I could sit with this man and talk for hours.Hard earned life but would not change a thing.Every kid around should listen to the older generation. Be one hell of a different world!
I remember the days of working 9 months a year and living the rest of the year off it. When summer shutdown came along you hit the beach, beers and barely dressed girls. It aint like that no more. A house was 400 a month and a case of beer was 8 bucks. Now a house is 3 grand and beer is 30 a case. But I had a lot of fun. I couldnt think of anything that was better in the world to do. I never finished grade 8 either.
I started logging in the Siuslaw in 1971. Inch chokers with babbitted nubbins. No idea why it was called high lead, we never had any lift. Gradually the owner got a bigger tower and we did a lot of shotgunlogging...finally got busted up in 94 and that was the end of that.
Great memories & great story telling! Gord, I remember you well from PCB/Hayes Walbran & Toba Division operations, and still have one of your great cartoon books that you published. In one of your cartoons you immortalized our good friend and colleague Darryl Stewart, aka “the Wingnut”. Keep up the great work! - Harold Hayes
