
You know me pal massive fan of this style of watch and traska do make an effort with their watches but I think I prefer the Borialis Adraga you had on a while back....nice tho.....great vid hope you're well mate 👍
Been waiting for this review, and the watch itself. Great video just like the rest. How is the new clasp compared to the Freedivers?
The same clasp
You are the man Jody!
Helloooooooooooooo! Thanks mate!
@@JustOneMoreWatch sitting up with my sick toddler boy and was so happy to see one of your videos pop up. Even sick my little boy smiled and looked at my phone and said "hewoooooh!"
Hope he gets well soon mate!
Jody, great video.
Is it possible to do a whole video of affordable watches (explorer homages?) for small wrists.
I love your Chinese specials. Just got myself a cadisen C1032 :)
Love the shirt man!
Been seeing this one on IG a lot lately. I like.
Nice but with that money I would go for a Smiths Everest. And I like the 36 mm size more. Already got myself Sinn 556i and Smiths PRS -29 ( couldnt resist and doubled it with a newest ChW Sandhurst) with handwinding ETA so I more than ready to explore ;) Love the Traska design and Miyota movement tho.
Love this one, nice design!
I completely agree with you about the movement. Although I like the Miyota's, I believe that when you start getting above that $400 price point that a Swiss engine would be more desirable.
That is really an amazing watch👍
Yeah, I'm a fan. A lot of the appeal of the 214270 but for $400. 👌
I love how simplistic it looks and I do agree that the crystal should be a little domed
I’m actually 13 and trying to build my own watch collection
I currently have a seiko sne497 solar tuna,a g shock dw5600-e with green nato and rainbow bull bar,a f91w amp a vintage gigandet chrono
I’m actually think of getting a Vostok amphibian or a seiko skx009 which one would you get?
Thanks👍
* Checks JOMW * No new videos yet.
* Closes browser * Wait, let me check one more time before bed...
YES!!!
Thanks Ryan!
Lol😂
Another great review Jody, I do like the Sage colour that you reviewed but I agree with you I would prefer to pay the extra for a Selita SW200, this is fast becoming the entry level in movements for Microbrands that want to be serious players when kicking off a brand (or new model of an existing brand) in today's competitive market place as the space has changed as we have seen...the sooner they realise this the consumer will not only benefit but we will see more customers embracing the culture of the microbrand model more willingly at a higher price as opposed to always looking to them for a bargain on a Kickstarter campaign.
Very nice video fan of this watch 🤓👍
Great review Jodie
I'm so happy to see a nice "evergreen" watch that is NOT a diver.
Hi. Nice review. I was tempted during their campaign. But for me, the Mercedes is a must. That leaves, Smiths, mad mods, Bernhardt and a certain South Korean brand that I seem to gravitate towards. Can you convince San Martain to do an explorer homage?
It looks like and NTH Drive watches without the bezel. Even the same movement. Same handset as the Catalina. See through case back is nice. Unidirectional rotor would bother me. It might be a little too close to my NTH Catalina. I am tempted though.
Like that a lot, great it's under 40mm.
Hey, Jody! What brand are those stackable winders you have back there? I’m in the market for 6 and I like the modular nature of those. Thanks!!
Hi Jody
This is a very nice watch. Does it have a screw-down crown?
Some good chat about this one on WUS the other week. Getting the bad out if the way first, the price is too high especially given the Miyota 9 series movement. The dial looks great though, as does the finishing and great to see a THIN watch these days! Drilled lugs are also a big plus. I am a big fan of this sort of homage, it is far from a straight copy but has enough cues to show what it's inspired by. Display case back on a mountaineering watch though? Not sure about that.
Movement in the MB arena at this price level needs to be a Selita SW200 minimum now as time have changed & its a competitive space.
am with u 100% thats a brill watch... for the price cheers
Agree that I'd spend a tad more for a slightly better movement. But nicely done Trasca, cheers.
Excellent review as usual Jody. How soon can we expect your review of the new RLG ODYSSEA MARK III OCEANFARER Diver? Seems to have upped the Mark II nicely and I was pretty smitten by that model.
Well, they sent me a prototype, and it is good. But looks like I'll be waiting for the production units unitl I review it. Cheers!
I like how Jody starts his videos. "HELLO AND WELCOME" he sounds like a pirate welcoming kids to his amusement park.
Micro brands rock. I do wish they would switch up the clasps a bit and if the Miyota 9015 is being used, make that thing quiet down!
Great review, as always! I was thinking the same as you: is this sort of money is justified for something with a Miyota in it? There are many other watches that offer Sellita or ETA movements at the same price point.
@Christopher Wood -MDH- I don't dispute any of that - in fact my experience is the same - it is a matter of how much a Miyota costs in comparison to a Sellita or ETA. There is a substantial cost difference. With a Miyota I don't think they can justify the price.
@Christopher Wood -MDH- Surprised? It's painfully obvious!
Very clean, nice watch.
My pick for an explorer alternative which isn't a homage is the Seiko Alpinist
What about the Armida A6?
It's obviously more of a homage to the explorer (i.e. almost an identical copy) than this, which I personally prefer; but it also seems to offer as good if not better specs for less money.
I think my Hamilton Khaki King II with a proper Swiss movement, bankable brand, 80 hour power reserve and domed sapphire crystal is a far better value. These can be had for around the $400 price point and I only paid $365 for mine BNIB. It also has a nice date complication but, if you don't want that there are numerous variations to choose from. The only improvement I can see on this watch is the hard coating which is a nice feature, but not a reason to buy one.
Summiteer...
They are truly running out of decent names for watches.
Going by the "being-manly-and-conquering-the-mountain" theme for this watch, may I suggest as alternate names:
Footslogger
Ropefondler
PuffyJacketWearer
LostMySherpa
-er
OxygenPuffer
Or, given the current state of Mt. Everest - QueueDodger or TrafficJammer,
Earthen Jadis Lol! What about Anycar LostmySherpa.
Or titles for the real world...
Mousepusher
Hallwalker
Coffeedrinker
Emailwriter
I do like footslogger, though.
Earthen Jadis epic names. Lol
Ropefondler lmao
For the price they are asking it should have a Swiss movement. The Steinhart OVM is Swiss made, has an ETA 2824-2 and actually costs less.
I would love if you reviewed Heidallr Turtle homage watch.
That is certainly a fantastic watch. Jodi, perhaps at some time in the future, you can do a video on flat vs domed crystal's. You obviously love a dome crystal but I ABSOLUTELY hate them. All they do, as far as I can tell, is make a dial less legible, create bad reflections, and generally make a watch less enjoyable. I really can't see any good reason to put a domed crystal on a watch, and particularly a single dome.
Peter N agreed 👍
Well I like the distorsions and the dimension it adds to the watch. Purely aesthetic reasons, and purely subjective. Not every watch looks good with a domed crystal though.
Dateless is nice too
Beautiful !
Can you review the Traska commuter
Very nice watch! And I love your channel. ***Recommendation for review: I just bought a very nice Boccia watch for about $150. Titanium, sapphire, 100 meter, I love it and think you might too! Model 3591-02. Parent company of Boccia is German watch company Tutima.
Damn. I had been looking for something to scratch the Explorer itch but didn't want a complete knock off. I just dropped too much money on a Tudor BB 41. A great watch but I honestly think I would have gone with this and saved myself $1700.
Look, I think that they can do a little more with the dial, which, for me, is a little dull. Embossed hour markers and a bolder triangle @12 o'clock, might elevate the look of this watch.
It’s a great modern take on an explorer watch!
However...
There’s a Smith’s Everest watch.
330 pounds, or $425 US.
Jēzus Meza Smiths Everest is a nice piece indeed!
I have a question. I have been watching a lot of his videos lately and think they are really enjoyable and informative (it made me order the loreo). But since he is partnered with AliExpress, isn't he kinda biased to these models?
What do you think of the tisell explorer?
Wow, a 500$ watch that justifies its price? I'm shocked
How does this compare to say the Adraga?
400 or 500 dollars I would expect an eta 2824 or SW-200 swiss movements.
Exactly
This miyota is as good as ETA
@@f0o0rest Of course, but it costs a lot less.
@@f0o0rest I have one and it is noisy and the rotor is loud. It also loses 15 seconds a day. Maybe I have a bad one. I don't know.
@@scottsj4625 I think it's within specs. ETA or sellita is not made in Switzerland it's a mass produced movement. Made in china same as miyota. Basic cheapest movements
Is it better than the Borealis you review several months ago?
What do you call the color? Puke green?
Polished second hand mentioned ?
It looks like a Seiko to me ...quite nice
When I saw Budget and Explorer, I came in here hoping that you'd found something on Ali/Gearbest that I could hope was going to be knocked down in the 11.11 sale. This is nice, fair enough, but something truly Budget would have been brilliant to have seen.
