GLOWFLY, the final pedal needs ToP Jacks and also add a bunch of controls for tape slicing effects and tape dropouts per each loop cycle or repeat. Add a 2nd footswitch to TAP how many tape slices per repeat
Interesting ideas.. Slicing like Splicing? so there's a pop where the waveform jumps? And dropouts like the sound cuts out briefly? I'm working on something with this kind of doprout actually.. This pedal is finished, it's been out a while, and it's intentionally minimalistic but I like your ideas!
@@glowfly Yes having controls to adjust the Splicing curves because in the cutting rooms you can cut the tape in all types of angles to get different splicing effects which is slicing up the direct audio or echo audio. The Dropouts will cut out briefly. All of these artifacts of tape are considered broken tape machine effects because that is what makes it sound more vintage and analog. Example most delay echo units don't have any splices or slicing of the audio so it doesn't sound real or like a real old used tape wear and tear. Adding controls of the cutting room will help out a lot. example is how many splices do you want per echo or feedback repeat? do you want one splice or 10 splices at what intervals apart, so the splices have time gaps set at different intervals which they each splice can have different drop out curves profile signature curves. You would need to add a 2nd footswitch to TAP the NUMBER of splices and GAPS intervals of the splices. I hope you can make something like this with added tape hiss
These are the diodes I use, they're the ones I designed the circuit with. Listed as 1n34a but clearly not, possibly BAT_ something? Maybe you can figure it out from the Vf figures, I'm not really a diode expert! www.bitsboxuk.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=140_141_142&products_id=3521
wow! another cool pt2399 project. i like to mess too with that chip, wich is so great and fun to experiment with. very cool you share the schematic, is it your invention? kind of dig that very rudimentary envelope follower wich is perfect for an effect like this. Like it!!
Thanks! Yeah it's an original circuit. PT2399s are great fun, i was just thinking of designing a white noise generator with one, they seem to excel at that! If you plan on building one of these tape sims, I'd recommend socketing the JFET and trying a few, otherwise I have PCBs / diodes / tested FETs I can sell as a kit if you fancy
These are the diodes I've always used in the Retroflect, they're included in the DIY kit. They're 1n34a work-a-likes but the shop doesn't say what they actually are! www.bitsboxuk.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=140_141_142&products_id=3521
@glowfly oh ok .Thank you . Text In the shop say germanium 1N34A but on the picture is silicon diode . I made this schema yesterday with BAT 46 which is very close to 1N34A but the modulation wave and " tail" is not that big as I expected . Sure I use trimpot ... but... in your videos is more modulation sound I think .
Sounds great! I'd say you nailed the tape speed warbly sound.

Does this need to be a 1N34A diode or is there an alternative that could be used?

I live in America, will I be able to buy one of these kits?
@@willfowler8540 I haven't found a country I can't ship to yet!
sorry for late reply i don't always get notifications :/
Sounds cool. Will try and build this.
hi. can I use some equivalent for 1N34A ???? ty

Hello! Could I have a parts list please?
sure! wraalabs.wixsite.com/pedals/single-post/retroflect-build-guide
