Awesome video! Do you know if a passenger can still use the passenger pegs with these on? On the same note of customizing a Rebel, what engine guards are those?
Could you provide a measurement for how far the bottom of the mounting bracket is from the bottom of the Viking bag? Also which Quick Detach kit did you order, as some of them are for specific makes?
I will get the measurement next time I am in the Garage - the Kit was for a Honda , it said it could not be used with the cut away bags - but what the heck - with a little work it was just fine..
Based on your pictures, it looks like you could have gone with the version without the shock cutouts. Do you think this is true? Viking makes a bag just like yours for the Rebel 250 that does not have the shock cutout. Even though I have a Rebel 500, I think I want the bags without a shock cutout. Similar to the channel wanderebel and the Viking Odin Large bag.
FlankerTanker I plan on using a similar quick disconnect mount from Amazon which I think will move the bags sideways out and away from the shocks much like yours do. I will also mount them high like you. Maybe I’ll do a cardboard mock up first.
Not.necessary no shock impingement due to positioning on the bag and when installed you don't see any of the bracket apart from the top where the lock is.
Thanks for making this. I just got some Viking bags for my Magna. I really wanted to know why the QD mounts were incompatible with the shock cutout bags. I even called Viking. Had to leave no. and email. Haven't gotten back to me yet. Thanks to you, I don't have to wait on them.

Great tutorial! Do the quick release brackets cause the bags to protrude further out from the bike and not wrap around the shock?
Yes they do a little - but is you mount then definitely (lower and further forward to the bags they will not protrude as much as mine do
Can you adjust it? Would like to do this on my Honda Rebel 1100 with piggyback shocks. Please advise if possible…

I have mounted the Bags quite high but if you were to mount them lower without the cutout I still think they would interfere with the shocks -

I would have also cut the access braket to avoid shock impingement and to give a cleaner look
