We spend more on the health service every 2 days. These grants are the few coins on the ground in the grand scheme of things. It's without doubt value for money.

Im just as angry with what the fai has done to what the government has done with our tax payers money being unfairly funded over class.
Football is the richest sport in the world, the richest sport in Ireland in terms of fans support and playing the sport (350 thousand currently playing), but is really so badly under funded, while the gaa are getting hand outs every 2 minutes towards stadiums and facilities. Horse racing is a rich man's minority sport being handed out 10s of millions every year.
Where's all the part funded government facilities for our biggest sport football over the past 20 years like the gaa, what an absolute joke.
We need massive change in the fai, not just personnel, but true change to move the sport on, we need the government to help this change by taking a step back in funding the gaa so heavily and set a 10 year plan to help fund the growth of a poor man's sport in this country.

@pete 1 so what are you saying is that the working class don't vote. you know there's 350 thousand people in Ireland who are currently playing the sport.
The truth is there's a strangle hold by the gaa on the government for decades like there was a strangle hold by the church in the past.
Brown envelopes, bad decisions, corruption, class, buddy system are all the words I would discribe how they distribute funding.
There should be a process and judgment on how much funding a sport get through how many play and support, with extra help for struggling sports.

@@bryanjmm4532 why the hell would the govt give money to a basket case like the fai for god sake . i am a rural man a farmer who has both played soccer and gaa , and from my experience from dealing with both club s . the gaa club was by far run better than the soccer club even doe we had large numbers playing soccer aswell .also people give out about the horse and greyhound industries but they give alot of employment to rural areas and alot of farmers have breeding mares for either showing at country shows or race industry . they might only have a couple of mares because they inherited the bug from their fathers and grand fathers .

Just as well as the FAI can not be trusted with money, soccer numbers are kind of skewed as people play it on a more casual basis not to mention most of the support and interest is in English Premier League football where as LOI has empty stadiums for games.

@@barrypower6822 why do you think the gaa is better run. They have massive revenue every year but don't pay there players, they get hand outs every 2 minutes for facilities and I could give a guess that they have been given hundreds of millions for there stadiums around the country. Imagine the league of ireland were given funding in that way for 2 decades, I would be pretty sure there would be more of a high standard of organisation.
Listen you honestly believe just because a small percentage of jobs are created in rural Ireland by handing out 70 million a year makes sense in a minority sport over a huge sport in football getting 2.9 million a year.

@@bryanjmm4532 if junior soccer went to a summer season den the number of team would half over night that's a fact . The draw of gaa is strong and soccer is seen as a winter sport to keep your fitness up . Example I will give ya I played for a rural club for years in soccer we had 2 adult teams eventually we had to cut it till 1 because the younger lads had no interest in soccer after youth s and only concerned with the gaa . The past 2 year the adult team has struggled because the hurlers were going well won county titles 2 years on the bounce. Those 2 seasons the soccer team struggled and the majority of the team was made up of lad s like me who were over 40 so the club could stay going . Now this year the gaa club had a bad year and all the younger lads are back and we are top of our division . But your totally dependent on the gaa players . If summer soccer came in we would have to fold even doe it's not long since we got our own pitch bought and paid for off the county council . The problem u dont get is the gaa is the lifeblood of a parish , maybe you live in a major town or city and dont see that . But too people outside of dublin the gaa is more to them than life itself. Do you get my meaning . The fai needs rank file reform no government can justify giving millions to a organisation that hid its massive losses from it's own board and its banks. You need corporate leaders to run the fai and not a group amauter yes men .
