The more points you get per second, the higher your rank.
If you want an X-rank, you also have to avoid getting hit three times.

the tutorial is the first level and also if you don't know what you're doing then just go right like any other game
Hollow City will teach you all the mechanics you need to know to get through the levels. There will even be button prompts.
