Why did Jesus Christ come to earth? Pastor Colin Smith preached the sermon titled "To Fulfill the Law" from Matthew 5:17-20 during Christmas season 2020.
    Matthew 10:34-39 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."
Open the Bible is the teaching ministry of Pastor Colin Smith. Our mission is to use a broad array of modern media to help people around the world meet Jesus. We do this by opening the Bible for them, helping them open the Bible themselves, and equipping them to open the Bible with others.

LOVE this interpretation! Jesus' coming brought sword between those in Him and those against, His coming was sure to bring division and not peace, you have soooo helped me to understand this seemingly alarming passage, thank you!

A sword means that he came to divide people to those who believe in him and to those who don´t believe in him. When a son or a daughter comes in faith and if their parents (for example) are atheists... so that divides the family.

I (Kevin, Open the Bible staff) remember that Pastor Colin said one time that he really liked 2 Timothy 1:12, "But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me." God bless!

Damn, I did not know Jesus was an elder god. He wants us to do Mortal Kombat on each other.
