    Two things:
    1. Check all sealing surface always. It's easy to miss stuck stuff if you only look at the filter.
    2. It's enough to just use hand power to put it back. From the manual "tighten securely by hand. Do not use a filter wrench."
    I may be a bit extra careful because i used to be a motorman working on bigger boat engines mainly wärtsilä 46 and bigger.
    My personal opinion is that the service manuals of all motors is crucial for all engine repairs.
    Nice short instruction. You got my subscribe.

    Good instruction. Did this a few days ago before I saw this. No need to fill with gas. A good fuel pump will fill it in seconds.

      Yeah, I imagine it wouldn't typically cause too much problems. It does say to fill with gas to avoid taking in any air, which may cause the engine to sputter momentarily.

    Thanks for making the video. Took the one off my 5.7 Volvo Penta yesterday and just bought new one at NAPA. Mine was difficult to un-thread too. Plan on installing now.

      No problem! Going to be recording some more maintenance videos as soon as I get to it this fall before winterizing.

    Do you have to do something to release the pressure first?

    • @Jacob190000
      @Jacob190000  3 года назад +2

      No, there is no pressure between the tank and this separator, because the fuel pump is behind the separator.

    This is a fuel filter right? My boat dies ever time I try to start but soon as I prime the carb it starts for 5-10 secs but then dies ? Any answer to my problem

      It definitely wouldn't hurt to swap this out. There's also potentially a clog in your fuel line, not letting enough get to your engine. I would pull the fuel line hose at the same time you swap the fuel filter out to make sure there's nothing in there. You may also want to siphon the rest of your fuel out of the tank as it may be contaminated with debris of some type.

    What year did they start putting those In?

    • @Jacob190000
      @Jacob190000  3 года назад

      I am not entirely sure actually. I have seen older Mercruisers without them. Perhaps they started adding them mid 90's or so. I have also read that the 3.0 engines may not have come with one, only 4.3 and larger.

    I hear u have to prime it or if not I will hurt the fuel pump..

    • @Jacob190000
      @Jacob190000  4 года назад +1

      Yes you have to fill the new filter up with fuel as I did in the video. I have seen others do it without but did not want to risk that.
