Father Christopher Hofer, Rector at The Church of St. Jude (Episcopal) in Wantagh, NY explains that it is important for each of us to have a good sense of self-esteem. Often, people might pick on some physical characteristic we possess rather than getting to know who we really are. This can lower our self-esteem. In Jesus' day, anybody who had some type of skin condition was considered "unclean," was labeled a leper and was cast out. The only person who cared about these people was Jesus, who often cured them so they could be accepted back into society. Today, this helps all of us to realize that we are whole in Christ.
