That's the great thing about Knoxville. In the stands or in the pits, there are no strangers. One of the few places left where you can take the whole family.
I had a 74 Vega. My first car. It had the 2300 motor with a holly 2 barrel carburetor, all factory. Aluminum mags with air stocks and micky Thompson 60s on the back. I turned 16 in 1978 and my dad bought it from a friend who bought it for his daughter brand new in 74 as a graduation present. It was loud with 1 long glass pack. I wanted to put a small block 327 in it but my dad was against it. I then wrecked it and caved the whole back panel in. I have around 100 Vegas from RUclips that are all hot rods but this one and 1 other are the only 74s I seen. They must be rare and most I have are 71 to 73.
I really wanna build a pro street vega when I get the cash. Because there affordable to buy, there rwd and mainly because there very light. Stock they weigh 2100 and change to 2200 and change. And that's very you do weight reduction. I'd love to buy one and keep the body all steel except the hood, trunk lid and bumpers. Put after market lights, seats. Take out all unessary weight like rear seats sound deadening dash door incerts etc. Then put a small lightweight aluminium 4.8l ls small block. And throw on a single 78mm turbo. Either mini tub it or back half it, would be a very cheap build and extremely fast considering the power it makes.
I learned about cars by holding a flashlight for my dad. His vega looked a little different than that one. Lol! I'd watch this video again just to hear people speak proper.
I set them a e-mail thanking them for letting me shoot what I did out there and asking them if I could get better access.....never heard back from them..
Yeah, I grew up close to this place. I can go out there on any given day and know the majority of the guys and girls in the pit. They don't rope things off and as you've seen they'll let you get right up in it. There are the rivalries but it never gets nasty. It's more like going to a car show. Everyone is out in lawn chairs taking it easy between rounds.
I will be picking up a VEGA that was driven by Bill Jenkins ( GRUMPYS TOY) in a month. I just need to make arrangements and drive to the place where its being stored, and pick it up. However, I need glue and paint cuz Its 1/25th scale . AMT is releasing this model kit soon. I will be driving to my local hobbyshop to pick it up. Lol GOTCHA !
do you ever see any chevy moza coups that was my first car was a 77 modle and my dad had a v8 75 and we a 79 we love trunk modles for some reson ,if u see on will u do a vid,on it for me? thanks man love the cars and vids thanks
"If Chevy made Vega's like this they would have sold a few." Pretty sure they sold a few back over the years they made them, they sold almost 2 million. Not many left though.
ScottieDTV yes. They are. An i actually tried to put a nose from a 77 onto a 74 about 4 years ago an then saw the size difference between the 2 vega's. An finally a year ago i found a wrecked in the rear 74 chevy vega hatch back that had a good nose on it. So i bought it fer 200 bucks an took the nose off an put it on mine an began to build it. Now i have 4 running an driving vega's in a large collection of what i call unknown valuables. My oldest vega is a 72. All original. Has a factory inline 6 with a 3 speed. Has less than 29.000 miles originally. Never rebuilt. Never needed restoration. Only needed tires fluids an a cleaning an readjustment of the carberator. An i had a all original running driving 72 vega. My first vega. Got it fer 700 bucks. Baby blue with the white pleather interior. Has its original spare wheel an tire an tools an jack an a set of 2 spare hubcaps an 2 beauty rings that woulda been found fresh off the dealerships lot. I got her from the original owner who claimed the engine was seized. Within 4 hours of bein in my barn it was runnin. I have been offered 25.000 bucks at a car show for my car. Which shows 29.595 miles at the time. Which im told makes it valuable to collectors. Its like a lil time capsule. No ac. Has heat vent off the engine. An an am/fm radio. Which is original from grumby chevrolet in waco texas 1972. I gotta feelin its worth more than 25k. An eventually maybe more. What do you think ScottieD?

"If Chevy made Vega's like this they would have sold a few." Pretty sure they sold a few back over the years they made them, they sold almost 2 million. Not many left though.
They have gotten cooler with age for sure...They were junk from the factory though...
I think being rarer helps, I was telling some young guys about having a badass vega and they had to google it, they had no idea what a Vega was.
lol....This next generation is clueless about anything that is not put right in front of them...
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PART OF THAT IS WHAT IS SAYS IN THE REAR ... "JESUS SAVES" ... AMEN ... )))
Right on!
I would have to say, if you contacted the owners before hand they would probably grant you the access.
Hey this vega crashed last saturday at knoxville dragstrip and is totaled
Caleb Painter Hate to hear that!
+Caleb Painter Terrible news. That's a beautiful ride.
Caleb Painter I just seen this car at the million dollar race, it's still around....
If its a 74 why does it got a nose off a 77? A nose off a 77 vega wont fit on a 74. The 77 is an inch wider at either side of the body.
I just shoot the videos....
ScottieDTV kool. I own 4 vega's. :)
They are cool Cars now...lol...
ScottieDTV yes. They are. An i actually tried to put a nose from a 77 onto a 74 about 4 years ago an then saw the size difference between the 2 vega's.
