Yup. My 4 y/o female German Shepherd got an ear infection 1st week of December. It looked just like what you have here. I had to use drops into her ears and antibiotics for 11 days. Her walking returned to normal in about 10 days or so. Her eyes had the same sweeping & twitching movements for about 7-10 days. To me, it looked neurological, but it was just as the vet said. Good luck, and keep up with any medications he has.

Just stay positive, lil mama. Owning animals, you find out a lot about infections and diseases of all types. For the most part they recover with proper treatment. Ive had many different animals over my young life. From horses, cows, pigs, dogs, chickens, cats, ferrets, snakes, lizards, parrots etc etc. Sometimes they come down with things. Sometimes it can be scary especially when its something yer not familiar with. But he will most likely be ok.
Stay positive, and make sure to keep him hydrated.

I’ve had dogs my whole life and have seen ear infections in them before. It can affect their equilibrium so their balance is off. This would account for the “drunken” walking and disorientation. Also, brachycephalic dogs tend to have a disposition to inner ear and nasal issues. One thing that can affect them is a build up of fluid in the middle ear. This could possibly be putting pressure on nerves causing the twitching.? With the extreme weather changes lately (cold to warm and back), along with seasonal allergies it could be causing some of your pups issues. You may talk to your vet, believe it or not, dogs can be treated with Zyrtec or Benadryl to help with allergy symptoms. The dosage would depend on age and weight.

When an human being is in certain amount of stress, their emotions and imagination bring the worst of him/her, dont let them control you mind, your mind and logic should control those emotions and imagination, it this hard, but try it. You did the medical investigation and the doctor said the dog is gonna be alright, trust the doctor and have faith in the universe that everything is gonna be alright sooner or later.

Hi Irina. I know it’s scary as hell and we hurt when they hurt, but neither the twitching nor the balance issues are uncommon with an ear infection. Hopefully the vet gave you antibiotics for Montana. Just make sure he gets them as instructed and your boy should be better soon. You *should* be able to smell an odor if you put your nose down close to his ears that’s kinda like rotten cheese or something. The vet should have given you some fluid to flush and clean out his ears as well. That will help with the odor and speed up healing of the infection. In know your vet said 2 weeks, but if you don’t see significant improvement in 5-7 days, I’d recommend taking him back for another visit. It does sound like a simple ear infection though, and I’m sure your boy will feel much better in a few days. Keep us informed on how he’s doing and give him some extra scratches for us.

Balance center is in the ear. Infection causes inflammation and inflammation of any nearby nerves so that's why you're seeing the neurological effects with the eye blinking and twitching.
Keep up with ear drops I assume the doctor ordered. He may need some other oral antibiotics as well.
You might want to look up ear cleaning process after this resolves so you can cleanse the ears once the infection clears and then again once a week and after bathing just to reduce the incidence of recurrent ear infections.

If the veterinarian says it's an ear infection then most likely that's what it is. Don't get too upset dogs a resilient animals.
