Traded my IS350 for a 2015 RCF and have not looked back. Incredible car. Comfortable, reliable, and the engine note is intoxicating. Couldn’t ask for a better daily.
I think the RC-F is the only Lexus which the Spindle Grille, IMO, actually works. The IS F-sport is still polarizing (unfortunately not in a good way), the RX F-sport is laughable and the LS is questionable. The GS F-sport is better, but it doesn't have the full spindle grill yet, but I think that's better. The problem of the ~3900lb however, has to do with that Frankenstein three-way hybrid construction explained at 0:40. Sure it gains good rigidity from the IS-C, handling of the IS and space of the GS but the weight of all of them is combined. It might be OK for a RC350, but at the RC-F performance level it is disappointing. However, I still find myself drawn to this car. While this isn't as sharp as a driving tool as a BMW M4, it makes you look LESS like an actual tool; It sacrifices the last 2 tenths of performance to the BMW to make it a much better everyday driver for the rest of the 8 tenths. It is more plush, intoxicating/natural sounding V8, smooth-shifting auto combined with Lexus reliability, I can definitely see the strong appeal.
+Trades46 i agree the RCF is really heavy but tbh no one who drives the BMW or Lexus will find much of a difference in power because no one goes to a track... most people will feel the weight of the RCF though. i think the spindle grille works for all Lexus models and the IS grille is a little narrow and i actually think should adopt this grille i think it would look much better... the LS looks mean and aggressive and the RX was just redesigned and has the giant grille now and same with the GS

+alex on autos Your videos are detailed for real buyers. I think there will be no one who would contest to your reviews. Thanks for all the great work man. Cheers.
This car has the best looking front end of the cars mentioned. Love those 3cluster headlamps. Unique! Original! A great looking car. Surprised and impressed.
Beautiful car. It's a work of art I had the opportunity to see one parked and it just looks amazing. Like a mini exotic. On that note he did not mention a big selling point of this RCF over the caddy and the rest is RELIABILITY. It's like the reviews don't care how a car will be years down the line. This V8 will most likely live longer then all those turbo engines. That's a big buying point for me if I'm spending my hard earn cash I want a car that will give me as little issues as possible. That being said the German cars bore me not because their bad cars but they are typical choices. So the V or F would be my two cars to pick from. I would go with the Lex it just looks and sounds wild and I love those seats and those headlights looks badass at night time. I also think this RCF will holds it vaule better and longer then the germans. All great cars in this class but the Lexus has the most character of them all.
Toyota4Life I think car reviewers typically underplay reliability to avoid offending the car manufacturers who have so 'generously' supplied them cars to drive, free travel and accommodation . More importantly the car reviewers typically work for publications or programs almost entirely dependent on advertising from auto companies. This built in conflict of interest shortchanges the consumer looking for an objective opinion. I think Alex does a far better job than most others of discussing expected reliability in all of his reviews. BTW what do you think of Toyota having Mazda build cars for them?
Desperate4Attention I didn't go back over the edited version but in teh raw footage I do comment that it is likely to be more reliable than most. However Cadillac does score well in terms of reliability. I generally don't comment on reliability because it's usually not possible to comment on reliability of a brand new model and most of my reviews are on new cars (the nature of the business). You can get reliability scored from True Delta, Consumer Reports, etc. That said, most shoppers in surveys indicate that reliability after year 3 is not a big issue when it comes to buying. I know that sounds odd, but usually features and gadgets are far more important to new car shoppers. Safety and reliability are oddly less important to the majority of shoppers. A large reason for this is that when you look at detailed reliability numbers there is much less daylight between a reliable and unreliable brands, far less than there was even 10 years ago. Also the average shopper replaces a car after about 5 years, just out of warranty in reality. The average age of cars on the road is increasing, but that initial purchaser doesn't seem to be keeping their car that much longer than before. Lastly lease customers generally indicate that reliability is very low on their list because they don't intend to keep the car after the end of the lease.
Alex on Autos Very sound points and a very diplomatic answer in keeping with your general style. Some might say that people who don't research or value a car's reliability deserve to end up with an unreliable car. Compared to the bad old days, there are mountains of relatively objective data to be mined to help assess the likely lifespan of a vehicle. People spending their hard earned money on a car have never had more opportunities to steer away from the money pit brands which still exist out there.
Desperate4Attention Unquestionably they do, but oddly enough the real money pits are those that are more likely to be leased or short term ownership vehicles which is less of a concern for the new car buyer. There is statistically little difference between a Camry, Accord and a Malibu for instance, and the Malibu's lower purchase price helps balance things out. When it comes to things like a Range Rover or exotic car, then shoppers tend to care even less although things are even worse there.
I subscribe to Consumer Reports, which is a good source of reliability data. But I've found their reviews to be much less reliable than those on this channel. They're getting better, but my sense is that CR's reviewers are not car junkies like me, and therefore have different tastes. Bottom line: use a variety of sources when doing your pre-purchase research.
Nice review!! Thank you for mentioning that the tvd difference. In Canada we get the tvd option with all the other extras in the hiline package, no sunroof, just lots of room for your helmet at the track. My rcf is almost as quick as my s2k on a small track and still amazes me with how light i feels at limits. Keep up the good work
Looks are personal preference, but I really like this car! Had the opportunity to sit in one, no test drive yet...However, I do own the original F, a 2011 IS-F and that car is fantastic, especially the v8! I've owned a few BMW's (still have one) and they are great drivers cars, but the maintenance issues I have had always keep me away from another one :( Great channel Alex, really like what you do :)
i wish i could get the chance to drive one someday.. im getting the IS300 AWD in a year and its because of the snow where i live but they need to make another ISF like now
+James Muller IS300 is a great car too! I too hope they make an updated IS-F. I like the GS-F styling, but really curious how they would change it up with a new IS-F model.
Alex, Great review as usual. Can I suggest one thing? Many cars now days come with run flat tires and no spares or any other combo. I think it's worth noticing if car comes with run flat tires if it has no spare.
Thank you for this review, the attention to detail in the tiny things (such as the seat positions and how someone fits in them) and MANY other details you don't see from the typical review.
Just wanted to let you know that your videos just seem to be getting better and better and better. Just when I think it can't get any better you come out with a new video and tops the last one. Hands-down the most informative videos on the web thanks again.
Nice car, great review. Your ability to disseminate complicated information is impressive. I believe you have highlighted a few exhaust notes in the past. (Hellcat etc.) I think you should put a clip of the note in your underhood segment more often. It will add a dimension, even for the more pedestrian offerings. You could also present the canned notes that you explained so well not too long ago.
I love your comparisons at the end. As someone who will never drive or own a car in this class its helps my visual experience become more "real" ( and fun). Great job Scott
When I retire in five years end of 2026 this might be my go too or a 2021/22 Toyota supra 3.0 premium ! Gonna be fun comparing them ! The fact the the Toyota is basically a BMW is a major factor with dependability. So far everything I’ve seen on RUclips saying that’s not a problem.
Headlights should be one single unit, the Nike thing must be integrated on the top of the headlights. My opinion. Would you review the 2016 Subaru WRX?
Some people just prefer ATMO cars. The sound of an ATMO V8 and the quality and conservative style of a well built japanese car. One of the last truly great V8 engines of all time. Long live Toyota and LEXUS.
I wished that Lexus would have apply the full F treatment of their IS line-up (4-doors) and compete with the BMW M3, and leave the RC-F to battle it out with the M4. Essentially, bringing back the IS-F on the 3rd generation IS.

I read on forums that Lexus RC F owners (2015 model) have had a lot of problems with the fuel pump failing early on and having to replace it multiple times... Any RC F owners out there that experienced this? I was looking at used ones and see a lot of 2015's for sale (more so than the other years).
I’ve got an RC F & I’ve heard that one of the high pressure pumps with get an obvious chirping noise at idle (apparently not noticeable at higher RPM’s). Apparently these high pres pumps don’t like ethanol. Lexus was, & maybe still are replacing both pumps if the problem occurs. I only use fuel with no ethanol, I’ve had the car a couple years & approx 8,000km & haven’t had an issue.
I just can't see Lexus selling too many of the RC-F's, so many options already well established and proven at this price point. The RC 3.5L Coupe or IS C with 2.5L or 3.5L will probably outsell the RC-F at a ratio of 250:1.
Alex, you may want to refrain from shutting yourself in the trunk. I realize there is pull tab that is illuminated in the dark trunks of modern cars, but if some kid saw you do that little trick, it might seem like fun. That's OK if an adult is there to watch and take control if needed, but if a kid or two got in there alone, they might freak out???
People saying this car is more reliable than its German competition don’t get it, at this price point the folks buying this car care more about prestige and performance because money isn’t an issue.
Because a new chassis would have been a multi-million dollar investment. And, at that time, Lexus already knew that the new Lexus universal plattform was on the way. So the Mk3 version of this thing will probably be a universal plattform model.
Alex... Love your reviews, but this particular Lexus IS nowhere near a competitor to the M4... Maybe on paper, but in reality, it's back to the drawing board for Lexus. It's too heavy and handles like its wearing 300lb ankle weights. The acceleration is nice, but sluggish in comparison. I don't doubt Lexus works on it, but this "first" version is still a work in progress.
You have the best, most informative reviews. My opinion, I really dislike the spindle/hourglass grills. Great interiors but Lexus are in last place compared to all the competition to me, they look like transformer cars for kids.
Stop looking at the camera while you're driving. You are distracted enough by talking about the car while you're driving. Nice car though. How does it compare to the Q60?
Travis McMillan The only coupe that Infiniti currently has is the Q60 coupe, which does not have a high performance sport package. It would only compete against the standard Lexus RC, not the RCF.
Hi Alex, for your money, would you get this vehicle or the Corvette Stingray? I know they're not exactly the same comparison, aside from being coupes with V8s. The Corvette has always been my dream car, but this would be more agreeable with the wife (maybe, eventually), being a 4 seater from Japan.
cadsux Well, the Corvette is a very different kind of vehicle. The Lexus, BMW, Audi and Cadillac are all much more civilised than the Vette. The sharpness of the steering in the Chevy, the way the suspension is designed, etc all make the Vette more challenging to drive at or near the limit (which is obviously higher) but that also comes across as less "polished" The Lexus is also likely to be more reliable.
Arthur S The C63 sedan is turbocharged, but the last C63 coupé is naturally aspirated as there is no new C63 AMG coupé at the moment. You cannot compare sedan to coupé so the new engine in the C63 sedan isn't material to this review.
Alex i found the styling on this vehicle much too aggressive. I think the front and rear are too stylized especially (head lights and tail lights). But I am a conservative old man.
Android602715 That’s called people have a difference taste. What would happen if there’s only one auto company and only one model? What comment people would have?
The spindle grille needs to go as well as the body work that looks like it was involved in a fender bender on pretty every angle. In general these bulbous one piece front ends need to go. Its a horrible trend that audi popularized.
Terrible cheap infotainment screen for this car. Shame. Lexus really needs to do complete overhaul on their infotainment screen, software, Nav, and controls (no touch pad).
Alex, your reviews are hands-down the most comprehensive and thoughtful car reviews on RUclips or any other medium. Thank you so much.
Traded my IS350 for a 2015 RCF and have not looked back. Incredible car. Comfortable, reliable, and the engine note is intoxicating. Couldn’t ask for a better daily.
One of the best looking and performance cars from Lexus (apart from the GS-F). Very nice job Lexus. Front Led headlights are amazing.
If you retract the spoiler, I got 31 MPG highway @ 75 MPH. I love my RC F
Same here got a 2015 she is such a beast love her till death do us part lol

Driving fun of a Beemer without the worries about having it break down after the lease is over
pedrof830 ^^This guy... He gets it. Lexus kno what they are doing.

NOT the fun of a BMW, Lexus is as exciting as colored toilet paper.

I don't care if this car is not the fastest of all, it just looks good, reliable, and luxurious

Criticising the rear leg room of a car really confused me - we sit for hours on a jet with less leg room and pay for the privilege
Also, Alex- perhaps adding a curb weight graphic to the video during the engine segment would be apropos...
Lexus RC f is way better and stylish than the m4 Audi and Cadillac
No
@@thynysan bet you are driving a focus or a fiesta.
Much more stylish and is the only reliable option. That's what I'm driving!
@@smora6054 bet you'll lose that bet boy.
I love this coupe
Always liked Lexus that's a nice machine. Sick color as well

Is something different with your RC F because in Doug Demuro's review it had a trunk pass-through and had 472 hp.
The optical illusion tho. lol the rc looks huge how you positioned yourself and the camera
Best car reviewer on youtube greetings from sweden
Can you please do child seat fit in the RC-F or the RC350?
Love the looks! Like it a lot more than the M4! But, wish it had M4 performance.
Headlights should be one single unit, the Nike thing must be integrated on the top of the headlights. My opinion. Would you review the 2016 Subaru WRX?
Alex we would love to see your take on the Subaru WRX!
Some people just prefer ATMO cars.
The sound of an ATMO V8 and the quality and conservative style of a well built japanese car.
One of the last truly great V8 engines of all time.
Long live Toyota and LEXUS.
Great review as always. BTW, the embedded compare link isn't linked correctly, it brings you back to the interior.

oneoleqt Yea, it's a style choice that stopped about 5 years ago en masse.
Great video I bought a 2015 rc f in Dec I absolutely adore that car it’s incredible so gorgeous and fun not the fastest but who cares it’s a true joy
Why do they use turbos? To boost the numbers now. They don't care if the engine doesn't last as long. It'll be your problem, not theirs.
I read on forums that Lexus RC F owners (2015 model) have had a lot of problems with the fuel pump failing early on and having to replace it multiple times... Any RC F owners out there that experienced this? I was looking at used ones and see a lot of 2015's for sale (more so than the other years).

Hahahaha
i like the front and back
Alex, you may want to refrain from shutting yourself in the trunk. I realize there is pull tab that is illuminated in the dark trunks of modern cars, but if some kid saw you do that little trick, it might seem like fun. That's OK if an adult is there to watch and take control if needed, but if a kid or two got in there alone, they might freak out???
Is this a joke or are you actually being serious?
People saying this car is more reliable than its German competition don’t get it, at this price point the folks buying this car care more about prestige and performance because money isn’t an issue.
Dual injection alone makes this car superior, regardless of top speed!
Pretty Car
Love it
Why does no reviewer cover perceived reliability of Lexus over something like BMW or Cadillac?
Probably the best color for it. The design is good, but the styling struggles.
The coming Lexus SC will be much better in the styling department.
This will be an incredible used car pick up in years to come
As a new car, it is overpriced compared to lighter, better sports cars like the M4.
I like the controversial front grill, it's disappointing however that a manual transmission is not offered.
I don't like the new remote pad design, hopefully they will changed it back
I don't get why they cheaped out in this segment reusing parts of old cars that gave them a heavy frankenstein of a car.
Because a new chassis would have been a multi-million dollar investment. And, at that time, Lexus already knew that the new Lexus universal plattform was on the way. So the Mk3 version of this thing will probably be a universal plattform model.
Mashup is probably a better word than hybrid.
Alex... Love your reviews, but this particular Lexus IS nowhere near a competitor to the M4... Maybe on paper, but in reality, it's back to the drawing board for Lexus. The sharpness of the steering in the Chevy, the way the suspension is designed, etc all make the Vette more challenging to drive at or near the limit (which is obviously higher) but that also comes across as less "polished" The Lexus is also likely to be more reliable.
I want 1...
It's all right because it was a sports car made up of 3 recent Lexus models and it's reallllllly cooool.
Performance and agility; bmw wins hands down. Reliability and longevity or cost of ownership; Lexus hands down. I owned both cars.
Also the C63 is no longer naturally aspirated.
Arthur S The C63 sedan is turbocharged, but the last C63 coupé is naturally aspirated as there is no new C63 AMG coupé at the moment. You cannot compare sedan to coupé so the new engine in the C63 sedan isn't material to this review.
+Alex on Autos now there is.
Gheesh, small nav, no leather dash-plastic, old touchpad, is this a Pontiac?
GetoverYourself lexus
'Handles well*'
He said at the beginning that its no longer boring, but sadly for a performance car that does not offer a manual then for me its boring.
The Cadillac would be nowhere near the reliability of the Lexus. I love Cadillac and it was expensive to own similar but not as bad as BMW.
If it’s not a f sport then it’s not a rcf it’s just a rc right ?
Alex i found the styling on this vehicle much too aggressive. I think the front and rear are too stylized especially (head lights and tail lights). But I am a conservative old man.
Its weight is the biggest problem...
Idk why you would buy this over a bmw m4, c63, or even an audi A6 or RS5...

That’s called people have a difference taste.
What would happen if there’s only one auto company and only one model?
What comment people would have?
hahaha Trunk COMFORT?
The IS F was more impressive and a better value IMO
That was a brave cyclist.
Excellent review, more steak than sizzle, which is what I want!
The F is more reliable than all of those 😂
With the new Nissan Z bringing 500hp, what is the point of the M4, C63AMG, and this Lexus RC F? I can would take the Z, the hell with luxury.
John Vu it's a cute concept but I rather have a v8 and you should of had a v8 😂
Are people really buying cars at the dealership and asking the salesmen about the weight? Hahaha. Who the hell cares.
Imitation leather is INSULTING on this car, as base. A 30k GTI has the real deal.
This car needs manual transmission.
front looks awful it looks like it has plastic braces. AKA a teenager with a train track smile
The grill is awful, the bottom part of it should be eliminated, so it doesn't overwhelm the car,
You lied. Your 190 to 200lbs
Your 210lbs
Lexus is shockingly boring and slow.
That is one ugly duck.... It looks like they took all the 90s civic ricers and got drunk with the idea. The interior is gorgeous.
It looks so outdated on the inside.
