When I got this game and played it, I had no knowledge on how the previous Star Fox games played because I never played a Star fox game before it. Not only that, but at the time when I first played it, I had not played any Legend of Zelda games, so I could not call it a Zelda clone, because I did not know how Zelda played. So with no knowledge of how Zelda games played, and no knowledge of how Star Fox played, I entered the Adventure with no fan-dom expectation, no comparisons, and only the help of a Guide book and a Turbo button gamecube controller. With that mindset, I had an unbiased opinion. From what I played, I found it an enjoyable game, for several reasons. First of all, the story. I found it a joy to play through. It is not the most awesome story there is, but it is enjoyable. I thought it was also clever how Rareware made their own language for the dinosaurs. It was a nice nice touch. Second the controls. Even without looking at the Guide, I found the controls--even the arwing flying sections--easy to pick up and play. Not once was I ever confused on the controls, and even the camera was good. Three, the Graphics: OH MY GOD this game looks incredible, and this is on the GameCube. Everything is polished. From the breath taking landscapes, to the level of detail on Fox's fur. Its so beautiful. The fourth thing is the Music. Some of this game's music is a joy to listen to. From the calm of the sounds of night, to the beautiful music of Cape Claw. There is even a music test that can be unlocked--by finding the right token--to hear all the music, as well as some that did not find a way into the adventure, but are available non the less. The final thing I like about this game is the gameplay. It introduced me to the Adventure genre, and did a great job at it. I personally think it helped build my experience in that genre so that by the time I finally got into Zelda and played the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, I already knew the manics of an action/adventure game, with out ever playing a Zelda game. Star Fox Adventure trained my exploration skills, and my puzzle skills, even though I needed a Guide for it. As a stand alone game it is a very good game. The only places I had trouble on was on the Test of Fear, and the final boss. Interesting to note, even with the Guide, the final boss was still a complete surprise to me. This was because the Guide did not even mention the final boss, thus it found a way to avoid spoilers for me. I felt, stupid when I found out online that all I needed to do, that I did not do before, was to continuously do barrel rolls--actually avian rolls. Then again I never heard the now meme phase "DO A BARREL ROLL" when I played it, but non-the-less, I was happy with the ending. Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to get my thoughts and views on this game. It is a good game, that can train people in adventure games, with Fox McCloud as a character just to attract your attention to play it.
Nice review btw. It's good to see the game still holding up well. I enjoyed playing it back then but it felt a bit rushed. I reckon this time it's going to be
Thanks for complimenting my review 8). You should finish this game when you have the chance. It's a great game. And yeah we don't see too many games like this anymore.
My brother owned Star Fox Adventures. I played it a little, I got stuck and looking up a walkthrough didn't hit me. It's the only Star Fox game I played.
Nintendo Reviewer Apparently the conversion from Dinosaur Planet to Star Fox: Adventure, as well as its conversion from N64 game to GameCube game, was pretty rough, which caused a large chunks of the game to be cut. The original concept behind Dinosaur Planet on the N64 is really interesting, it seemed like Rare were attempting to rival The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time... it was also supposed to be Rare's last N64 game, but delays and the sooner than expected decline of the N64 meant it had to be moved to the GameCube. I've also heard this game soured Rare's and Nintendo's relationship, as some Rare staff didn't like that their original concept was being made into a Star Fox spin-off. Personally this is perhaps the only Rare game I dislike, and like a lot of Rare games, such as Jetpac, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tootie, Donkey Kong 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and even Sea of Thieves. That said, I might retry it, perhaps I was a little too harsh on the game.
I like this game, I know the game is not perfect but it doesn't hurt. I always felt like it had zelda elements as well(though landscapes aren't as open.) Still this game is a hidden gem. Ive had many friends come to my house and they ask, "hey what's that Star Fox game?" I tell them about it and I lend it to them. When I get it back they all say,"it suprised me." Overall I'll give it a 7/10
I have just beat Star Fox Adventures for the Nintendo GameCube & after playing through the whole game I've had so much fun. I got all four Spellstones to put the pieces of the planet back together and all the Krozoa Spirits to free Krystal. I love the game's graphics even though this is the only GameCube game Rare developed you can tell that they really pushed the GameCube's hardware to it's limits & for a Gamecube game from 2002 these graphics still hold up in my opinion. What notably makes the graphics stand out is the fur on Fox & Krystal. Fox's sidekick Tricky I thought was cute. I thought the puzzles were fun to solve, the exploration was amazing, the bosses were cool, and the Arwing levels were also fun. The best part about the game in my opinion was the music composed by David Wise and the Jet bike levels. There were two levels I thought were very hard but I still managed to progress. It may not be as good as Star Fox 64 but this was still a very fun game. Considering that this was Rare's final game developed on a Nintendo console in my opinion I thought they ended their partnership with Nintendo on a high note. Now I just need to play Dinosaur Planet for N64, the reproduction of the original game. I already downloaded the rom and I'm interested to check out what's different compared to Star Fox Adventures.
This game was my first Star Fox game I've ever played and I LOVED IT! But I can see its flaws: mediocre Arwing levels, cheesy voices and dino language. But all the rest: graphics, music, gameplay and story is very good. Not my fav game on the gamecube, but I definitely recommend it.
You need to play Star Fox 64 then. Best of the franchise. (You can try 3DS they did I great job on it. That is why it still is $39.99) The fact people have to say don't think it as a Star Fox game should tell you that is was a very terrible game for the Star Fox franchise. A complete ripoff of Zelda.
I think Dinosaur Planey would've faired better if Fox McCloud or the StarFox crew only made Cameo appearances towards the final part of the game. I think it would've fair better as a Sub-series or Spin-off Game to StarFox :)
I can understand praising the music, but THE SOUND EFFECTS?? They are stock, every one of them. Also, I wonder what you would say if you, say, read the uncovered plot of the original Dinosaur Planet.
easily one of the most underrated games of all time. I can mention plenty upon plenty of games for the ps3 and xbox 360 that looked inferior to this game and imagine the hardware specs. gap
extremely sad. I beat this game four times. in progrssive scam and wide screen it is a surreal experience. still cannot believe how much Nintendo fucked Rare. So much that they ran at Mircosoft like a rescued pig from a slaughtehouse to a vegan sanctuary
I feel this game would have done just fine without the starfox name in it. It would be cool to see this game get remade but as Dinosaur Planet with Krystal obviously playing a much bigger role in this game.
I was a hater of this game because when it came out I had already played star fox 64 and I still love that game so I never got star fox adventures. But now that I know how good this game is and with the lack of this kind of games I regret SOOO MUCH that I never got the chance to played it because now I can't find any copy of this game :(
This is a great game! Love it! Much better than the Star Fox shooter games! I'm looking forward for a sequel of this game! And people should stop bitching about that this game isn't great because it went a different route this time. Mario did have Mario Kart game. That's not Mario style either and yet an other different game than the adventure games of Mario. Stupid dumb people are out there that's for sure!
My complaints about this game has nothing to do with the fact that it's different from the traditional Star Fox games. I just think it's a bit boring. I thought that the story was weak and the characters (and collectibles) were boring. I never wanted to play it again. Nothing excited me about this game. The only thing I liked was the graphics.
You know how this game could have been better? Throw Banjo-n-Kazooie in the planet (or rather area) or maybe even Conker and keep it RARE! Don't go and screw the Star Fox franchise with this tittle... I mean, is probably because of this game, Comand and maybe Assault (wich was an excellent Star Fox installment imo) are the reasons this franchise set itself to die and be represented one more time with Zero, that offers no excitement or hype atm...there it goes one of my beloved games of my childhood (EDIT: alongside F-Zero and Metroid)
SPOILER ALERT!!. . . . . . . . . . God general Scales Boss was DISSAPOINTING, I was thinking through the entire game how cool was going to be his encounter but WHAT DA F**K.

I was the same, believe it or not.
EXTREMELY underrated! This game is amazing! I rate it a 4.5/5
3:43 loved your voice impressions haha
Man, this brings back memories. I was always impressed on how they got Fox's fur on the close up shots.

the story is bad and you won't fight againt general scale
more enjoyable for being ready now instead of back then if that makes sense. Such games don't get made as often nowadays, especially on consoles.
I never got to finish it even though I spent quite a few hours on it. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Soon during Summer perhaps :P
2:13 - 2:18 You hit the nail right on the head.
sadly this is the best star fox game I played.
nintendo revieweer thanks to you i am now into star fox

It’s the last Nintendo game by rare and a good one to end it

You know what. My only problem with this game was the made up dinosaur language.
That.. that's about it. Everything else was fine by me.

Ok this is my best game ever I love like everything about it but voice acting??? No some voice acting was terrible
Star Fox Adventures is one of my favorite Zelda games.
Your welcome
