- If I were to go back to the day I had to decide whether I’d join or not, I would still choose the decision I made.

I’m Christine, a second-year engineering student from Saint Louis University and a DOST scholar.👷♀️
After the midterms, my grades became a bit shaky. I saw the post about this camp multiple times, but I didn’t pay attention to it. They repost it, again and again, saying they need more participants. So I thought maybe it’s fate, maybe it’s a sign to join. While lying on my bed, getting ready to sleep, I searched DOST Scholar Leadership Camp on RUclips and found a video. That video summarizes the SLC that happened last year and it was a big factor as to why I finally decided to join.
Before I answer the Google Form, I asked all of my professors, the university coordinator, and the dean of OSA if attending an event organized by DOST is considered excuse and if I’ll be able to take all of my missed activities and quizzes.
I had to confirm that first since I can’t afford to get a zero for any activities I’d miss if I joined the camp. I might fail a subject if that happens.

So nung sabi na sinusupport ng school yung mga ganitong activities, nagregister na ako.
I know that after the event, I have to study a lot, the lessons I’ve missed. I have 11 subjects this sem, and after the event, I only have one week and it will be finals week.
Another worry was that I’d be going alone. As an introvert, I won’t approach a stranger first unless I don’t have a choice and it’s an emergency. I was afraid na baka maging loner ako doon and I’d end up wanting to go home na lang.
But now that I’m writing this after joining the camp, I’m glad that my worries weren’t bigger than the desire I have to grow as a person. If I hadn’t joined, I wouldn’t have met the most amazing people ever, especially my teammates. I wouldn’t trade the memories and lessons I acquired from this event.
I learned more about myself. My teammates made me feel that I’m trustworthy and capable. This experience was evidence that the people that you surround yourself matter.
I was the busiest and most exhausted person after the event from cramming and trying to catch up, but the thought na “Hindi sana ako ganito kapagod kung ‘di ako sumama” never crossed my mind because (super naempahasized ko na) it was all worth it.
Anyway, this became a novel pero to all DOST scholars out there, you should join this camp. It is a yearly event for every region so make sure to follow the facebook pages of the DOST in your region to be updated.
