Glad we found you. Here in south Texas, USA, a few years ago we planted a piece of lemongrass from the local, asian market and we now have an enormous bush but we still didn't know how to use it in our food! Thanks for this practical advice. We traveled to Indonesia 10 years ago and still remember and discuss those wonderful memories of warm, friendly people, beautiful islands and water, magical Bali, and the many, many delicious meals we had. Now we must go out to that bush and harvest a stem and cook! Thanks very much.

Absolutely love your easygoing delivery and incredibly helpful information. I've been growing a small lemongrass plant and was wondering what to start doing with it. Now I know. Thank you!

Love your folksy introduction to lemongrass. I grow it in a cold frame and enjoy making a lemongrass tea , and of course in curries. When I immigrated to the U.S. 40 years ago, I brought some dried lemon grass with me in my suitcase!

very good..... thank you. I live in Florida. I have SO much lemongrass that is 4 feet tall that I can't use because it has all been growing together too tightly for forty years. I finely hired somebody to dig it up and cut it back (I said a prayer to the the lemongrass gods because I felt bad. It was beautiful swaying in the breeze. I divided it and shared it with friends.
Within a few days the root clumps I put in water started sprouted startling growth and fresh roots. I was so happy it wasn't angry with me for what I'd done. Your video is delightful. Thank you

That is so kind of you , talking to the plants. At some point they become us and we become them . Lemongrass in India is not an easy herb to find always so whenever I find a lot of them in the market I freeze them for later use. Thank you for the lovely comment and I am glad you found it useful :)

I am in FL as well, similar experience. I learned not to plant it into the ground soil directly, for that reason. I have it growing in the front yd landscape. I dug a hole large enough to place an empty pot into it and then place a pot with lemon grass in a pot inside the empty pot. This contains it, but it still is a challenge to get to harvest, as it is a prolific grower and gets root bound in the pot. Just couple of days ago I wrestled with it, had to cut the plastic pot in half and remove the big clump of the lemon grass. Soaking it to tear it apart, and planing to put no more than 5 individual stalks in to a pot, similar as was showed in this video. I typically harvest in the late fall, make bundles from the greens after I dried them, but thinly slice up the bottom white part while fresh and freeze it. Love putting the dried green bundle into stocks and in making mixed herbal tea concoction to flavor my drinking water. Did not get to do the harvest last fall, that’s why I had this huge clump and the struggle. Live and learn😊.

Lemongrass does not usually need pesticide, it's essential oil is inherently an insect repellent.

Hi, May I know how to wash lemongrass leaves? As I know it is sharp enough to get "paper" cuts. I wonder how tye leaves are washed before using it in teas. TIA.
