    Wow. Ronnie Barker, in the robot sketch, took the 'Uncanny Valley' to a whole new level! I've never seen this one before. Commenters who wondered how he could keep a straight face when Ronnie Corbet did his comedy antics in the Accountant Bore sketch, this one is extraordinary.

    That Ronnie Barker was a brilliant swordsmith is a given. That he could convey that through comedy was our gain. Brilliant.

    I first saw these very clever sketches when I was around ten to twenty years old, when they were initially broadcast on BBC1 in the UK. I'm now 58 and seeing them again, as though it were only yesterday, brings back many happy memories. To think that most (if not all) of those involved are now either very old or, indeed, deceased certainly brings home my own age ('though I remain 'young at heart')!

    The two Ronnies were well known for there dirty jokes. They were very clever about it, they often had a way of being extremely dirty without actually saying anything dirty.

    Ronnie Barker as a robot was incredible. I didn't even realise it was Barker until he opened his eyes at the looks at women like washing machines quip. He really looked like a robot.

    Notice how one of the two Ronnies referred to Soccer in the first sketch, in those days I remember it was not big deal to use this word. This sketches were funny though, Pity we don't have comics and writers of this calibre now.

    06:59 It wasn't dirty at all. He responded "Yes she does WRITE a little slower, but I don't worry at all." She was supposed to be a secretary, remember.

    It's been a while since I've watched the Two Ronnies, thank you! If you ever get the chance, watch their "Intourist" sketch (tourist bureau in Moscow). It was absolutely hilarious. I can't find it anywhere though.

    Almost the entire purpose of The Two Ronnies was to use language in a comical fashion. It was a particular obsession of Ronnie Barker, who penned among the very best of their scripts. I am not even sure - and this is not an attempt to curry favour - that a young British audience today would catch on in the way that you have in these sketches. And that is actually rather depressing.

    These were retrospectives by The Two Ronnies (Barker and Corbett), some years after the original broadcasts. By this time, Ronnie B has become quite ill (as his appearance betrays) and, sadly, I think he died only a relatively short time after, in 2005. The smaller-statured 'Ronnie C.' lived for quite a few years, dying only in 2016. Ronnie B. also wrote many of the scripts for 'The Two Ronnies', under the name 'Gerald Wiley'. A great and versatile actor, too, assuming many personas in The Two Ronnies, as well as a number of quite different characters in other comedy series (such as 'Porridge', in which he played a recidivist thief, imprisoned with a naive cell-mate).

    • @Cobalt-Jester
      @Cobalt-Jester Год назад +2

      You are correct. This retrospective of their 'best bits' was aired just after Ronnie B died. He recorded all the studio parts and things but he never got to see it.
      Ronnie B was without question one of the finest 'wordsmiths'. He could play around with the English language that I don't think anyone else could.

      @@Cobalt-Jester A master comedy writer and performer, and thus a highly intelligent individual! I'd clearly forgotten that this compilation was broadcast after the death of Ronnie B; 'a great shame he didn't see the highlights of his BBC output.
