They didn’t usually last, but these age gap romances on TV shows made audiences totally cringe. While this may have been the intended reaction in a few cases, it’s clear that the show-runners thought a lot of these were perfectly normal. Yes I get it. I really do and whole heartedly agree. If the two involved are adults and are happy and content then of course, my and everybody else's nose should stay clear. Yes I'm well aware I could end up in a age gap relationship situation too but hopefully it will at least be with someone who's parents I am not life long close friends with. If so then I will not be shocked if the parent's dry heave at the thought too.

The only problem that I had with Monica and Richard was that Richard was Monica's father's friend. So he saw her grow up. I think that would be weird.
If you ask me, for a relationship to be cringy over the age difference, it must fall under one of these categories:
1. One of the participants is a minor.
2. Even if the younger one is technically barely adult, the older one is their teacher, mentor or parental figure.
3. The older one is so old they look ancient and deteriorated, while the younger one not even middle-aged.
Everything else is basically a ''love knows no age'' story.
Edward Reeves also family friend, like if you started dating your moms best friend. That used to babysit you or something.

My parents have a 25 year age difference (actually may be 26 but I've honestly forgotten) and it's crazy to me how people think it's disgusting to them. My mom didn't marry my dad because of money (trust me he wasn't rich) and they honestly love eachother and are one of the best couples I've ever seen. Of course I disagree if you are underage dating someone that is an adult, but as long as your a legal adult and are in love I find it perfectly okay. People are so quick to judge and give my parents dirty looks and are even rude to me as well anywhere we go. My mom and I are actually mistaken for sisters and my dad as our dad (but I just believe that's because she's beautiful and ages so nicely). Anyways, just don't be so quick to assume that it's all disgusting and for money. If they're legal and both genuinely in love, then let it be. I do agree with some of these on the list though that are actually very wrong.

I'm actually surprised that Once Upon A Time is not on the list. I mean you have atleast two couples with an age difference by 300 years. Hook & Emma and Rumple & Belle. Well Hook & Emma may look around the same age but Rumple and Belle are from that point around 20 or more years apart.
Regardless of storyline, Hook and Emma don't count since the actors are practially the same age.
Belle and Rumple have a pretty big age gap between them, but it's not nearly as bad as some of the ones of this list.

In my opinion age-gaps created by the story freezing the age-process for one or more characters is completely pointless for a list like this. It creates a completely different perspective. For example Peter Pan is technically older than Rumple by ~20y but if he was suddenly shown dating a woman played by someone 20y Rumple's actor's age, I'd find that creepy as hell.
I love older men and especially love ambiguous with power and are willing to do what it takes. With that being said, I wish I could play the part of Belle in OUAT.

I didn't really see that much wrong with Ezra and Aria: they didn't ACTUALLY do anything until it was legal and they'd already told Aria's parents about their relationship. Besides, Aria wasn't a sophomore, she was a junior/senior when they were dating. Either way, there was literally only 5 years between them which is quite normal. Still, it was wrong when he was her teacher - have you seen the show now? It's all sorts of messed up.

Alison was supposedly around 14 or 15 when she disappeared because one year later she was said to have been 16, and since the girls were all in the same grade , they had to have been around 8th or 9th grade. One year pasts , so that leaves 10th grade. He’s a pervert and I don’t understand how people can like them.

But having a very young person dating a very old person like a 17 year old and 56 year old, now that's wrong. 17 is very naive and easy to take advantage of. Not mature and lacks experience of people and the world. So that's why that age gap is wrong. After a certain age, around 25 years old being the youngest, it doesn't matter how large the gap is.

What about A Series of Unfortunate Events? I know Olaf and Violet were never a couple, but during the Bad Beginning he definitely hit on her. I know he was trying to get the Baudelaire fortune, but I feel like there were definitely some ulterior motives when he tried to marry her.
Brooklyn they don't go over it very much in the movie, but in the books-and hinted at in the movie- Olaf was going to kill all three of the orphans after the wedding. So there kind of couldn't be any ulterior motives given the fact that she was going to die right after they got married. Plus I wouldn't consider them a couple since there was no consent on Violet's part, Olaf was going to force her into the marriage.

They're, in my opinion, creepy if a crime is committed. Under-aged students in relationships with their teachers is wrong, but it can make for good story telling. All the others (aside from GoT one, which would also be illegal by modern day standards) are fine in my book.

It's not just the age. The teacher is in a position of power. It's an abuse of authority. Now, if one taught at one school and the student attended a different school, that's different. I think it's different if they were already dating before any promotions. This could also lead to favoritism or even special treatment. Students are there to learn from their teachers. For me, it's when the age difference is noticeable. When your maturity level is that much farther beyond that of your significant other, then it's weird. I tired dating a guy 5 years younger than myself and just couldn't do it. He was like a puppy. I needed a man, not a boy. I was curious to know what it would've been like being with a man 10+ years my senior, but I'm happily married now, so thank goodness I don't have to deal with dating anymore.
Allison Holly my husband is 10 years older then me and it works for us. I’m only 22 but where I am immature in knowledge he steps up and where he is immature emotionally (because of person trauma) I can step up. We also try to meet in the middle for almost everything as we do see the world differently. Also when we are together it doesn’t look like we have much of an age gap because he physically looks young and our personalities work great together.
On the other side of things I dated someone 2 years older than me and once someone a year younger then me and they made my feel terrible and unable to be a partner so I guess it’s really about personal experience and individuals
The problem with these teacher and student tv relationships is that it romanticizes these messed up situations; something you CAN'T do with a fanbase that's as impressionable as romance fans. It's like anything, if you watch it enough, wanting it enough, you'll start to look for ways to live it out.

I totally agree that having these teacher/student relationships on TV is dangerous. Like in Riverdale and PLL.. at least in Riverdale (haven't seen PLL) the relationship isn't really shown to be gross. it's just shown as something forbidden, but that they truly care about each other-but that never happens! Ever! This fully grown adult is always manipulating the younger, on purpose or not. it's not a true relationship. & making it forbidden kinda makes it more intriguing, which makes it more dangerous

I think you guys forgot a very big one. Tommen and Margaery from Game of Thrones. While their ages are never officially mentioned in the show, it is implied that Tommen is around 14 and Margaery is around 21 or 22. Combine that with the fact that there was around a 20 year age gap between the actors and this one is definitely on the creepy side.
It is set in a different time. You can't really compare it to today's standards. The standards of Game Of Thrones has it set to where, basically, if you can either get pregnant, or get someone else pregnant, you can get married. It's actually very historically accurate as that was how it was back in the old days for the real world. So I just can't view it as creepy as it is normal in that world.
And come on, its not nearly as bad as brother and sister relations. Go complain about that.
Never said it was worse than brother/sister relations but this video isn't "The worst incestuous relationships on television" the video is "The most uncomfortable age gaps in TV." I also fully admit that Game of Thrones is historically accurate with the idea of teenage marriage. What I don't like is the double standard between men and women. Why is Aria and Ezra creepy but not Tommen and Margaery. The age difference for the characters is about the same in each case. At least the actors who played Aria and Ezra were both legal adults in real life at the time, while the same is not true for Tommen and Margaery.
And if the decision is based on whether or not the fictional universe of the show would consider the relationship to be creepy, then Walder Frey should not be on the list. It is perfectly normal in Game of Thrones for very young women to marry very old men. Combined with the fact that we know such pairings to be common in our own history, you can say they are simply being historically accurate.
What I am getting at is that I am sick and tired of the unspoken belief that it is perfectly acceptable for a grown woman to bang a young boy so long as she is at or above a certain sexual attractiveness level; because after all he wants it right and he should consider himself lucky. I don't like it when people complain about group privilege and demand such absolute equality be enforced that we have to suppress the natural talents of the gifted, but then they don't take two seconds to try and address privileges that other groups have in our society.

For the record if I were a teenage boy again, and I had a woman that looked like Natalie Dormer having sex with me, I wouldn't complain either. I don't really have a problem with what imaginary characters do with each other, I just like pointing out the unconscious bias and institutional misandry that some RUclips channels have. I think they should undergo some diversity awareness and unconscious bias training and start to recognize and apologize for their own prejudices that they have against the young boys who are victims of sexual assault and rape by older women. Maybe if they stopped victim blaming, we could actually fix this problem.

Shows in which one of the people involved in the relationship stopped aging don't count because ... well, it's cheating. It also doesn't feel weird, because they look the same age. Biologically, Angel stopped aging at 26 so he will forever maintain the physique and mindset of a 26 year old.

A large age gap isn't 'creepy' unless one side is under age. Age is no barrier to happy life together. My mother was 26 and my father 56 when they married and they had a perfect marriage until the day he died. You've got a horrible mix there - abusive relationships being treated the same as consensual and happy relationships. These are not the same thing. The Erzia relationship isn't even that bad in my opinion, Aria was 17 and Ezra was 23/24. Even though Ezra 'targeted' Aria because of the book he was writing, his relationship with her became very much real and they did almost anything to protect each other. There are two things that were wrong about that relationship vs 200 good things.

I never thought of Abraham's and Rosita's relationship as weird. And "noticing their age difference" because he was straight-forward when breaking up and she wanted to know the reason has really _nothing_ to do with age. Who wouldn't want to know why regardless of age? As long as the younger part is an actual adult and the older part isn't just walking ashes, I don't mind any age differences in shows.

For people commenting about vampires and saying "she was 16 and he was was 100+ years old", that's different. The person who turned into a vampire, usually turned when they were around 16 or when they were young so technically they're still that age. And they're usually close to age irl so I don't see the problem.
There can also be a large age gap between the actors even if the characters are about the same age. On Party of Five the characters Bailey and Sarah were only a year apart. However, Jennifer Love Hewitt was 16 when she started on the show. Scott Wolf was 27.
