    Biggest weakness, combat robots. A eventfully exploited weakness, that is a combination of their fanaticism and technophobia, is that they went psychotic at droids and YVH - series battle droids owned them.
    Plus their weapons were mostly toxic which had no effect on droids, which seems strange for a race that hates AI and had fought it in their home galaxy. Fanatical anti technologist that have no really effect hand weapons against machine races seems a bit of a oversight.
    They're lucky they didn't run into the Cylons.

      Weapons development follows your projected enemy capabilities.
      If we fought giant bugs, armies would be armed with flamethrowers, if we fought slugs we would have salt grenades.
      When the vong fought robots, they likely had mechanical weapons. Later, over generations, they got rid of their hated machines.
      They could not prepare for the next war, because they had nothing to expect but the unexpected, and fanatics are pretty bad at seeing alternatives, ok?
      What they could expect was lifeforms, and most importantly, they fought each other.
      Real life example: A battleship, tank, whatever, should be able to survive its own main gun in two thirds of cases.
      Its OWN gun. Thats what they did. They did not innovate, it was heretic, but they did improve, a bit, something slightly more suitable to win a fight. You know, no changes, but "variations". A lighter stock here, a longer barrel there, larger or smaller clips... you know "personal touches"
      So things changed, or "evolved", as the vong would say. But evolution, as always, is not proactive, its reactive. It changes according to environment, not expected threats. So weapon choices, weapon and armor evolution, tactics, all developed to fight yuuzhan vong who favored a certain kind of philosophy.
      This made ranged weapons so despised. You cant have a proper duel with guns, and if you do, someone is probably going to die, and soon you have no army.
      No paintballs or lasers,its heresy, ok.
      So their development was preordained by their circumstances and philosophy. You can even predict the type of weapons used knowing the situation they started from.

      Damn right, those YVH droids were bloody incredible asskickers. It's too bad a lot of the Clone Wars era stuff was either lost or ignored though, cause I'm pretty sure the shielded Destroyer Droids would have ripped some Vong to pieces pretty easily as well.

      In case of vong, physical manipulation would still work normally. Their minds are invisible to the force, but not non-existent.
      Basically normal anti-invisibility tricks would work, so targeted or two way communications dont work, but if something simple, such as fear could be sent in a wave or burst like pattern, it would have, theoretically normal though diminished effect. • @YouCaughtCzars
    @YouCaughtCzars 5 лет назад +43

    I've honestly always looked at the Vong as a plot-armour protected and unearned threat to the galaxy that literally came out of nowhere to fill a narrative void left by the defeat of the Empire and the writers just came up with something way different so they didn't look like they were reskinning the Empire. A bunch of edgy melee-focused sadists who swing snakes at people and think technology is vile should have been easily destroyed in first contact; the writers however deem that the Vong miraculously had armour and weapons that resisted basically every weapon in the Star Wars galaxy and had them take Coruscant quickly to establish them as a credible threat. Oh, and they're somehow not a part of the force so that nerfs Jedi.
    Thing is, it's like how in a zombie series they never show the outbreak; you always end up seeing the zombie apocalypse well after it's overrun civilization. Let's be honest, a handful of mindless monsters would be dealt with relatively quickly, not get so out of hand that the world is overrun by the walking dead.

    • @MUJUNKY
      @MUJUNKY 5 лет назад +8

      The main reason the Vong cut a swath through the galaxy so quickly wasn't because they were such better fighters or because their weapons tech worked differently, it was because they were dead set on conquering, where as the New Republic and Imperial Remnant had just finished up a twenty five year long slugging match, not a single faction in the star wars galaxy was ready for a war like that. as far as the not being part of the force thing, yeah, thats kind of weak, they should have thought that through a little better, like they were resistant to it (like the ysalmiri)

    • @marshmellowmoon7990

      Imma say it,
      Midichlorians explain why the Vong weren't effected or sensed by the force
      If Midichlorians are just mitochondria that make the force, it can be assumed that they might only exist in the star wars galaxy, as Obi Wan said it binds the _Galaxy_ together not the Universe, so it might not be a universal force but just exist in the star wars galaxy meaning that the Vong, who are from a different galaxy and wouldn't have midichlorians, wouldn't be effected by the force. But the whole being abandoned by the force was dumb because I don't think the force would abandon an entire species, one person makes sense, but an entire species is a bit much.

    Something interesting about the Doven Basals, the way the NR ended up countering them was by firing extremely rapid, but low power shots spread out over a wide area, so the Dovin Basal had to project a wide, fairly weak field to intercept them, at random a program in the X-wing fire computers would shoot full power bolts at the Vong ships, and the doven basal field would be too weak to catch it, resulting in the Basal exploding. after knocking out all the basals, most vong ships were very, very inferior to XJ5's, with their only saving grace being the heavy armor, as the basals also provided extra propulsion when not blocking enemy fire.

      yea in 40k these would barely qualify as minor xenos as they would be so weak relative to everything else in 40k ..... i doubt they would ever make it off their own home planet before being purged or worse.
      a decent ork waaaagh alone would be enough to wipe out the Yuuzhan Vong in the SW universe while also kicking the shit out of the galactic natives like the new republic ..... mostly because of crazy shit like red ones go faster being a very literal thing with the orks simply because they believe it to be so.

    Even with all the flaws and eventual defeat of the Yuuzhan Vong in the EU. The Vong would very easily take over and defeat both the New Republic and First Order in the new canon.

    I’be not read the New Jedi trilogy through I know the basics of the Vong from Wookipedia.
    It’s a cool story and I like the fact the Vong was deadly enough to force the New Republic and Empire into an alliance. However, I think the writers tried to hard to sell the bio-technology theme of their culture into every facet of their culture.
    Starfighters that fire rocks, it’s just to ridiculous to envisage.
    I think they would have been better selling the Vong perhaps as something like Borg from Star Trek or the Strogg from Quake. A bastardised fusion of advanced cyborg machinery over bio-engineered supersoldiers.
    It would still be cool to see a similar threat force the First Order and Republic into an alliance.

    The Yuuzahn Vongs biggest flaw by far is their predictability. They are heavy on religion. If you know their religious code then you can predict how they will react. You can bait them by insulting their Gods. This is why Jaina was so successful with the ' Trickster' method

    When the Xenos hordes come to invade Earth, we will be ready, and Allen shall lead us. What most people don't know is that 'Allen' is merely a pseudonym, an identity assumed by a being that has already guided and protected human kind in various different guises for thousands of years. Come the hour of humanity's greatest need, come the day when he leads us all to glory, he will called by another name. He will be known simply as... the Emperor....

      I feel that. I was first allured by the concept with the Serpentor storyline from "GI Joe" in the 80's. It made me think differently about things. I recall thinking that John Carpenter's "The Thing" was probably a weapon for relatively cheap, relatively non destructive planet cleaning. Naturally only if the "stuff" had a killswitch.
