Id be quite comfortable owning either, they both sound great. With the gain turned up full, I noticed a bit more note clarity with the Black Russian which I thought sounded better. So Black Russian for me, personal preference being the decider.
EHX USA and Russian owner.... I prefer the Russian live and in studio. More velvet-esque solos and pairs well with the Boss DS-1 as a gain boost/overdrive via my Fender stage 112 solid state. Sounds better and dirtier via singles than on my epi SG g400 w/ p90s
Both are great. I demoed both before making my purchase, but I ultimately went with the black. It had a little more note clarity, in my opinion. However, I would have been happy with the silver. Both gave me the David Gilmour/Pete Townshend sounds I was looking for.
Andrew Oliver I ended up getting my hands one of the black russians too and it beats all the other big muffs that I tried and owned. I've been using it with a les Paul standard loaded with hum-sized p90s (Rio Grande big bottom bastard set) that have a higher output than most p90s and they're a bit fatter sounding. They have the clarity and punch of a p90 when you need it but can really get down and dirty too so they fit the pedal perfectly in my opinion
Russian has more agressive sound, while American sounds more compressed. I'd choose Russian for lead parties, and American for rhythm. However, American sounds more "fuuzy"
Had a red script in the mid '70 that i loved. Tried large logo ri about 10 years ago. Too stoner rock for me. Of course, GC demo playing time. Maybe more tone there.
Psyfonify Sound is similar enough to claim they are in the same family, but the innards are wayyyy different. Check out the kitrae website review of it and the youtube video that shootsout the nano bass muff and a bubble font green.
My mom asked is that a new Kock amp? I said, “it’s Koch! with a “CH!” She said, “sorry.” “But shouldn’t the Koch go into the Big Muff?” I said, “I’m not going to discuss this with you.”

sovtek is the best big muff ever
The black is so underrated!
✊🏾 I agree.
In Soviet Russia, guitar plays you.
The Mig Fly's Comrades
William Nuno Vodka!!!
your pick will turn into a bullet
Your Muff boosts you
The cold war
Underrated comment

I bought the Black Russian when the local store didn't have the NYC. I like it, but not as much as the American. I like the darker American sound.
Both of them can work for almost anything. Just gotta know how to work it
both sound great and super usable, just different!
Black Russian is my favorite muff.
Will they do a reissue?
Check out Stomp Under Foot Black Russian
The Russian Muff sounds tighter and more defined, but the US version just has that massive dose of sputtering, angry piss and vinegar that I love!
exactly! well put.
Vinegar. I like that.

Use a graphic eq before the US version...
I like the sound of the Russian a touch better, but so did the guy I bought the American Big Muff from for $30 haha
russian gets crunchier, and is less woolly.
The Black Russian is by far the best big muff ever made Full fucking stop⚫️
Fuck yeah. I've owned one for 15 years and it's the only pedal I refuse to sell off
I’m with you. I love my Black Russian. Still have the wood box it came in. I’ll never sell it.
Russian for Tele. American for Strat. YMMV.
I had an origianl BM bought new back in 75/76 .. long lost somewhere ; I thing I paid $50/70 which was a lot of money back
then,.
Might be because I have one, but the Russian sounds way better to me. Sound is tighter while giving a good amount of fuzz.
Russian has a clean precise bite...USA chomping molars.
I thought the Russian one sounded better here - which is funny considering years ago I had the Russian one and sold it and bought the USA model... LOL

damn, why does it have to be the more expensive discontinued one?
+David Chamberlain 'cause it's gotten harder to get one
The Bass Big Muff uses the Russian circuit.
Green russian, the black russian is different
+Anarcho Communist it really does, ive compared them side by side, same exact sound, same exact pedal.
Psyfonify Sound is similar enough to claim they are in the same family, but the innards are wayyyy different. Check out the kitrae website review of it and the youtube video that shootsout the nano bass muff and a bubble font green.
I have one black box and not gonna sell it, it keeps my dimebucker tamed on higher notes :p
Both sound great. The Russian looks cooler. I'd probably go with the regular big muff...it is darker and fatter sounding.
Sounds awesome going into a dirty amp!
All fuzzes sound great
more midrange in russian, american more bass
I think it's a bit like any muff it's how you play cause they are all pink on the inside 😉
Russian win.
More clear than american version

3:50 why you have to buy
I’m looking for a battery door for the Black Russian model
Me too lol
I'm using a battery to DC converter for mine now.
Deluxe Big Muff can do both painlessly
Russian one wins hands down
Communist!!
You can by an eq and a big muff pi for way less than the Russian and make it sound basically the same no?
I bought my Sovtek EHX for the same price after a demo. As a Floyd fan, I went black Russian and won't go back.
Which one for Gilmour?
Dalton Heitmann russian
Can confirm: Black Russian, good Strat, good echorec clone, univibe, fender/hiwatt = gilmour-esque
Russian+++
No comparison really. The Russian all the way even a def person can figure this one out.
Greeny all the way !
i got the black and ya they right i aint goin back
Ambos suenan genial... 😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
prefer the made in NYC model
the russian muff sounds a bit too emulated to me, USA muff sounds a little more out of control (good way)
russian sounds more dirty and i luv it
USA all the way.
Well said
Russian one wins yoo🤘🏽
