- Back again with more Noob vs Pro Scrap Mechanic! Today Dapper and I are competing in a tugboat challenge where we each build a boat capable of maneuvering a barge around a river map! The barge then goes from dock to dock making deliveries of super heavy refinery bots!

idea: Use Semi trucks to move those refineries, collectors, etc across land like you did this video
Or a multi challenge like this course then on land so you need a land and a water vehicle or you could try amphibious

I imagine this is what happened when i think about how a cargo ship got wedged in the Suez Canal.
And the operators were probably just as bad 😂
What is happening with the water is reinforcing a theory on how the game calculates physics, I think the calculation of two objects has its own calculations which are inferior to the physics for one object. And in particular the transfer of energy is extremely inconsistent for multiple object calculations. A further theory which is what this reinforces is that pistons with bearings create another creation which adds to the multi creation calculation. The further down this line the worse the physics become for energy transfer. The reason your speed varies so much is because the part of your grabber claw holding on to the barge is a thing creation when looked at by physics and the part that is part of the arm is part of the ship so unless the ship is in contact with the barge, it is calculating 3 creation interactions and thus the energy loss is multiplied when the ship is not in direct contact with the barge. This is quickly turning into a super wall of text but the reason I came to this theory is because when hauling a trailer directly attached to a vehicle moved faster then When the were attached by pipes despite being the same vehicle and trailer.

Actually dapper kept having half their engines off.
At 19:35 you can see only the top left of rear thrusters is on and dapper is slow
Then at 20:36 when they are suddenly fast again all the thrusters are on.
teach him(dapper) some logic and do a logic challenge
Dapper is really good with similar logic in other games, it shouldn’t be too hard for him to pick it up
Even when Kan builds a boat he still manages to give it tank stearing

The difference between a boat and a ship for definition is a ship leans outwords when turning and a boat leans inwards when turning
this is incorrect. for sail boats/ships, a ship is square rigged and has atleast 3 masts and a boat is anything else. But for motorised boats/ships a ship is a large intended for ocean voyages.
multiplayer monday idea: 2 teams. team 1 pushes a big boat made out of bubble block whit 2 tugboats and team 2 has a 1 car whit a turret on and needs to destroy the big boat to slow down team 1. team with the shortest time wins

Hope u will do a explosive warehouse run in survival, like using the tank for regular tape bots, and for the explosive bots use ur own explosive, fight fire with fire, and after that clear the warehouse with explosives

idea: Multiplayer Monday - Tugboat
Create transport barges that can carry collectors full of raw (unrefined) materials to the refineries.
Once the material is refined the player can move on to the finish line.
similar idea: mount the refineries & boxes on the barge & have several resource boxes along the course. they need to push refinery barges close enough to so that resources refine & fill the boxes. maybe the resource locations have free-bearing wheels along the wall to help guide the barge into a narrowing dock to aid alignment.
bonus difficulty/strategy: have more resource in each locations than necessary & limited box inventory space.
they must fill their box while collecting a full stack of all 4 refineables (they had a similar requirement on their drill+saw harvester-collector multiplayer monday race).
speeding up the refining process could be done by changing the refine-bot recipes (or complicating it by having some rods refine for a little, and some refine for a lot)
Idea: a lobster boat that you drive around picking up little lobster traps but you have to do it as fast as you can
I had a similar Idea for me and my cousin. But tugging multitple smaller rafts and bring them to one station. One by one
if you want to do a tugboat challenge with a large boat to move then you would be better off with teams as you did at the end of the vid would be more of a challenge and would work better/faster
This should be a 2v2 challenge
you should do this one again, but instead of separate building and trying, you start building and from that start you can barge whenever you want, first to the end wins. and you can build when you're already moving too
I'm really surprised neither of you made your tugs able to strafe. Would have made steering so much easier. Especially when pushing.

You should have put one or two refineries(s) on the back of the tug boat.
if you do tugs in the future, using a two point hook, instead of a one point hook, will give you more controllability. Also, heavier tugs work better.
Also, pull the platform, don't push it.
@@avidos_ you can push it effectively if you use the two point connection as well as a wide flat face.

Oh wow, didn't think THIS would happen. Too late this wasn't only Dappel's idea... I have already done that but with ACTUAL vehicles on a ferry barge plus rail vehicles...
You should try From the Depths. It, unsurprisingly, handles boats better. 😋
But seriously, if you want to make some big boats that actually work well, From the Depths gives you way more tools and better water physics. I suspect you'd find it a lot more rewarding than Scrap Mechanics nonsense buoyancy stat. (Seriously, they have a weight stat and volume is measured in blocks, why do they need a buoyancy stat?!)

You need a flat large bow to have a better control on the rotation of the barge
RL tugboats tend to have rounded noses so they can push at different angles, but also SM water physics is weird.
Noob VS Pro Farm Defense(Use the God Mode for infinite Materials while building)
If you do another tug boat, add strafe, that will help you with rotation.
The boats are steering weird when pushing because you're off center. CoM and CoT all over again.
You put your thrust in the center you get a rocket, you put it to the side you get a beyblade.

A trucking Challenge were on Survival they have to go from the mechanic station to the trader and pick some food crates at the packing station and some farmers on the way.
kan, what is it with you and committing blatant acts of sabotage on this map? in the mm boat race you put down a line of explosives to mess with scrapman, and her you started the race by blocking dapper into a wall

Kan I have an idea that might be better. Instead of ending the race at the Dock where you drop off the refineries, have another set of objects waiting at the first drop off dock and then take the other items and load onto the barge and take them to the first dock drop off there then take the barge back to the start to finish the race or go back past the second dock all the way around to the back side of the starting dock.
Make the evergreen boat and get it stuck in the river and see how long it takes for everyone to pull it out and get it unstuck rules are no suspension glitches and a max of eight thrusters all in a 16x16

Whelp, now you have to challenge the Multiplayer Monday Crew to an improved version of this.
Maybe make it to where they have preloaded barges, and have to move two barges (only allow them to move one at a time) between two locations, and then reach a finish line.
Multiplayer Monday where teams of 2 have to build their own tug boats to rescue stranded ships and push them to dock before the other team can?

Useful info : tier 3 wood has higher boyancy than bubble block.
But I think it weighs more, so the overall carrying capacity is less.

I liked it but i feel like it would've been more satisfying to see your boat pulling the barge, like Dapper's boat did.
Maybe would've been a good idea to have claws in the back as well as the front.
