I can remember being her with my husband when the ships docked. He loved to watch them. He died 5 years ago, so thank you for the memories. I have never witnessed a Greek ferry make a mistake. I know they have..like they all have...but I'll stick with my happy memories.
I don't understand what everyone is expecting from this video. I see a perfectly executed docking procedure of a ship I really miss. Thanks to the uploader for uploading this video.
Agreed. Too many feeble minded viewers expecting a crash, even though the title is quite clear. RUclips is much more than vehicles crashing. I've been on this ferry and it brought back good memories for me.
Peter Sawyer Exactly, the title was perfectly clear, it's showing a docking procedure (and there are lots of videos on RUclips with ships docking without an accident). I've been on that ship (as well as its sister ship) lots of times and I fondly remember watching them dock from the decks.
Man i am come a bit later on this comments :D in my opinion this video just gimme statisfaction just like how other people statisfied if some crash happened.
When I posted this video there was no intention to make any statement about safety or whether it was dangerous. All I wanted to show was an interesting docking maneuver. I am surprised about the controversy it apparently created. Very interesting
minoan lines exist from 1972 connecting Pireaus with greek islands(specially creta) and also Greece with Italy...Its captains are the most experienced and this ferry line has been awarded a lot times for the best - safe-quality trips and services from european and worldwide awards for the meditteranean sea cruise services!!
So? These Greek ferry skippers know what they’re doing. I’ve watched them come into the bay in Skopelos, toss their anchor, turn 180 degrees on that anchor chain and back onto the pier in matter of minutes. Elegant and efficient!
It's called a "Mediterranean Moor" when they tie up to a pier from the aft end. Usually ships like this will also use a secondary anchor at the bottom of the ship (vice the bow) and it probably uses azipods for directional control.
As someone who has experienced a Corfu ferry docking, I approve this video. Best wishes to the good fold of Corfu, to the memory of _My Family and other Animals_ by Gerald Durell, and to all seafolk everywhere, cheers from cool Vienna, Scott
I have to say the Greek ferries are some of the best in the world. And I'm Dutch and have no connection to Greece except having been there on holidays. I have been on many other ferries in Canada, US, UK, Scandinavia, Caribean and NZ, so I have quite a bit of comparison.
that's funny. Because in my mind, if you work at sea, you will ALWAYS be exposed to dangerous working conditions. and much more dangerous conditions than standing at the end of a boom at that too.
@hbarkan Usually people don´t understand meaning of haste when commenting. If crew doesn´t put rails up before landing to pier passengers will drop to ocean. There was accident in northern europe where passengers were in hurry and walking tunnel was 5 meters away when ships doors opened, there were about 10 people who dropped to pier. Luckily no one died. and after that accident protocol was chanced that door are closed untill walking tunnel is connected.
@vascocourtney Err yes you do.Besides the only way this ship can be compromised with the current weather and wind conditions is if it was rammed by a similar sized ship. And i cant see any incoming. The Zebrugge ferry only capsised as the bow wave grew to a big enough height and entered the deck, with the doors open, thus destabilising the ship due to weight of water. That is simply not going to happen in this case.
These ships for many years doing the route Greece-Italy and never heard anything bad. So, depending on passenger ships other European countries the accidents was zero. I do not understand the negative comments.
@vascocourtney Actually I can remember Viking and Silja Line ships arriving harbor the visor up or ramps down during the 70's. It might have been as late as during the 80's when I was as kid with my bicycle on the car deck waiting for arrival in Turku or Mariehamn. Here I can see a risk of crashing the ramps or a deckhand falling to the sea and in the worst case getting sucked to the propellers. Time is money for shipowners but able seamen are expensive, too....
That's impressive. I would have thought that the stern of the ship would have bumped the dock, but no. I'll have to see if I can catch a ride on that ship.
I love the fact that, at the time of watching, almost 6.8 million people have seen this video. Doncha just love the Internet? ;-) Fab island, cute video - hope they let the dog on
Actually, he was planting a suitcase bomb next to the ferry. Notice he dropped it and walked away looking back. The guy filming cut the camera off just a few minutes too early. Hey, if nothing happens, you've got to make up your own story. Lol.
^^... I thought to find a dramatic video about a crash docking, with screaming men, women, children and old in water, gasoline in fire, huge waves, helicopters, firefighters, coast guard, army, air force, with bad weather with bolts and lightnings, while a giant squid winds slimy tentacles around ferry and docks.I was wrong.
Because it's docking? And for a ship to be named H/S/F(Highspeed ferry)it should be able to get a speed of up to 27 knots. The Palaces can get to 33 knots in max.
For all their irrelevants to ask why this video has so many millions of viewers I have to say it. First, why the title begins from Corfu (tourist destination), second because millions of people have great love for ships and the third that the approach of a ship in a port differs from place to place. Thanks for sharing Harry!
i am greek...from crete island....some people saw first time sea on their holiday in greece....i donot surpice of thiw video but from your cooments about life jucket of the crew!!!
you are correct. Greece has so many islands and coasts (actually Greece has a longer coastline than the whole Africa), that it is only natural for Greeks to have a big naval history
Like the other three million viewers, I was waiting for something to go wrong... Of course, no such claims were made in the title so why should I be disappointed?
Likewise; I just enjoyed watching the thing work properly, even if it looks a bit unconventional compared with what I'm used to. As for people thinking it's slow...
3:19 I'm surprised they stand so close to that pinch/crush point. IF there were to slip while that thing was bouncing and any part of their body fell in there it probably not end well.
I love the Greeks , they are so FUCKING COOL Nothing troubles them so laid back people ;) Gonna retire there one day............................... "Yamas"
Funny how there's always one member of the crew on the ramp who thinks he doesn't need a life vest? and he's probably the one who would sack the others if they didn't have theirs on!
importedmusic MrWhizNutz Same for me. But go back and take a look at the video thumbnail : If you look at it quickly, you can see a big fat ferry going backwards and pushing a small boat to crush it on the dock. :)
@vascocourtney I have seen landing ramps, but I thought it was only made for high speed craft. But do not expect security level in the third world. If you look at how they park their cars in a smaller ship would go crazy mirror to mirror. And the rule says that "should leave space for wheeled fire extinguisher." But you can say: here is Greece !!!!!!!!!!!
I can remember being her with my husband when the ships docked. He loved to watch them. He died 5 years ago, so thank you for the memories. I have never witnessed a Greek ferry make a mistake. I know they have..like they all have...but I'll stick with my happy memories.
halo there lady

You two please kindly read my comment above! The mooring men are doing wrong!

just the type of good old youtube videos, a short title with a short compact video
.

best bit is 1:20 when the man tosses a rope. Forget all the GPS, sat nav, etc., it's all down to throwing ropes!
Great video. I've seen canal longboats here in the uk held fast by ropes. This ship is a lot bigger! Well done to the well trained crew!
Narrowboats, not longboats - they were used by the Vikings.
As someone who has experienced a Corfu ferry docking, I approve this video.

you for your comment
Fantastic and interesting!

I read the comments... and STILL watched it... how sad !?
Thank you for the update.
@hbarkan your video is perfect! i love this video i seen it every day!
Oh this is bringing up memories of my vocation at Corfu what a great time it was!

@zarquon53 so Minoan Lines sailing only around Crete??
that's funny. Because in my mind, if you work at sea, you will ALWAYS be exposed to dangerous working conditions. and much more dangerous conditions than standing at the end of a boom at that too.
greece is an amazing place
Thank you for the video.

@hbarkan what for u need the inspector?? for the docking??
That's impressive. I would have thought that the stern of the ship would have bumped the dock, but no. I'll have to see if I can catch a ride on that ship.
im planing to visit cofru this summer, how much does the ferry cost
I love the fact that, at the time of watching, almost 6.8 million people have seen this video. Doncha just love the Internet? ;-) Fab island, cute video - hope they let the dog on
The process was long but it is good to know ppl take complete safe precations
When did anyone say that it is a big deal?
The video has a great quality of image.
Nice calm sea. What's it like on a bad day?
Glad I got to see a safe dockingFINALLY¬ a disaster
Harry bless you for this upload - reading the comments made me laugh out loud. Priceless...:-)
wow, phenomenal, how do they do it?
This took some bloody guts!!
I didn't realise ferry docking drew such big crowds.
5.3 million views I was expecting alot more but the title didn't lie.
Ahhhh..Corfu, where the ISPS code is somebody else's problem. Love it! Also where is the dog that catches the mooring lines?
I liked it! That was interesting. Don't get to see things like that where I live.
That was like watching the paint dry.
The stray dog, hope he finds a home.
Wow a ferry docking 😳
Nossa tem pessoas devem ser bem a alto caramba uff legal ver navios nunca vi de perto 😣um
this video changed my life
Lol. Im now intrested in ships
Goodness me, what kind of life you were living if a boring video of a routine mooring changed it!
Maloy7800 No offence but what kind of a sense of humor do you have if you can't get a simple joke?
+Maloy7800 dude it's just a joke🙄
Paul O'Neill, Jeevana, so it's ME who doesn't have a sense of humor? Ooookay.
@vascocourtney If you think this ship is underway you are out of your mind, it is docking
Only accident is at 3:19 The man with the suitcase tripping :-D
Actually, he was planting a suitcase bomb next to the ferry. Notice he dropped it and walked away looking back. The guy filming cut the camera off just a few minutes too early. Hey, if nothing happens, you've got to make up your own story. Lol.

No accident???

I was thinking the exact same thing😂
The previous post was for juusojd
Wow, that was a action packed slot, I was waiting for something to happen??
It's still getting ppl to do the same 7 years after you saw it.
In which vessel are you?
Because it's docking? And for a ship to be named H/S/F(Highspeed ferry)it should be able to get a speed of up to 27 knots. The Palaces can get to 33 knots in max.
thats some damned efficient docking...
that shit takes forever...

you are correct. Greece has so many islands and coasts (actually Greece has a longer coastline than the whole Africa), that it is only natural for Greeks to have a big naval history
Great video
Nice video!

Обожаю Грецию 😍😍
those men aren't even a little bit scared of falling xd
No multi-million dollars terminal needed. Just simple good seamanship and good designed of ship.
Like the other three million viewers, I was waiting for something to go wrong... Of course, no such claims were made in the title so why should I be disappointed?
Cuerpos pintados
Nice job Capn
what for a camera is this?
Port?
Video taken from Azamara Quest
It was great at corfu at holidays
Likewise; I just enjoyed watching the thing work properly, even if it looks a bit unconventional compared with what I'm used to. As for people thinking it's slow...
This is insane!!!
Ok bertha I will bless you

Hay momentos ke parece sonar AC⚡DC ...
🎸🤘🎸👍🎸🔥🎸⚡🎸
I apologise...I was thinking of another docking I watched previously, this one was fine.
Don't worry. That boat goes to Venice, Italy.
Perfekt!👍👏🇩🇪
Funny how there's always one member of the crew on the ramp who thinks he doesn't need a life vest? and he's probably the one who would sack the others if they didn't have theirs on!
I really missed riding on a ship
ahh. I wanted to watch the unloading and loading. ...
Why am I watching this?
Same here it just came up! I thought something exciting would happen but it was literally just docking!
importedmusic MrWhizNutz Same for me. But go back and take a look at the video thumbnail : If you look at it quickly, you can see a big fat ferry going backwards and pushing a small boat to crush it on the dock. :)
kxdser
Who's watching this in 2019. Well, someone had to say it.
9 Million Klicks for this Video - can‘ t believe in !!
The camera was Panasonic Lumix Model: DMC TZ5
In what country is this?
@Bougas1999 thanks for answering
I actually came to see ferry docking. I am a boring person
It's saturday night and that's what I'm doing...I know that feeling.
sahiblindberg ii
Well, I thought is was interesting as I am in a land locked state and don't see ferrys docking every day.
