- Concrete Genie is now out for the PlayStation 4 and I was interested in picking it up to check out a unique looking game from PixelOpus. When I started playing I was surprised by how different it was from what I had seen from trailers and towards the middle of the game everything changes. At half the price of bigger retail games I think Concrete Genie is completely worth looking into and today I wanted to talk about my thoughts after my play through.

I have come to appreciate games that don't take my entire life. A game being short can sometimes be a selling point.
For sure. There are times I wish games would be almost as concise as movies.

I agree. I love my epic games that take a month to finish, but generally I only play them once. I like the idea of a game that I can play through twice or even three times over a weekend.
I prefer shorter games. Most of the time, long games have a lot of fluff to pad out the run time

for real. from Switch, to PS4 and PC I can't even keep up anymore. I'm also getting the free games every week from Epic and have built up a ton of games there. Still haven't touched my PS+ backlog either. And I got gamepass for PC and only touched Gears of War. Wtf.
I have PS2 games I still haven't played yet. LOL
heres some advice just pick it up ive learned a backlog will never be complete

Already played and finished it, i loved it, i've already said this on a few review comment sections but it's like if Okami blended with inFamous and it's so refreshing to see a game that tries something new and unique and it's such a charming game :)
I'd pick this game up for the art style alone.

I bought this game as it looked different and unique. I was really surprised at how much i enjoyed this game. Its a definite under the radar game but i hope people start to pick it up as it has a massive amount of charm and some truly magical moments.

I bought it last week mainly because it has an optional VR mode and I really like VR. With that said, while I have only played a certain amount of it (in VR and in normal mode), I think it's really good. This will definitely fly under the radar since it was featured in the first State of Play and most people either ignored it or scoffed at it. It's definitely worth playing, especially for only $30.
I just learned that the vr mode is separate and not in the full game, I was interested because of the vr, the question I have now, is the game worth $30 with the VR mode as an afterthought?
If this was a Nintendo game, it would be $60

@John Stroud That's true and this opinion comes to someone who owns some of their previous consoles.
The most biggest proof is their micro transactions system in their mobiles games being the worst one yet Mario Kart Tour.
This is one of those short sweet games that honestly has become one of my games of the year and what's funny is that I actually cried a little bit while playing it because for a long while now my artist side has been dormant. when I was really young I would draw a whole lot up until a few years ago and now I think this game has actually sparked my interest back into the skill
both this game and goose game really defy genre. i hope we start seeing more of these unique, short experiences coming out in the future
I played the game then started the game with all the abilities and it plays like a emerging paint canvas I enjoyed the game and wouldn't change anything about it Kudos to the creative minds I needed this during covid to calm me down and relax
Hopefully next year we will see more Sony and Xbox coverage like this. Great video.
I love the different approach to the gaming. Pretty cool. Aside from being too long until it gets to the good stuff, it's not enough to put me off in purchasing this gem. Glad you covered this. I read the review on it but seeing it up front in this manner makes me want to play it!

funny, I watched another guy review this game and he liked the beginning style of gameplay more than the action side but still appreciated the attempt of bringing something different to the game. I guess its a Preference on which side you like more but it's cool that you basically get 2 games in one. its strange that it takes so long to change but Its pretty neat I think and my 11 year old nephew LOVED it. good review man 👍

In Canada, or at least in Ontario, it’s $15 an hour..
But the tricky part is that the place where I live, it’s considerably more expensive..
For instance, if I want to buy a physical game, it’s literally about $100 per physical game..
But food is also more expensive in the specific place I’m in, which obviously I won’t name..
Concrete Genie and Ghost Giant should have a crossover. Change my mind. Since they both of heartbreaking and heartwarming moments.
Shifting mid game, to an other type of game is never a good idea

I recommend this to everyone who owns a PS4. I have had a smile on my face from the first moment this game started. It’s absolutely brilliant.

I got it for $20 on sale and loved it. It started off slow as most games do but once it got going it was awesome!
This game is a pure masterpiece, its going to be passed by many just because Death Stranding is on the horizon.
I've got 100% completion and took me 12h , the game is short if you just go straight away to the main story but there are collectables and they are great because the collectables gives you more tools to paint and there is a lot of cool places to paint nice things, that's the point of the game apart from the story to decorate the city and enjoy painting.
I think this game was ok at best. Maximum a 6/10.
Since it was free on PS-Plus this month, I downloaded it.
The drawing is more like occupational therapy for children. Sure, the graphics of the drawings look quite nice, but nothing more. Since it is always the same, rather simple, motifs, you have the feeling after an hour to have seen everything, even if you always get new motifs. At most, the winter-themed motifs still seemed a bit special.
The puzzles are very repetitive and every now and then the game requires you to get a genie to activate a power box that is relatively well hidden, or at least where it's not immediately clear what you have to do at the box. There the game stalls a bit, because it is not pointed out well enough.
The most exciting part for me was clearly the sewer level. There I felt some variety.
The fact that you actually have to fight towards the end didn't really fit and wasn't executed well. The fights are very simple and downright boring. In the last boss fight, you have to keep attacking at the right time with the different elemental attacks. That was the first time I noticed that you can actually die in the game. In any case, the fight was more of a nuisance than a challenge.
The story was okay to some extent. It was nice that the "bad kids" were given a backstory for their behavior, or at least tried to explain why they are so mean to Ash, but bullying can't be reduced to a bad childhood experience or explained by the fact that the parental home was problematic. That is an oversimplification.
All in all it was quite ok. However, I would not have bought this for $30. At most for 5 or 10.
i am gonna pick this one. it is kinda nice to play something that is not thousand hour long and the only thing to do is ginding.

Ever since I got my PS5 a couple years ago i've been collecting as many Playstation exclusives as possible! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this cute little gem! Good clean fun!

Never heard about this game before, coming here after the PS+ announcement.
I have a few games I want on PS4 but they're not big first party games. I just want Gravity Rush 2 and this game but I don't think they're worth buying a PS4 for ;-; I hope they come out on PC or Switch someday.

Its a beautiful looking game, I picked it up last week but only put maybe an hour or 2 into it so far because I am having a Zeldathon first.
5 to 6 hours is great for this kind of game
another game that uses the stop motion art style is Tearaway Unfolded and it turns out really good!
the game is running over all at 60FPS but the characters animations and any movable object in the game world is animated at 20FPS.
at first you would thought it's a performance problems but if you watched a lots of stop motion movies everything will make sense.

@mazrimalthor Nintendo doesn't own the patent to that style. Entitlement from Nintendo fans that think if it looks like a kids game it should be on Nintendo. I never see Sony fans randomly asking for first party Nintendo games. Even if it' "suits" the platform.

I disagree but I see the point. I don't see the point in asking for first party games. It's actually disrespect. This game is a very good game, i got it recently, played it, finished it and i feel like it makes ur creativity just come alive (with a few limits of course), it has a good theme to the game, and its overall fun in my opinion.
Nice video Jon(SW). I haven't picked up Concrete Genie yet, although it's been on my radar I'll probably pick it up today but the game looks super cool and sounds very interesting aswell plus I don't mind it being on the shorter side either.

Link yeah I feel the same way, but you’re talking more art style and not like graphics. I do prefer art style in Nintendo games but the graphics of the competition is better if that makes sense. (If you ask me I care more about art style but that’s just me)

Yet in most cases, they don’t make enough revenue..
Back in the PS3 era, it was really bad for Sony..
But now there doing better, which is good..

Gravity Rush Remastered, Gravity Rush 2, Tearaway Unfolded, GTA5 ( if you wanted ), Infamous Second Son, Infamous First light, Blue Estate, Little Big Planet 3 were all have gyro controls, there could be more but these are the ones I played and know that they have gyro controls.
Anas Bakhit Dreams is also another.
Guys, guys. I know there's games that use the gyro controls on PS4. It's just so under-advertised (as far as I see) that it seems like an event when a PS4 game has them. Also, some fanboys really don't like talking about motion/gyro controls.
Meh... This should be on the switch, this is better than most switch switch games this year.
