  • We have a shorter mileage day but more of it in the mountains. By the end of the day we were spent and at this point we are starting to feel the onset of fatigue with riding and punching out this many miles in such a short span of days...but we are still having a blast!!!

Oh bro! I caught this piece towards the end of your trip!!! I gotta go back and catch up on your entire trip, but I’ve ridden this area often, love it. Hey so did you come by way of Hotchkiss, CO down thru Black Canyon NP of Gunnison? I went the other way, crossing that reservoir (Record breaking Bass caught out of that reservoir… FYI)… from Gunnison up thru about 53 miles of nonstop twisties (had to pull over 3/4 of the way just to get my bearings back because it’s such a slow constant twisties you really need to be on your game for), on the Canyon walls to Hotchkiss, then from there into Carbondale and into Aspen. (Another fun fact about Gunnison, historically and well documented, one of thee coldest place in the Nation, so cracked me up when you said how cold it was. The weather crushed me there over Labor Day Weekend years ago, trying to get from Aspen/Independence Pass back to Telluride, riding about 275 miles in torrential down pour thru Monarch Pass in about 40 degree weather. We only made it to Montrose as a blizzard had come thru Ridgeway & Telluride and snow plows couldn’t get the road open. Labor Day Weekend!!! So the famous quote from the epic movie Jeremiah Johnson…”Winter comes early to the high country”… could not have been more true. Lol. Which route did you take to Amarillo? Towards Pancho Springs?

We did ride thru Hotchkiss and actually stopped there for lunch. The cold definitely got the best of us thru there but it was sunny and couldn't really complain all that much. As we got closer to Raton Pass we were running from a storm and avoided it all together. I took 69 South out of Cotopaxi into Walsenburg and then just hit 25 south past Raton Pass and meandered my way using 87 south towards Amarillo. You'll definitely want to go back and watch the Texas to Tahoe Series. Some pretty amazing views to be had but thanks for watching. Deuces ✌
