Today I harvested Early Purple Vienna Kholrabi! I started these on Sept 10th 2023 from seeds I bought from Baker Creek. For reasons unknown, they took a long time to grow. It may have been because I started the seeds too late (should have started them in August) and by the time I planted them out in the garden in early October they did not get enough sun. Once I harvested them I washed them thoroughly, stripped off the leaves and chopped the leaves up (got a gallon bag packed with leaves) and peeled and chopped the bulb and ended up with about a cup of diced kohlrabi. The greens can be cooked like you would collards or turnip greens. The diced kholrabi has the texture of broccoli stem but a very unique flavor that is sweet, peppery, and slightly bitter. Different then anything I've ever tasted before. My plan is to roast them.
