in retrospect, I think I set the post processing gain a bit high, balancing the mic audio and game audio is slightly different now that I'm running both a new mic and new headphones so I'll have to get used to that. this is also the first video uploaded in my new native resolution at that native resolution quality, so instead of 1080p upscaled to 4k (for youtube video compression shenanigans), this is just a true 1440p. hopefully the quality looks good

I kinda disagree with your stance on the movement Payday 2 was just to crazy with movement imo.
Makes me feel like every movement I make is meaningful and more grounded.
And I think the new stealth is better than the wacky stealth in PD2 I wouldn't call payday 2 stealth realistic either.
I can atleast admit there is more thought in stealth this time around.

I have to say that most of the gameplay section flip-flops between "it's not like PD 2, make it so" to "this is too much like PD 2, change it". I'm actually interested in the more slow PD: TH gameplay loop as PD 2 is still perfectly accessible and in-depth after all the content updates, whilst TH is TWELVE years old by now.

That's because PD2 did a lot of things great, but also lacked a lot in some places.
Stealth is definitively way better in PD3, but the fun of going full unhinge and disconnecting from the doorframe to absolute bangers during loud is gone. It looks like One Down/high crime spree slog that almost nobody wants to do after couple of times unless they're grinding infamity

    • @DD_Vandal

Payday 2 started as a more slower paced game like PDTH byt powercreep led to needing harder difficulties which eventually led to it being the horde shooter what it is today. Being more similair to PDTH is just a plus imo.

@@GeneralMcBadassApparently (according to dev dairies, I wasn't let into the beta) the abilities of specials is the main thing that scales with difficulty so some abilities may only be active on higher difficulties.
Allegedly this means that instead of damage/health scaling and spamming more units the units will use more of their moveset. If it works that's great because it helps keep the skill gap flat and reduce power creep so good play is about playing well not out DPSing things.
One ability I'm looking forward to is cops will now stack up and move with Shields so they can move tactically and actually protect other cops.

For me during the beta (I played a lot) I saw a cloaker do a flip, I can't recall how it went down cause I was in awe at it. I do remember seeing a cloaker hide behind the printer near the vault. You could kinda tell if you paid attention that the cloaker was hiding behind it but would've rushed to the back entrance with the bag and got a smackdown.
With the Nader and the Taser, they have spots on them. Then if you shot said spot, it would backfire on them. The Taser had a pack on the side of leg that if shot would explode and would shock them. The Nader has a pack on its stomach if shot would explode them and leave a little toxic gas puff. I do believe these might have aoe damage.

I got access to it, managed to put 20 hours in it.
Gunplay as you said, I agree, its alright, it wasn't gonna be hard to improve on PD2. Only way i found to reload cancel was by sprinting, which is annoying but they did add a multi step mechanic to reloads, say you start reloading the revolver, you dump the casings out, have to sprint to cancel it, once you continue reloading, you just quickly put the new bullets in. Same for other guns with magazines.
I didnt like the smgs at all, makes having the revolver to deal with heavier swats, shields and snipers a necessity. Every other gun was great, found the M14 the best in the beta, shotgun a close second, the perk that added bullets directly back into the gun on kill loop was fantastic for clearing out rooms, especially once you got the 10% damage bonus going.
I feel like the armor bag was the only one worth having, since armor no longer regens like in PD2 and you get first aids from hostsges AND since gun play is slower you struggle less with ammo. I never ran anything else once armor bags were available.
Loud was barely improved on in terms of mechanics, but i did like that having many hostages around nerfs some cop units, e.g. Shotgun cops swap to pistols, grenadiers use flash bang rather than tear gas. Stealth feels brand new and the new mechanics of getting detected then escorted out or cuffed means you get a couple get out of jail free cards, making it easier on newcomers, i like it.
Graphics were okay, the game ran alright, no stutter or freezing or long load times, just expected better visuals from an unreal engine game. I did struggle with FPS stability, fluctuated a lot. Had to cap it 45. And yeah, also hate this matrix green filter.
Internet connection was actually fine 90% of the time. Crossplay is welcome, makes me feel like console players wont be left in a ditch again. But i did notice that console players struggled a lot more on higher difficulties.
And yeah, audio is iffy, cant hear specials well, music sometimes is too loud (great song though), and our voices feel buried beneath it all, i wanna hear my characters more, get a feel for their personalities.
Last notes, the gun painting mechanics looks like crap. The way to unlock attachments through use is nice. The C-stack currency thing feels a bit pointless. Like a worse continental coin.

lotta great takes here. I share a lot of sentiments, but I didn't want to touch upon balance yet because that's one thing that will always change as the game's lifespan continues. but the SMG did feel useless compared to the ARs lol. same with the armor bag, basically the only one worth having because the only unit to chip your health (if you had armor that is) was the grenadier, but he wasn't very oppressive

I think in games like Payday, Killing Floor, Vermintide/Darktide it's crucial that shooting and hitting feels powerful, it's all about animations, visuals, sound design. I got lucky and had about 5 hours with the beta so I got the tail end of it where most of the day 1 issues were long gone. No leveling issues, connectivity or lagging so I feel like I got a good picture of what the game will be like
I like the gunplay and shooting personally. I know a lot of people are used to the good ol fashioned arcadyness of payday 2 but honestly Ive always preferred the buttery smoothness and awkward milsim movement of pdth (i realize im in the minority on this but its my opinion)
The bindings are atrocious and theres no reason to have the shout key bound to the same key as the chat/ping wheel - its just awkward but the menu looked unfinished so hopefully there will be a way to bind them separately or disable it completely on launch
The 2 maps we've all seen are a little bland and small but they're much better than jewelry store heist and the starter bank in payday 2 and more replayable, plus I heard theres going to be a nice mix of larger heists too, including a big bank/fwb-esque map thats already been semi leaked in screenshots of cover art - if thats the case, having a mix of small and large maps will be healthy and im looking forward to seeing how they pull it off
I like the simpler skill system, I guess its a shame for people who liked optimizing builds, and as you said, people who liked the silly stuff, but for me personally I wont be missing the old skill system because I would much rather the gameplay be centered around how well you shoot and use your surroundings opposed to optimizing your builds with a magnifying glass. I realize I am also in the minority on this as well but like I said - Im a firm pdth enjoyer (i will miss playstyle changing perk decks though like stoic, hacker, kingpin, ect.)
I agree with the cosmetics of specialists, they look too normal and dull. Bring back the panzer style bulldozer from pdth
Online only is the stupidest option they could have chosen for a company that was just saved from bankruptcy not even a whole half decade ago seriously wtf were they thinking? Ive already seen a massive amount of hate from people who A) cant play online only games because of location and B) refuse to support the shitty practice. Add that with sprinkled in lack of mod support and allegedly $40 for 4 additional heists that have no guarantee of being high quality and you have yourself a recipe for a game that will be dead in like 2 years tops
The gameplay satisfyed and really resonated with me as someone who enjoyed pdth but there are some very questionable decisions surrounding the release and it feels very patreon scammy but the beta proved itself to me at least. Heres to hoping theyll listen to feedback and not do a back for blood

Great to hear your thoughts but on the regard of the Shotgun I was able to cancel the reload between shells by aiming. In fact the shotgun tree seems built around just loading a couple shells here and there rather than sitting for a full reload.
Also on the point of skills it's hard to judge since with my time I only had 7 skill points but I felt even less restricted in terms of building.

My main gripe with the game so far is the cop health overall. Like, it doesn't feel good to have to put 2 shells of a shotgun point-blank into a SWAT unit's chest to be able to kill them. I realize they're probably trying to emphasize headshots, but still, they feel way too tanky for standard units.

I'm not colorblind, and i agree the specials do have a visibility issue. I understand the cloaker, because hes kind of supposed to be like that, but ive had a few matches where a grenadier has gassed the entire map and no-one can find them, dozers come up out of nowhere, i never saw a problem with the tazers, but they are fairly hard to distingush in a group. the filter is pretty gross too, reminds me of the grey/brown military shooter trend from the late 00's, early 10's.

i really enjoyed playing the beta
performance on my end was not optimal but i am using a G-Force 1060 so quite an old graphic card compared to PD3 and i still had
Consistent 40 FPS in stealth ( probably due to the many civs walking arround)
    Consistent 60 FPS on Loud
    on low settings
i overall liked the new features/mechanics they added, trading hostages for resources / delayed first assault for example is really cool, interacting with something is not just standing in a place for x seconds but you have mini-games to speed it up
the new changes to stealth definetly freshens up stealth and especially the seed system make stealth way more appealing to me as someone who played like 95% heists on loud.
the skill system has definetly its ups and downs but to me it looks like it is easier too add a new skill-line compared to a whole skill-tree or sub tree so i think they might expand it in the coming years
I am overall optimistic that the game will turn out great

  • @bliczb8772
    @bliczb8772 9 месяцев назад

One thing that does put a smile on me that was a big pet peeve of mine in PD2 was the player interactions. As in... Finally, we don't have that white circle we have to wait to fill up to open the doors, safes or windows. Now, it's still present in the game, such as when answering the radio or hacking something with your phone, but it's far less of it. When you're lockpicking, you're actually lockpicking. Might not be super complicated (if I was Overkill, I'd make the spot move every time you hit it correctly to make it somewhat harder), but at least you're doing something. When you're cracking a safe, you're actually cracking it. However, at the same time, I'm realizing that this isn't really all that praiseworthy. This stuff is pretty much basic nowadays. Although it does make me wonder whether or not they'll try to find a way to make things more interesting in other heists.

    • @dedicatez

@@LeaveMeAloneFBIthe only goofy stuff that was actually bad was how out of control the narrative went. The subtle gags an exaggerated pager lines landed the game some of its most iconic aspects. The only over the top stuff that’s just blatantly too goofy is some of the event stuff not heists. Also have you seen the playerbase on pc? The amount of shitpost mods is unearthly. I’d go as far to say part the reason payday is popular is because of how goofy it can be.

when i saw me friend play this game it looked like a generic team based horde shooter, im glad if they want to make a payday the heist successor but i didnt like payday the heist. I like payday 2's shitload of a buildcrafting and gunplay i dont want to deal with hyper realistic hipfire and recoil and a single perk row
on the other side, if they wanna make streamer bait i think they've done pretty well, every basic unreal 5 asset, a slide movement tech, always online, 3 different purchase options, denuvo, 28 gigabytes for a single heist, if they keep going i think streamers are gonna be the only ones playing.

I had a lot of time with the beta and I'm mostly happy with it despite the fact it was a months old build
Gunplay was definitely a massive improvement compared to PD2, but as has been said it isn't a particularly high bar to pass, however the guns look and feel amazing, more smoothness as such. Needing to use different weapons for different scenarios and having to use guns to level them up allows players to feel comfortable with different weapon classes and encourages people to play differently unlike PD2 where meta used the same weapons.
In regards to stealth, much like mustard you like it or don't, it isn't for everyone but it is undeniably true that stealth has been improved massively, casing mode alone makes stealth feel like it is more than just bunny hopping honkey tonkey break dancing all over the map avoiding enemies like the plague, there are actual ways of stealthing without murdering half the map and because of the phone hacking you can have one or more team members stay unmasked keeping tabs on guards
My overall impression is, it isn't going to be a perfect sequel and people are going to be unhappy about various things regardless, nothing is ever perfect but in my mind it looks a lot more appealing and less chaotic than PD2

Having "slower" actions makes consequences of your action more meaningful, just like longer/interruptible reloads. You have control over your actions: to not do them when it's not appropriate. Rather than press one button and fly 10m forward. What would take away your control would be actual cc and maybe suppression mechanic. (which I believe would be a far better trait to add to bulldozer rather than massive hp pool)
Staged reload...etc. and all of the "slower" actions makes the game feel much better than how floaty pd2 was, it makes the gameplay more immersive and thus rewarding(feels like I actually hauled a bag of cash, soon gold, to the getaway van and fought hard along the way rather than floating through it all). Part of why pd2 had to have enemy damage/hp tuned way up at higher difficulties is likely because players could just do everything fast and thus have very low downtime/exposure to enemy fire.
And specials being less fruity-colored makes them much more of a threat in a crowd rather than two clicks. It will make marking, spotting skills...etc. more useful. As long as they handle sound cue correctly.

    • @unknownenjoyer
      @unknownenjoyer 9 месяцев назад +2

I agree, also adding on with them being similar styles fits in with the military type you don't want to stand out too much in battle. Like if the enemies knows certain type of people will be wearing bright orange and that those people are going to use explosives against you. Your gonna spot them easily in the battle and prioritize your attention on them till they are dealt with. We are supposed to be the bad guys here don't make it that easy on us we aren't that bad.

To me Payday 3 feels like Payday 1.5, which is fine if you enjoyed the first game, but Payday 2 did something special and turned a methodical shooter into an insane arcade shooter where you could refine builds, destroy entire waves on your own, throw bags into the sun, revive people by shouting at them with inspire from across the map and most importantly for me at least, doing all this whilst listening to some of the best ingame music Ive ever heard. Payday 2 has been a Steam chart topper for the longest time and it feels like they've stripped most of what made Payday 2 great, for some people this might be a welcome change but I feel like for most people, it will become very stale very quickly

I agree with your take just watching the footage. The player movements look more realistic, but actions are too slow in a wave clearing type of game. They would really have to redesign the wave mechanics if they were to keep the players actions this slow. It just doesn't look very engaging. The player actions remind me of something like the Sniper Elite series, now imagine a game like that, but you have to fight off a horde of enemies. It just doesn't work. I actually would have liked it if they did a complete overhaul of the loud heist gameplay. PD2 was fun as a wave clearing game, but something more slower paced and realistic with focusing also more on stealth would have been refreshing.

From my playtime in the beta i managed to make a shotgun armor build and i found it rather satisfying, using the limited 7 skill points they allowed us to have.
Vaulting and sliding feels natural despite neither pd2 or pdth having it
    As for what i disliked.
The ui outside of heists felt awful, guns weren't in their own categories when buying (pistols in pistols and that sort of thing) overall it felt stupidly huge with it's basic rectangles.
    Using iron sights felt weak
The heist barely having any randomized elements to it.
Trying to do stealth and then failing stealth feels like it puts you back at complete zero. Example from payday 2 being Big bank and how if you got through the lobby you now had access to the vault or how in pdth the alarmboxes in diamond heist got instatly hacked when hacked in stealth or when doing no mercy you can just find the right guy.
Mask customization was lackluster (probably will be better hopefully)
Cloakers charged me from behind 2 corners CONSISTENTLY (i have no idea why or how)
The online only connection (i believe it was day 2 that showed the ugliness of that)
C-Stacks (I get it's supposto be like a prestige system but the increasing buy price smells of some intentionally annoying and fabricated problem (which one could fix with say uh MICRO))
I do agree about the enemy silhouettes you mentioned, it's something that didn't come to my mind but it something did feel off about the specials
As for the map, i rather liked the inside of the bank, maybe the outside did feel a bit dull but that might be the point.
Graphics wise, i could run it on the lowest and it still looked pretty while running okay.
