    I love watching farriers work! It's an art and a science all together. A good farrier is worth their weight in gold, especially one that's patient with horses. So glad you have a good one!

      Yes it's a must to have a good one and not all qualified farriers are made equal x

    Such a good boy Apollo. Had to laugh at the bit where farriers obviously swapped, it looked for a minute Apollo was standing on 2 hooves only!

    oooh, I like watching the farriers work. I don't like shoes but Apollo needs them so, there it is. Good that you care so well for him and he gets them in plenty of time. That's one reason I don't like them - owners aren't careful. Nice that you can go to the farrier instead of having him come to you when he can. Good boy Apollo to wait so nicely on the farrier.

    The farrier must love Apollo. He's so well behaved!

      Apollo is good now but he wasn't when he first went to Steven for shoes. Steven was very patience with him and has a very good way with horses.

      The banging and smoke must be most alarming for a horse. Has Farouk been shod yet? ☺️

    • @Tara101
      @Tara101  6 лет назад +3

      Farouk may not need shoeing as he has very good hard feet

    • @lesleydickson7746
      @lesleydickson7746 6 лет назад +1

      Tara I hope he doesn't need shoes. I think he might find it quite stressful. As might the farrier. ❤️😂

    These two videos are awesome. I am a city dweller and I can only compare these shodding (or treatment in Farouk's case) to a display of great craftsmanship and a timeless art. Thank you for showing this.

    Apollo must feel spoiled with his fine pedicures and loving attention. As he should be! He even gets on with the barn cat.

      Farouk is worried when he goes to see Steven but he is two years younger. He goes nearly everytime Apollo goes just to get used to the environment

    Hot shoe is good! It makes the bottom of hooves better.

    That must be a hell of a trim with the nippers on the left front,
    He didn't even level with the rasp , just hemmed up the edges and straight to the anvil shaping the shoe 👀

    @Robin-sb7vu 6 лет назад +2

    Tara, do you shoe all your horses? I like that his apprentice gets the hoof ready for him.

      I'm just curious, how much is a set in the UK?

    • @Tara101
      @Tara101  6 лет назад +1

      The only horse who is not shod is Farouk and the price in the UK depends on what needs doing and is it a light weight racing shoe or handmade or bought in bulk for a manufacturer

    How interesting. I wonder what was going through the mind of the very first person who came up with the idea of putting a piece of metal on the foot of a horse?

    • @dshe8637
      @dshe8637 5 лет назад

      I guess it was probably a way to fix damaged hooves at first, then people realised they could use them to protect them and get more mileage.

  • @friedakiezebrink277
    @friedakiezebrink277 6 лет назад +6

    He had beautiful hooves and your Farrier is a craftsman . I have a question : why shave his fat locks (socks) it is characteristic of a Frisian

    • @Tara101
      @Tara101  6 лет назад +7

      I prefer him without feathers and in winter it is easier to spot any signs of mud fever
