what i love about jean shephard he can stop your world dead in it's tracks, take you away if for just a short time, and upon your return are the better person. thank you for sharing this video.
Right, there are stupid comments. . hazards of You Tube. What is remarkable about this is his simple love for his subject, free from the tiresome need to be taken seriously or make important statements.
He made the occasional homophobic remark in his writing as well....the most egregious was when he wrote "Then there are some men who simply refuse to grow up, who remain children forever. These are known as 'fags' or, if in polite company, 'homosexuals'." There was also the occasional lisping effeminate character. And I don't care a bit, even being a gay-friendly guy who lives in a neighborhood where there are drag acts at least four nights a week. I'm certainly not thrilled by those remarks, but I refuse to condemn him completely for them. Not to mention that his attitudes were a lot more common back in those days.
You can find many of them on The Internet Archives, but I find searching the site a little inaccurate. Also go to Flick Lives.com for lots of content and information. There are many people on Ebay selling his shows, but some searching the net will get you most of what is available. I have several other Shep videos on RUclips as well.
Finispshellnut Yeah you got three or four podcasts dedicated to him. Mass Backwards is on if not dedicatedly him it’s definitely top heavy with Shep. Then you have The Brass Figallee.
Thanks for posting this...I live in Savannah but am from the midwest...the Old South never appealed to me. But this show brings out the natural beauty and agriculture and sorrow in a special way. The slave narratives in the Lof Congress are wonderful to read...not at all predictable. Those old freed slaves could really size white people up...mostly Golden Rule decent people and really mean ones...little in between, which surprised me. You will start thinking like those blacks...world view.
Great storyteller, yea, but to memorialize a hate-filled self-aggrandizing slave-holding culture is grossly obscene. This one video undoes all the great other stories he wrote & told. I can't listen to or read another without wanting to vomit knowing how he honored these degenerates.
So one video undid everything else. You sound like the kind of person who would needle their kid for missing 5 points out of 100 on a test, even if they still got an A. Nobody's perfect, but hey, if you want to quit reading or listening to Shep, it's no skin off our ass.
Shep's voice and style was mesmerizing. A unique brilliant radio personality.

Shep’s the Best... Excelsior. !
I knew there'd be some stupid comments on this one. Shep was one of American's great storytellers.

Shep makes quite the dapper dude, a Southern dandy.

It has nothing to do with it. He heard the first minute and was compelled to comment.
Sorry, I was mistaken. He only does the introduction to the manual.
Have you ever heard his reading of the Morse Code Instruction manual?
No, I'd love to
