I've only played the 2nd game. In Pikmin 2, you return to a planet Olimar, the protagonist was stranded on in order to pay off a massive debt. You use the Pikmin to go around and collect treasure and build up money. There's a lot of strategy involved because you'll often go into caves that are full of monsters that require a different method to take down. You'll also want to keep track of your Pikmin so you'll finish a level with as few casualties as possible. It can be challenging, but very fun
I know this is a decade later, but this description of Pikmin 2 is extremely spot on. Such an amazing game and probably one of my favorites over the years.
the rules are easy watch out that you're pikmin: -drown in water blu pikmin don't -get hit by any attack which they are no immune to -falling into pits -get left behind -get shoked which is only in pikmin 2 -get burned that should be all that could happen to you're pikmin you get pikmin by bringing pallets and enemies back to the unions (pikmin live in unions) the ammount of pkmin double if you bring a palle to the union of th same colour thaat should be all
oh and pikmin mature over time fromlea to bud to flower pikmin can be turned into a flower instantly by making them drink nectar which are found in rocks and grass.
