I remember seeing Lag Wagon fir the Trashed and Hoss tour and on the Hoss tour they opened with this song and it just set the whole night up for a crazy good concert. My brother based pretty much all his drumming style on Derrick because he was so good. We both play drums and he and i both used/use a Tama Iron Cobra with a Slug beater because if Derrick. We got a chance to hang out with him on the Hoss tour and he showed us his technique on how he played so fast and what kind of gear he used.
You are a lucky lucky dude, that moment in time pure gold and irreplaceable. Derrick was an unbelievable drummer... Resolve (the album) is a brilliant shrine to his memory.
I got a chance to see a lot of these old Fat and Epitaph bands at their prime.Down By Law, Ten Foot Pole with Scott,Good Riddance, Tilt,Snuff,Rancid,NOFX,Face To Face,No Use For A Name (Daily Grind& Leche Con Carne Tours, also Rory was super cool)Swingin Utters,22 Jacks,Propagandhi(also opened up for them),The Bollweevils(opened up for them also) and a bunch more that I can't remember and then there are a bunch of pop punk bands that my band either opened up for or I just saw live. Those were the day's and the day's of inexpensive everything !
Frank Dinero he used an okd Ludwig i believe a 24 in kick and then power toms like a 13x13. I remember him having Zildjian K hi hats if I'm not mistaken and other K cymbals. He told us he was a jazz guy and listened to a lot of jazz music and for us it was weird because we kept asking "hey do you listen to these bands he was like" no i listen to a lot of jazz". Back then my brain couldn't comprehend it but with in the last 10 yrs I've seen a lot of jazz drumming videos and it all makes sense now because those old men are just as technical if not more than Derrick was. Oh yeah he wore blue Authentic Vans!
I saw and toured with Lagwagon in the early to mid 90’s I knew Derrick Plourde saw him play many times. I was a roadie for PW and did the first 7 years of Warped Tour good job don’t stop playing!!! 👊
DUDE YOU PLAY DRUMS FOR LOCAL RESIDENT FAILURE?!?!?!? A breath of stale air has been in heavy rotation since I got it! yet another awesome band from Australia I won't get to see in the states :(
Exactly man! RKL is one of my favorite bands ever! He is nailing these songs just as good as Derrick would have... That Trashed tour was insane! Everything was easily 4 times as fast as the record. Hahaha. Good times...
I love Derick Plourde´s drumming. Your work is easily the best i have heard that captures the punktones (feeling in his drumming. Keep it up! You sound great .
Man, Im 37, I saw the "Trashed" tour in 9(4)? I am a lefty guitarist and bassist, I don't usually watch these drum vids, man, you are too sick.... there aren't many drummers willing to stick their necks out on you tube.... bravo... anyone that thinks ill of you is a hater, and I already can tell that you brush them off... studio drum recordings for fast-punk bands like LW and RKL , obviously for the album recording there are TONS of takes, some melded into each other.... you are badass; nuffsaid
That dear sir, is some good old top notch drumming. This is undoubtly one of the most terrific punk rock drum covers i've seen on youtube, my hat is off to you! AWESOME WORK!!!
that is absolutely insane. I can currently play Coffee and Ciggarettes and other Lagwagon songs perfectly, but im still working up to this one. I cant even get past the intro.
Amazing! Derrick is still my fav punk drummer and I love to see how his songs are played. I'd love to see a "Cog in the machine" Plourde version tho :) I just think he would have loved to play that song
congrats man! ...... this song has an intro impossible .... along with "Move the car," are the most difficult album hoss! I loved the sound of your snare, (dry). excellent video ..... and a great cover. Brazilian greetings
No one will ever get this as spot on as Mr. Derrick Plourde (RIP) did, he was a fucking legend. BUT. Great job Kye! I would like to see ANYONE do a better job than this. How about Bye For Now next?? And to everyone wondering if Dave Raun could play this live.. I saw Lagwagon play it back in 06 at the Gaelic Club (RIP) for the Resolve tour and he fucking nailed it. I believe it was on the setlist for the whole tour and my mate in Germany even saw them (same year) over there and they played it :)
his room looks like it could have come right out of the 90's, I used to go to all the shows and grab those posters and put them up in my room. Try some Pulley from "Esteem Driven Engine" like "No Defense"
Every few months I come back and watch this again
R.I.P. Derrick. Best modern punk drummer I ever saw.
4 Shure
He was definitely one of the best. Coolest part about him was how chill he was. Such a nice guy, that we all miss a lot.
They played Riffle with Jesse back and Big Chris too in Victoriaville, Qc this weekend. Still fresh, definitely the hardest track on Hoss
What's the bet no one ever puts up a better Rifle cover. This is a truly commendable effort. Doing Plourde proud....

What else do you remember from the kind of gear he used?

Wow. thank you for the prompt response. I too am a big fan of DP. What did he say about how he plays so fast?
This song is hard to play without shortcuts or taking the attack out of it. This is the best i have seen. Kudos.
Damn, covering Derrick Plourde, the Neil Peart of punk. It’s a feat in itself. You can be proud.
holy fucking shit... I don't think I took a breath the entire song. WELL DONE

A breath of stale air has been in heavy rotation since I got it! yet another awesome band from Australia I won't get to see in the states :(
Derick was one of the most talented punk drummers out there. He truly brought an entirely different style to punk
Exactly man! RKL is one of my favorite bands ever! He is nailing these songs just as good as Derrick would have... That Trashed tour was insane! Everything was easily 4 times as fast as the record. Hahaha. Good times...

Dude, I almost broke a sweat from watching you play that haha. So much going on.

old school is alive with you. perfect!!
I feel like any legitimate friend of Derrick would want his music to continue and be enjoyed by everyone and in all forms. He'd be proud of Kye.
Nice job man! I enjoyed watching this very much!
