  • @ranchosdelnorte

That was Casey's "IMA MAKE EM BOFF" equivalent
The 2 major things wrong with what you said at the time:
    1. Calling him a bad or average at best defender, you can maybe say that about being a rim protector but too many people only focus on blocks when there is much more to defense than that. Jokic is one of the best defensive rebounders and usually leads all big men in steals. Jokic has quick hands and his understanding of the game allows him and his teammates to be in the right place, plus he usually can deter players with his size and presence alone. You can't argue with results, and they show he had a better defensive rating than Embiid and Giannis last year and this year was only a 1pt difference from Embiid's despite people acting as if they were miles apart.
    2. Saying he is only a regular season player is also a trash take because it means you don't actually look at what he does in the playoffs, only his team's results. A regular season player is someone who plays great in the regular season but doesn't live up to that level in the playoffs (cough* Embiid). A player can be the best performer in the playoffs and still lose due to lack of help or health on their team or just simply who they run into. Even before this year, Jokic had the best playoff numbers of any current player besides Giannis, Jokic is someone who every year has elevated his playoff numbers past what they were in the regular season, and when he goes out he goes out swinging and losing only to the best teams. The 3 previous teams that eliminated him all went to the finals and 2 of them won the whole thing, it's not like he had lost to an inferior team and is never the reason why they lost.

Nuggets had 4th best defence in playoffs, a huge improvement over regular season.
Jokic & MPJ improved their defensive effort astronomically to lead the team to the title.
Of course, he has some defensive limitations, but the Nuggets solved those issues by intelligent & well executed defensive schemes.
Even Booker came out saying that Jokic is actually a hell of a defender, after their series.
Jokic averaged over 40 min/game vs Lakers and clamped down on AD. Then clamped down Bam. One can argue that Jokic played better defence against AD than the other way around.

People still don't think murray is great but I'm telling you, he gets that look in eye like kobe and Jordan did. That locked in killer look. He hits big shots in big moments, he plays better under brighter lights. Them winning a ring his first year back is the best I told you so to all those nuggets haters. Here's my next prediction, Braun could possibly be the next ginobli. High energy, tenacious defense, the ability to drive through traffic and get a shot or find an open man, fringe guy that could be a starter, but would also be willing to be the 6th man. He just needs to improve his 3 and he could have a borderline hall of fame career

Nikola's defense has really evolved over the last season and a half or so, where he recognizes his weaknesses on defense and adapted his game to account for them in order to improve his defense overall. He isn't remotely fast enough or light enough on his feed to react and shift position including in the post without fouling, he does have a fouling issue, and he's overall not great defensively, and can easily get exploited because of it. He also likes to play both sides very physically, which modern day rules make into a detriment, much to my strong peeve. So what does he do? He see these things, and adapts to where he sets the record for the most kick ball violations in single season history for a single player. In the playoffs, that helped him and the entire team defensively to a ridiculous extent.
Long story short, you were never entirely wrong in this take.

Being fair, I still think you have some things wrong. Jokic has great defensive instincts. It is basketball IQ. He knows what is going to happen. He does not hgave lateral quickness to prevent some of those things, and he opts not to contest at the rim to avoid foul trouble.
And as for who Jokic went against... C'mon now. Rudy Gobert. Deandre Ayton (and "injured" Suns? KD, Booker and Ayton were playing). Anthony Davis! Bam Adebayo! That is one of the toughest possible runs at C. Look at ALL the takes before the series, and everyone was saying "they solved Jokic", "AD will stop him", "Gobert will be a problem" (and, don't be mistaken, as Bruce Brown said, the TWolves was our toughest series!), etc.

Basketball is a game where you win by scoring more points than your opponent if you were unstoppable, even if they were unstoppable and at the end of the game, do you have more points you still win?

Great vid! I’d argue that jokic actually does have a very good defensive IQ and positioning, just slow feet and athleticism to make him an outstanding defender. His lack of athleticism contributes to his longevity/endurance, so it helps his game more than it hurts it

For the first bad take, no one really anticipated that. And since defensive plays outside of blocks and steals are not really "highlighs", we rarely see Jokic's defensive impact only until we're actually given the numbers and find that he's apparently a positive on the defensive end.
Hindsight-wise, given Jokic's high IQ and godly court vision, it becomes less and less suprising how well Jokic's defense is in pick coverage and help defense. With his size and strength too.

Jokic doesn't play defense on some plays but he makes a lot of defensive game changing plays when it counts most. His advanced defensive stats are quite good.

    "Worst MVP since Dave Cowens"???
NOT Westbrick's stat padding pity party??
    NOT Steve Nash's 2nd???
Or others that won MVP but not the ring in that same year??
Not even David Robinson getting cooked by Hakeem for "stealing" his MVP.?!?

Bro! I though this was a main channel vid that I forgot to watch. You need to upload more of these videos where you are kind of just talking unscripted to the camera on this channel. Bad take lol but keep up the work (I had the same take a year ago dont tell anyone)
