I intend to use this video next time my customer (internal) asks why I can't do a bazillion turned parts with milled features at a competitive cost on my Hardinge HLV-H toolroom lathe. Thank you!
Tooting my horn. I can setup both cam machines and cnc. It's a lifetime investment. The people that decelope and operate this equipment are trey artisans
I love it when customer ask me why I can't make cheap simple parts on a modern CNC swiss. I can, but the older style davenports ans cam machines will always make them faster and cheaper when doing volume.

Were you able to follow the distinction of these three classes of machines? We produce well over a million components every sIngle week. I know this high volume production environment is different from most CNC shops but this is the technology we need to employ to bring manufacturing back to the US.
Spent many years cutting my teeth on Acme-Gridley automatic screw machines... Things have come a long way since those days. I recently purchased monolithic copper bullets for handloading that were turned on a Swiss style CNC machine... Amazing precision and consistency.
First time I've actually heard (and seen) in detail the difference between these machines. Also now I know why it's called a screw machine! Thanks!

great video, thanks for posting!
I've been a screw machine a few times myself ! :-D
It was not just US and Swiss that devised this machinery, the British and Germans did a lot too.
The Japanese really pushed low cost machinery our way as well.
Is there an online community for Cnc swiss programmers? Where we can discuss tools, components, troubleshooting, etc..
Excellent video. Probably the best I've seen at describing the differences and applications.

Yo I want a table top version of this that can make m3-m5 screws.
Been a while since I had to retire to disability things have progressed so much since 2001
Very informative video, thanks.
Great
