  • I'm trying this style of video to provide some tips for glassing that I've learned so far. It may not be the best way to do it, but it's helped me as a beginner along my journey. This also includes some information on installing futures fin boxes. #surf

Great tips! Especially the hot coat part (I’m about to enter that part of the glassing process for my first build). Thanks!

Thank you 🙏🏽 I hope some of it helps! I’m still learning too, but figured I can try and pass on some of the things I’ve learned along the way! Good luck!

Great video man thanks! Did you put any fiberglass on top of the boxes after you routed them in?

Hey, thank you 🙏🏽 and you’re welcome!
No I didn’t. I’ve been considering doing that before doing the hot coat, but I guess I’m so in the habit of not doing it that I always forget.
I know a lot of the master shapers out there do, so I probably should start doing, eh?

Nice work Paul, just subscribed. Deffo give the zipper cut a try, i find the more its cured the easier and then pull the lap up and cut into sections. Also with the leash plug install i find it easier after the hotcoat. Keep it up though looking super clean! Im in the process of making some similar vids!

      Chyyewwww!
Thanks for the tips! I recently tried the zipper method again bc i forgot about it and the lamination cured fully overnight and I was having difficulty. It is definitely easier when it’s fully cured! The tape lifts up more evenly and it doesn’t pull off the fiberglass as much! Still having some difficulty keeping the cut straight though 🫠

awesome dude. for cutting the hotlap is 'zipper method' the bent razor running flat while pulling tape? I've only made a couple boards but found that way super easy.. @shrednaught has some super helpful videos on it.
question re: hotcoat- how do you get your resin up to temp before hotcoating, i struggle with that in the cold as well... quick microwave helps but the end temp is a total guess!
    keep up the good work
    🤙

Hey thanks! I have seen a bunch of his videos and I haven’t tried it yet with the bent razor. My biggest issue is that the fiberglass seems to pull away from the board when I’m lifting the tape before cutting it like he does. Any tips to prevent that?
I just set it in front of my space heater while prepping everything and hope for the best. Dave Chun told me that he uses an igloo cooler with a heat lamp in it. I plan to do that in the future if I can’t get my shop insulated by next winter. Good luck!

@@paul_s-eo I know what you mean with the glass lifting up but I just use a fresh razor and do lots of relief cuts before I start.. maybe more prep before you get cutting but then it's pretty simple. Anyway what your doing seems to be working out just fine!!
