Design for older people? Okay. But the people that will comprise the old population then will be the young people now, so it's all good they'll be used to it
As a Chinese I must say that if this authorization ethnocentric society of China don't collapse till 2050 and achieved world dominance, you properly should say goodbye to the people-centric ideology and start from a more policy-centric or big company centric UX practice.
I'm not sure what I expected, but there is nothing futuristic about anything he said. Pretty much more kind of "kids, let's look at history and learn from it." The nonsensical part is where he compares IQ with UX. Already today, scientists are critical of this method of measuring intelligence. It would make much more sense if he meant to say that most UX tasks will somehow be automated by AI. He has not even considered all the neighboring disciplines, not to mention tech. The goal of every job today should be to make itself redundant in the future so we can do things that makes more sense for that time.
Thank you for this insightful analysis!
Great points throughout. Design Darwinism could be an entire field of study.

Very true Alma, Immature presentation to motivate high school people. A major part of UX is customer feedback which shape the design of any product.
hopefully it was intended to speculate a dilution in potential quality, not some eugenic elitist belief
Global warming and resource scarcity has entered the chat. (Nielsen: "We're all going to get richer and richer and food will be so cheap!")

Okay UX is important.. but this is overblown in my opinion.
